Assortment of most commonly used chainsaw files for hand sharpening the teeth of your chain. If your chainsaw doesn't cut like new it's probably because your chain is dull! Take it to the local small engine shop and if their like some of the ones I've used, they let the new kid grind half the tooth off in the process of sharpening! You can hand sharpen chains yourself, all it takes is patience and practice. These files come with attached plastic handles which is nice so you don't have to hassle with wobbly old handles. A pair of the most commonly used files for chain is in the package. Unfortunately the handle is marked in metric and here in USA, files are normally identified in imperial fractions. The storage box has the equivalence printed on the box for reference. I plan to permanently ink the fractions on the handles to prevent confusion ... It will take awhile to determine how long they last in active filing, but they seem to be OK material.. Need to be very hard but not brittle. Note: The metric sizes are within 1/10000 of an inch to the fractional size. Close enough I reckon.

I usually just replace chainsaw blades, but this set is large and complete and easy enough to use if you have the patience of a DIYer.

This kit has three different sizes of round files for chainsaw chains with two files of each size. The sizes are 5/32". 3/16", and 7/32". Very handy. The handle has the size of each file clearly marked in millimeters plus there are two flanges on the handles to help is setting the filing angle. The angles are 25 degrees and 30 degrees, so this file set will cover most, if not all, chainsaw sizes. There is also a user manual, which is getting to be more and more unusual. They claim to have very good customer service and even though I haven't needed to use it, all of these helpful touches lead me to believe their claim! These are intended for sharpening chainsaw chains, but I am planning additional uses in my metalworking when I periodically need round files. So these aren't just for chainsaw chains. One thing I learned while using chainsaws is that you always need to take a sharpening file with you when you go to use a chainsaw. All it takes is one accidental touch in dirt and the chain loses its sharpness. With this set there is no excuse for not having a sharpening file with you!

This is a great price on a nice, complete set of chainsaw files in the most popular sizes. The steel is high quality and nicely finished and the grips are firmly molded around the file with a good grip and helpful angle guides to help you maintain the proper angle. Unfortunately, it’s up to the skill of the operator for the tool to give you a good edge, so I’m not quite up to the task but this set is a good way to start. The box serves as a good way to store the files to keep up with them and keep track of the little manual that lists the various tools for which pitch. Unfortunately the manual print is quite tiny, even by today’s standards, so even those with 20/20 vision will need to get out the magnifying glass. Overall, this is a great set for the money.
