  • Take it slow...
Color: Red
The instructions indicate you should take it slow: for good reason. Naturally, I overdid it, had to take a few days off (from all exercise). [I have physical disabilities: hence why I haven't been able to do push-ups or sit-ups in years.] I chose this to find another way to work my core and shoulders/arms. Do three or four ‘rolls’ a day, to start. It puts unfamiliar pressure (if never before have you used one of these) upon the shoulders and neck, also the hands/wrists. I woke up on day three (after doing more than a dozen+ rolls the days before) with knots in my trapezius. [When I feel that particular ‘pang’: time to stop, before things get worse.] Excellent for cracking your spine: but I would recommend stretching before and after. Slowly work your way out: pop, pop, crack (or maybe that's just me?) you can feel as you roll. Rolling out/back at a slight (not too steep) sideways-angle can help pop your spine back into position. I dropped my numbers down to six rolls, twice a day: that seemed to make it hurt less. [My neck muscles are sensitive: have to be careful about not straining them.] The included knee-pads (for your floor) are appreciated (as my knees aren't great, either). Balance– This is none-too-wobbly: the dual wheels help with that. The handles have various options for holding them most comfortably: but can be strenuous upon wrists/hands if, like me, it has been far too long since last you attempted push-ups. My core is getting tighter, as are my neck and shoulder muscles growing bigger (my wrists/hands are still fairly useless). If you are new to this: take it slow: your abs may not feel the strain, but consider what else might be getting a workout here: listen to your body: but don't wimp out just cause it turns out you're wimpy: find your tolerance, work cautiously towards improvement. Overall– Five Stars. ... show more

  • Know how to properly use it, and it's a GREAT workout
Color: Red
I'm going to start by saying that you really need to understand how to properly use this wheel (ANY ab wheel) before jumping right into it. If not, you run the risk of hurting your wrists or back. It takes equal parts balance and proper positioning, but with that, this thing will kick your butt in a good way. If you've never used one before, just go watch a few Youtube videos to make sure you understand the proper technique. Having said that, this is a good ab wheel to get. It's a good price for what it is, and it works well. The handles are comfortable and the wheel turns easily (but not too easily as to fly out from under you, like a cheaper one I had gotten did). This works best on a hard floor, but without that, it will still work well enough on carpet if you put down an exercise mat. It might work on carpet too, but with the padding and weight-induced unevenness, I wouldn't recommend that. If you use this to the point where the body-weight and movements no longer seem like a good challenge, it's easy enough to add complexity to the exercise. I recommend using a hip-thrust beslt (usually used across your waist, it's a belt that lets you add dumbbells or kettlebells to the hooks on the side, creating evenly dispersed additional weight to your lifts) and putting it on your lower back while using this. All in all I do recommend this product as a good addition to your home-gym. It's tiny but mighty, and will leave you feeling the burn for sure! ... show more

  • Good, inexpensive, intermediate-level ab roller; should come with some lubricant, though
Color: Red
So I have a variety of ab rollers for my home gym. I have one for beginners, with a very wide roller and a bit of a tension spring in it that helps it start to retract at full extension. I also have one that is functionally a razor blade made into a wheel shape -- that one takes a lot of lateral strength to use because it constantly wants to wobble and fall over. This one sits in between a single wheel and a fat-body ab roller. It has no fancy geegaws to assist the process -- you simply grab the handles and roll it out as far you as can in front of you, then try and pull it back without letting any portion beyond your knees touch the ground. Simple, and very effective. There isn't much to this technology, and this one is fine for the price. Fine, that is, is you happen to have some silicon lubricant around. Yeah, the roller on this guy is simply a smooth plastic bushing inside the wheel, through which a thin, chromed bar is pushed. The handles are then pressed on to each side, hiding the bar. It's simple, but there was a lot of friction straight from the box. The wheel did not want to move easily on the chrome bar. A quick shot of some oil with silicon in it, and boom, everything moved smooth as silk. WD-40, 3-in-1, whatever you have laying around, would probably work. This thing will be close to your face , though, so make sure that you don't use something with an odor you can't handle. Again, this is a bare-bones ab-roller, with a price to match. But I am a pretty big guy (215 lbs) and I felt no concern about its sturdiness. They say it will hold 600 lbs; okay, maybe. But it will certainly handle the weight range of most humans looking for an ab roller. The handles are actually pretty comfortable, with just a little width that should accommodate most hand sizes, while still providing a decent flat space so that all your weight isn't being supported on a thin line in your palms. The stickers on the wheel, both inside the two treads, and on both sides of the wheel interior, are pretty cheap. Mine were not well stuck on, and when I tried to press them flat, they wrinkled and bubbled a little. I don't care - I didn't get this for the bling factor, especially at this price. If you are bothered by that sort of thing (and I fully expect these stickers to be in tatters within a few months), you might want to look elsewhere. Otherwise, a good, solid ab-roller, and I recommend. ... show more
