    • Adapter Needs Modification To Work

I am being generous with a three star rating because this product has two issues. The rear diameter of the product was over size by .0025" and would not fit into the quill on my Bridgeport mill. After taking a while to understand the issue by making comparisons to my functional R8 collets and looking on the internet to determine what the R8 collet should measure I found the product was manufactured incorrectly. Fortunately, I was able to grind the rear section of the adapter to R8 specifications and use the product. After modification of the adapter to fit my mill, I discovered that another reviewer had an issue similar to a problem I experience. The supplied set screws us a M5 allen (hex) wrench which is supplied with the adapter. After using the adapter with a annular cutter, I tried to loosen the set screws with the supplied allen wrench and the set screw did not want to move. After increasing the force on the allen wrench the set screw started to round out. I immediately stopped and used a M5 allen driver in an impact to remove the set screws. This worked great, but as the previous reviewer stated, you should purchase new set screws before much use. Another observation is that the overall length of the adapter is quite long. This is especially true with an annular cutter installed. This causes a lot of raising and lowering the table between setups. The ability of the adapter to use the center locating pin with the annular cutter is quite nice, but not needed if you have a digital readout on your machine. I believe the designer of the adapter could shorten the overall length and make a better product. In summary, the manufacturer needs quality control in their manufacturing facility. I use it on my Jet Mill JDM-18. It fit perfectly in the Mill. Now I can use my Evolution Annular Cutter (round drill bits) on the Mill, which Mill does a perfect and easy job versus the Magnetic drill that I was using before having the Mill. FYI. (My worry was that, previously I bought an R8 Collet set and some of the Collets did not fit this Mill and were useless). But this Adaptor fits perfectly. ... show more
