  • Extremely fast
Lighted keyboard is helpful. 17" screen super nice.

  • half the keys on the keyboard did not respond when typing
I called tech support, and worked with a nice person to remedy the situation. Unfortunately, we could not fix the problem, even after a reset. I was given a shipping label to send it in for repair, but I would rather replace it with a different model. Btw, the keyboard is backlit with a blood red light that makes it difficult to see the letters on the keys. ... show more

  • Great computer

  • Not good
Some of the keys on this computer did not work when I got it.

  • First impression. (updated)
I came to look at the specs for this to look for more ram. I bought this laptop from Best BUy because they gave me a credit cared. I noticed that there was only 1 review. For under 1000 this is a solid system. 1. Dedicated GTX 1650 Video. 2. I5 quad core. 3. 17.3 Brilliant Screen. I only have a few hours into this. The boot time is nearly instant. The set up was amazingly easy. Most of that is because windows forwarded all my setting from my desktop including my background and cortana is coming along. I played Conan Exiles and Atlas Online and Minecraft at high setting. I Then wasted The Mandalorian. I'm happy with every aspect of this so far. If I have any issue i'll update. After a few days of use. A few thoughts. Pros( see above) Cons 1. They pushed the keyboard as tight as they could so that didn't have to use a larger case. It took a day or so to notice that the zero on the number pad that is normally double sized is a single key because they pushed over the arrow keys. That said the keyboard is a bit odd. 2. There is not Hard power key. It is a keyboard key. They offset this by making it so you have to hold the button in for 5 seconds and get a pop up. in addition 3. Wake on sleep is bugged and locks the system up. (turn off power saving options and manually power this system up and down. (this is the largest drawback because you need the laptop to save power when it can when on battery. Conclusion,. There is a reason this system is down to 750 dollars when it comes with SSD, gtx 1050 and 8 gig ram and a 17.3 inch display. If you can stay on power and handle the down sides it seems to be a solid system as far as performance. Zero issues playing games on it. It is very fast loading. ... show more

  • Better than I expected.
I bought one of these at Best Buy in January. The CPU is quite serviceable if a bit slower than it should be. But, I've experienced no serious lagging. The RAM is a single 8GB DDR4 2400Mhz SO-DIMM and there is a second SO-DIMM slot for expansion. It supposedly can handle 32GB, but when I tried that (2x16GB G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 2400MHz) it would not boot up. When I removed one of the 16GB and replaced the factory-supplied 8GB, it works fine. The second stick DOES work, because I installed in a low-end Lenovo and it works just fine, oddly enough. Don't ask me what that is. I have no idea. As for the system drive, it is a Kingston (mine is, anyway) 512GB NVMe M.2 2280 SSD. There is a second M.2 NVMe slot (M.2 2280 max size), and in my case, I installed a Sabrent Rocket Q 2TB I got from Newegg (Amazon ASIN is B0829DZH2W). Works quite nicely. Additionally, it has a standard 2.5" slot for a 7mm (thickness) HDD or SSD. I filled it originally with a SanDisk Ultra 2TB SSD I got from Best Buy for $180 (Amazon ASIN: B071KGS72Q), but I recently upgraded to a Western Digital Blue 4TB I got from Amazon (ASIN: B07QV3XGCP) for $371 during Prime Day. So far, I have had no problems whatsoever with any internal storage. The nVidia GTX 1650 4GB is ONLY functional when using an external monitor via the HDMI port on the upper left side. Now, I have used it with a Samsung UE590 28" 4K monitor (I bought mine at Best Buy, but this is the ASIN: B00YD3DBOC), but it only does 3840x2160@30Hz, so it will NOT give true 4K response. I have used a Sceptre E248W-19203R 24" 75Hz monitor I got from Amazon (ASIN: B0773ZY26F) and it works quite nicely. Currently, I am using a Samsung 27" SR35-class monitor I got from Sam's Club (ASIN: B08CGQRNFX) and it also works very nicely. The integral display is also fairly nice and has very good sharpness and clarity for a 17"-class display and does 1920x1080@60Hz quite nicely. Now, I should point out that this does NOT provide proper dual-monitor capability. If it does, I have yet to figure out HOW to make that work. The nVidia just mirrors what the Intel 630 displays on the integral display. It has a USB-C port located below the HDMI port, but above the upper USB 3.0 port (of which this has 2). It has a gigabit LAN port located above the HDMI port. On the right-hand side is the power plug and below that is a USB 2.0 port. I have connected a passive splitter and connected a Logitech G105 keyboard and the dongle for a Logitech M310 cordless mouse and it works quite nicely. I have had no issues with the built-in keyboard, but, since I use so many external inputs and monitor, I rarely need to raise the lid. As a point of note, I have used this laptop with an external 7-port USB 3.0 powered hub and connected 5 external HDDs (all WD of 8TB, 10TBx2 and 12TBx3, at the same time, swapping a 10TB with a 12TB later on) and a scanner (CanoScan LiDE 120) with ZERO problems. I was even able to use the laptop as a PLEX server for my video files on my network. Now, for those it might interest, I have used two different external optical disc burners. The first is a Rioddas DVD DL burner (Amazon used to sell it, but the page is gone) that did well enough, but I upgraded to a Pioneer BDR-XD05B (ASIN: B0754PKNFK) Blu-ray burner. The Blu-ray burner has worked perfectly every time I have used it. I run Nero burning software which works great. The OS is Windows 10 Home 64-bit. Unlike some laptops, this computer is NOT locked into S-mode out-of-the-box, so you do not need to go through the uncoupling process. It CAN be upgraded to Pro, but that's on you to deal with. You can get an upgrade from the Windows Store for about $100. I have run some customization software, such as Stardock's CursorFX with no problems. There IS the usual bloatware and junkware, like nearly ALL retail off-the-shelf computers, but no spyware that I have found (unlike HP and Dell trash...) so that's good. I run Panda IS, and it has found nothing bad, so far. Is this REALLY a good gaming laptop? Probably, if you're not trying to run something really intense like Horizon Zero Dawn, but for most casual, to mid-level gamers, this should work nicely, but it is recommended to upgrade the RAM and add additional storage, preferably an internal SSD, or 2. ... show more
