  • Nice visual
Size: MDM9-7" Digital Microscope
I liked the unit it works well.. The only thing I didn't like was having to wait 15-20 min for the battery to charge even when it's plugged in

  • Not really as advertised
Size: MDM9-7" Digital Microscope
I initially bought this to assist me in assembling parts from about 1-2mm + in size for scale models. The construction of the microscope makes it impossible to achieve this goal, though it can "work" for placing 1-2mm parts on to the model itself. The problem I found when trying to work with the microscope is the poor visual quality both on the microscope screen and on my desktop computer. The color of the image is far from the actual piece. It's displayed dull and washed out. It was impossible to adjust the lights to achieve even a close representation. The microscope "system configuration" lacks any type of contrast, sharpness, or any other settings that are normally found to fine tune the screen. When placing an object on a white background, which would normally bring out the color and sharpness of the object, the white is represented as grey or very dull. The overall visual quality is extremely poor and washed out, and in my opinion does not even come close to the advertised images. Though I was able to achieve sharpness of one image (thought washed out) that displayed the details and the individual orientation of the many parts that make up the piece, it is impossible to use the microscope to assist in assembling the piece. In trying to use it to paint details on a piece of about 50-55mm (approx 2") it was impossible to distinguish color variations, though I was able to view placement of 0.1mm parts after the fact; which frankly is a little too late to make adjustments. Setting the video to appear on the desktop computer (I have a Dell), was easy, but going back to the microscope is impossible. You have to disconnect the USB from the computer, which in turn shuts down the microscope. (typically you would select the devise to disconnect from the computer, with is standard for Windows. However, the microscope does not appear as a USB devise) Setting the date is also easy, but the time is hard-coded for 24 hour. Typically time on most to all devices can be set to either 24 or 12 hour - not on this device. I found it cumbersome to navigate through the configuration menu screen. Highlighting a menu option is easy by pressing the Up/Down arrows on the attached "remote" controller, but accessing that option is not intuitive. When selecting a setting you are not presented with a confirmation that setting was indeed selected or saved. When I selected different visual settings I saw no change that told me the selections were indeed set. I kept getting the error that the SD card was not inserted when indeed it was. I looked for the possibility that the card had to be formatted or at least a setting to acknowledge that it was installed, but could not find any setting, nor did the manual make any reference. (typically when you insert a drive to a device, such as a USB drive or a flash-drive, or even a SD card to a computer USB, you get some notification, and acknowledgement that a drive is active so you can save data to it. But on on this device) Saving photos from the desktop computer is not intuitive. Though that could be a Microsoft thing and my inexperience with that app. I couldn't figure out where the image was saved to, but did figure out that by dragging the image from the MS camera app to the desktop saved the image to the computer. However, because of the extremely poor visual quality of the microscope not even Adobe Photoshop could fix it. Soldering: I found it very cumbersome to do the simplest soldering. When trying to solder an LED cable for a RC car, there was really no room to work. The soldering deflective shield that comes with the kit, plus the confined work area in relationship to the microscope line of vision both made it virtually impossible to safely to do the work, let alone to see what I was doing. Bottom line for me: If all you want to do is look at coins or maybe a circuit board close up, this might be the product for you. But if you want to do anything else, like soldering, assembly of model details, take quality photos /videos = to what your iPhone can do, this is definitely not the product for you. For (rounded) a $100, I expected far more visual, photo quality. Though this is a microscope that requires objects to be placed directly under the scopes line of vision, I was hoping that I would have been able to raise the scope up to give more working room. Though I realize I may lose magnification, I was hoping it would be better than the magnifying glass headset I'm using, without loosing visual quality. It's really very poor visual/photo/video quality that killed it for me. I ended up returning it. ... show more

  • Very good little machine
Size: MDM9-7" Digital Microscope
Great zoom and clear images. I bought this to catalogue my coins. Though the description states that it can show an entire silver dollar, it does chop off a portion. Even with the extension and adjusted to full height. Small thing, but it cost a star. Dynamite for all my other coins.

  • Works Much Better Than Expected
Size: MDM9-7" Digital Microscope
First, this is the third "microscopic camera" I've purchased. The others were much cheaper and lacked the screen that this one features. They also did not come with this kind of stand, let alone adjustable lights. While each was better than its predecessor, picture quality was, in the end, disappointing. In two words: This Works. And, much better than I expected. I did need the extension to adjust the level of magnification and field of view that I needed for my purpose, which was to take photographs of the paste (interior) of prehistoric Native American pottery as an aid to determining age and cultural affiliation. The alternative was a "scientific" microscope and camera set-up costing several hundred dollars. It worked flawlessly with the Camera app that is part of newer versions of Windows once I got it set up. ... show more

  • It was fine... untill.
Size: MDM9-7" Digital Microscope
So, I got the item for my US quarter collection. It's a great product. It zooms well, picture is great, takes pictures, charges in no time, and the extra lights work very well. However, in the short time I've had it and just after 3 charges, I noticed the USB charging port got very wobbly and wasn't charging correctly. I got a new cord to test with and then it happened. The charging port was missing! I took apart the display and noticed the USB port completely broke off the circuit board. It needs to be solder back on and I, unfortunately, don't have the tools to fix this. It "was" a great product, but I'm on the lookout for a replacement model now. ... show more

  • Pricey for what it does
Size: MDM9-7" Digital Microscope
I have only had this a few days now. It works as should. Was able to put the extension on and include all my coins in the same view (unlike what some reviews say). What I don't like is the picture taking feature. It doesn't (that I found or know of) keep track of how many pictures you have taken. there is no review to see if they are good or not. The other option I don;t like is hooking it up to my computer. You lose remote access and have no options (due to lack of program) to navigate pictures and or adjust. I will keep it because it does some simple feature really nice. But for me its a bit pricey ... show more
