  • great bang for your buck !
I did my research and absolutely do not regret purchase. the TM160 not only met, but exceeded my expectations. Here are my findings: owner's manual simple to read and easy to master the simple controls of this unit. The TM160 has a very clear picture, clearer than some more expensive units I've operated. The color options, zoom, menu buttons are easily accessible. I was able to scan an area target (house, car, large target) and clearly identify at 150+ yds. I was able to clearly scan a point target (person\animal) clearly i.d. at 50-75 yds. I was able to Identify deer at 150+ yds (see the spot on display and identify as deer based on movement) This is, in my opinion, an excellent and underrated entry level thermal scope that is well worth the money. ... show more

  • Works great.
This is a good entry level thermal scope. I've used it over the winter to spot rabbits. On a sunny day with snow on the ground the contrast is very high and it's not useful. There are plenty of options to tune it, but places on the ground that are heated by the sun are as hot as any living thing, so it looks really splotchy. Resolution is low. If you're rich buy one with higher resolution, but this does fine. You can see the moon through it and distant mountain ranges... basically it has an unlimited range. The only issue is the low resolution. It makes it hard to pick out anything at any range. ... show more

  • Read the reviews and factor your common hunting ground
So far, this device has helped to find several deer in the dark, post discharge of rifle/bow, and that made it feel like money well spent. Note, if you are in a dense area, don't expect too much unless you are very close to your target. My purchase was to help with tracking, and there is a little bit of a learning curve. Rocks hold heat from the day, so you have to be patient and check each bright spot. A downed deer's presence in the viewfinder will be very low, and easily confused with anything that is holding heat from the day time. Got dense foliage to navigate? Don't expect clear findings. However, if your blood trail is faint or non-existent, this is definitely a tool to have in the bag, but clearly make use of the expected body heat before your harvest cools down. The four star rating is because when it works, I want to give it 5, but when I'm faced with dense cover, then I want to give it a 3. The expectations of the user should be well thought through, and even though the technology is common, you do get what you pay for. I will charge this before any afternoon hunt to ensure the battery life is good. This is my first of this type, so overall I'm very happy to have it. If your budget permits more, go for the higher end for that extra power. But this WILL lessen your likelihood of losing your deer, and that is an encouraging thing. ... show more

  • Awesome Entry Level Thermal
This is a great buy! It has Three different zoom levels, but find the one time zone is the best and clearest. I bought this for hog hunting and quick location identification and found that it may have a use in heat recognition in home use such as differences in window issues or electrical concerns. This is the only monocular thermal I have ever used so I can not compare it to others. I have used it on several occasions and have found it to be very reliable. I was able to detect a heat signature from ~250 yards away on a power transformer. My Shepard is detectable beyond 150yds but identifiable at much less. My plans are to use this device as a detector and then utilize my Wraithe to zoom in. Great buy with AGN’s 3 year warranty. Can’t go wrong. ... show more

  • OK at price point but spend the extra for a 2x objective lens with focus.
Same core product as several other thermal monoculars in the market. However, sensor is paired with a 1x lens, which cannot be focused on this model. These products have 3 magnification settings: 1x, 2x and 4x the base focal length of the objective lens (all but 1x are digital). At 4x on the 160 sensor, image is not very useful. AGM and ATN make models with 2x objective lenses which can be focused...with a 160 sensor, you will want the 2x lens and the focus capability. Price is higher, but still an entry level point. None of these are high resolution, but they are useful for scanning and identifying game with a light(er) weight optic without wearing your arms out. ... show more

  • It's a reasonably well made 160 core thermal.
You have to set your expectations for this device. It is not night vision, it is not an outstanding thermal. Even in the perfect conditions, you will not get a good visual of the general environment. However, what it will do, however, is show you "things of interest". You might not be able to identify a rabbit from a groundhog at 30 yards, but you will see the presence of something. If you have night vision and can't/dont want to spend the money on a good thermal, this is a great device to consider. Even at distance, it will reveal things you would not otherwise be able to see. I won't go on night walks without it now. If you can save up another 200-300 dollars, a 256 core would be a great jump forward. ... show more

  • Battery does not hold a charge
I’ve had this item for about a year and a half I have used it about five times since I’ve got it. The battery held a good charge for about a month after that I cannot get it to charge every time I turn it on after trying to charge it it will cut on for a couple of seconds, and then say it is turning off because of low battery. Which is very upsetting because I love the product otherwise, but I cannot use it without the battery working correctly. I wish there were something they can do about this. I have to leave a low rating mark because the quality of the item but the quality of the battery and without the the battery this item is useless ... show more

  • It works fine
There are some mystery parts of the manual, which you get online, but the parts that are easy to understand let you use the imager immediately. When setting it up, I was surprised to see that the corners of my living room are quite a bit hotter than the parts where I have 5.5 in of foam insulation. I found that It was easier to recognize what you are looking at if you do not use the color imaging. I can see and recognize anything alive that is bigger than a rat and is within 200 ft very easily, which is about as far as I am concerned with way out here in the sticks. Have no idea how it behaves in the city, but I am guessing it will do real well within the average yard when set up correctly. It definitely cannot see anything through a window but did fairly well through the screen. I am pleased with my purchase. ... show more
