Amazing laptop

I had an Acer laptop purchased in 2012, and it had intel dual-cores system. It was probably too old because my old Acer laptop took at least 3 minutes to start setting up desktop and to complete whole process. Anyway, let me share my thoughts about this one--Acer Aspire 5. It's a completely different and amazing laptop I've ever had! 1) Price. The new Acer Aspire 5 I purchased has an affordable price, compared to the other sellers on Amazon, who offer the Acer Aspire 3 that costs more than this one. I don't understand why. This Acer Aspire 5 only costs around 516 dollars before tax when I placed my order. Price is reasonable and affordable. 2) System. I love this laptop so much because it has AMD Ryzen 5 quad-cores processor. This is amazing and better than the old Acer I bought in 2012 (intel processor). First, the Aspire 5 completes opening process within 30 seconds. Second, I can have multiple tasks running at the same time. It processes my tasks very efficiently. However, there is one aspect I don't really like, which is function key F1-F12. This issue happens when you are playing games. However, this issue is not related to the laptop itself. I just google how to enter BIOS setting to change function key setting. REMEMBER: the new window 10 system doesn't allow you to enter BIOS setting by hitting F2 repeatedly. Just google how or go to Acer official website for further information. Also, one aspect that annoys me is related to window 10 system set-up. OMG! It takes forever to ask me personal information and to give Microsoft permission to track your computer, to help you get updated information, etc... Microsoft also needs you to purchase Office software, lol. Right now I don't have any issues so far; even if there might be some confusions, I have Acer backed up. Unexpectedly great.

I bought this thing because I had gotten to the point where charging my old one was just becoming a hassle. I ... I'll spare you the details of the old one. I needed a new one, so I looked at what Google said the best computers under $600 were. I saw the rankings, looked around to see, decided on this one after comparing a few things, and I only have one gripe; I have to relearn the keyboard because there's an entire number pad to the right that wasn't on my old one, and it makes me have to relearn my station a little every time I go to place my fingers on the keyboard. Obviously this is nothing in the scheme of things, and doesn't even really count as a gripe. The computer itself... fast. SO fast, especially compared to my last one. I used to have this routine where I would turn the computer on in the morning so I could start the day (homework and all that), then go to the coffee maker, get that going, come back, hopefully it would be ready for me to log in, log in if it is, go back, get the laundry going, grab my cup of coffee and sit down and only have to wait another minute or two for the computer to finish starting up. With this one... I click the button and have no time to lift a cheek off the couch before it wants my password. I type it in, and it's booted and ready before I can take a sip of my coffee. I'm legitimately amazed at how good the picture quality is, how fast it is in general, and how very little time is spent waiting on it to process my typically-simple orders. Even the intense work is done in no time. I keep music playing, I do tons of graphic work, I have videos and classes and all kinds of stuff, and this thing handles it all like a champ. 10/10, would buy again in a heart beat. ... show more

Best Laptop for Under $1,000

I have been doing IT work for almost 10 years and if anyone asks for a laptop recommendation I send them a link to this laptop. It is great for general laptop use, not tested for intensive gaming or computation, but based on the processor and graphics card, it would do basic gaming and small render type work just fine. Battery life is great, snappiness is impressive, and sleekness is inspirational. Only complaint is the speaker loudness and quality, but my $2,000 laptop also has this flaw. For anyone buying a laptop under $1,000, this is the best choice. Depending on the brand and specific laptop, you may be better off with this one than other $1,500 options, even. My grandpa uses it for general tasks, a friend’s kid uses it for school, my father in law uses these in his medical office, and other countless friends and acquaintances/customers have used it. All have been thoroughly impressed, especially for the price point. Anyone looking to spend only $400 or $500 should consider spending a tad extra to get this one, since it offers so much more and is much better prepared for future needs. This is all referring to the Ryzen 5 3500U, Vega 8, 8 GB RAM option. Only downside is speaker, and everything else is amazing. Buy it ;) ... show more

An easy upgrade makes it much better

I bought this computer as a family computer to replace an aging desktop. The desktop had a Gen 4 Intel Core I7, and a non-SSD hard drive. This computer is sooo much faster! It boots up super fast and everything is super peppy and responsive. However with lots of people using it and leaving software and browser tabs open, it quickly runs out of RAM. 2 of the 8 gigs of RAM are reserved for the video card, this can't be changed. Once the RAM starts to get full, it gets very sluggish. Like it would take a half second from when I typed a character until it showed up on the screen. Sometimes I could type multiple words without any visual response and then they would all show up at once. It turns out this version of the computer comes with a single 8-gig stick of RAM. I opened up the back (there are tutorials on YouTube, it just takes a phillips screwdriver and a guitar pick or credit card) and took a picture of the RAM stick, and then bought an identical stick for $35. If you are the only user and you keep your tabs to a minimum you might not need to do it, but RAM actually works faster with 2 sticks than one, so it is a very nice optimization. For me I would consider this computer to cost $535, plus a tiny bit of elbow grease. At that price it is a very good value for a super slick new laptop. I should also point out that it was incredibly easy to install the RAM, and it looks like it would be very easy to replace the SSD. There is also a big space that I think is for a mobile hard drive (traditional form factor not M2), and the battery appears to be replaceable with just a few screws. ... show more

This is a great laptop computer

I originally was considering the LG Gram Laptop, but at over $1200, it seemed over priced for what it delivers. This ACER Laptop has an AMD processor, and because of the non-Intel processor, has a street price of ~$500.; also because of its fast processor (CPU), it does not last long when it is in stock. It is very fast partly because of its 256 GB solid state drive (SSD). PROS: fast CPU and compact design; excellent viewing screen; 1 - USB 3 port and 2 - USB 2.0 ports & 1 - HDMI port with HDCP support; excellent video camera for ZOOM meetings. Since it is Windows based computer, there are a lot of programs available, which is why I abandoned my Chromebook computer. CON: Sound was a little weak (low); battery life is not great (6-7 hours) ... show more

Slam dunk great for $500

Looked at so many reviews all different brands and in the $500 range this is a slam dunk. Went with Ryzen 5 and very happy Fast, light, amazing resolution, great battery life and simple to set up. I have small business , use office, stream videos, download resumes and watch YouTube/Netflix , this is perfect. The Ryzen 5 is faster vs my Intel 5 by a mile. I downloaded office 365, set up my work email and zero problems which in my experience is rare. Granted this is replacing 5 year old Toshiba laptop and it is like going from a 4 cylinder Chevy to a Tesla! Great buy all around. ... show more

Slim, Fast, and easy to upgrade

I initially bought this PC to do school-related things like essays, PowerPoint, Excel, and so on. Although, I did not want to limit my PC to do just that and In case I wanted to game I felt that this could definitely meet my expectations. My disclaimer is that as soon as I got the machine I upgraded the ram from 8gb to a "Crucial 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR4 2666 MT/s (PC4-21300) DR x8 SODIMM 260-Pin Memory - CT2K16G4SFD8266", and added a "Samsung 860 EVO 500GB 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-76E500B/AM)". This thing runs like a dream, it's quick, looks awesome, and does everything I need plus a lot more. There have been times where I've literally had 15+ google chrome tabs open, with adobe, word, and other programs active and the computer handled it like a champ while listening to Spotify. Sometimes I literally just open up every single program I can find to see if it would slow down my PC and still nada, those extra upgrades definitely helped! I put the exact upgrade items I used up above by name. The only downsides I have for it are that the speakers are at the bottom and not very loud, the fix is to just use headphones or a Bluetooth speaker if you have one. The touchpad is a bit sensitive, you will find that you are typing a sentence and you somehow clicked on some other part of the document and created a bunch of gibberish forcing you to retrace your steps sometimes. It can easily be fixed by buying a mouse, makes using a laptop easier anyway so that's a must eventually. The aluminum casing is gorgeous but also scratches easily to be gentle with the beauty. Battery life is also good, can run out very quickly if you have the PC set to maximum settings, especially for gaming. ... show more

The computer is fast and good, it has a lot of ports. The battery is enough but I wouldn't buy it if you need long battery life. What you get for the price is great. I use it for simple school work and it works great. The screen is not as bright as I would like but I am fine with that. The worst thing for me is that the screen is fragile it bends and wobbles when you move it, but once again I am fine with that. The rest is great. ... show more
