Necessity is the mother of invention and we sure needed something to pull our trailer with solar panels daily to two separate locations during the day, because of our trees obstructing sunlight to maintain ultimate exposure. The 66FIT boat trailer hand winch was just what we needed to complete our project. Being in Central Idaho with all the beautiful trees, and I mean, lots of beautiful trees, we are surrounded by beautiful tall trees, we had to figure out, and engineer where, when and how to place our solar panels. Once we figured out, placement would take two locations, in the end, we researched the best hand winch to accomplish movement of said trailer. The 66FIT is what we chose, and hoped for, after installation, and still using. The quality, strength, movement, and gear ratio of 4:1 makes pulling said trailer a breeze: Even my lady can pull the trailer up, without any help, and she's only 5'6" 130ish... pound lady. Putting together the winch for use was very easy. Connect the handle by one nut. The mounting plate has multiple holes for installment, planted a couple T-posts, homemade brackets and we bolted it all together, and we had success! Also, the 33 foot florescent green strap is a huge plus. The color alone helps daily when the line is fully extended for hours. As my lady said, it keeps everyone safe, by seeing it on the ground, as they walk over it. The 66FIT is up to your imagination on it's purpose. Yes, for boats, would be the adverage usage. For us, our project needed the same concept for use. Again, after all our research prior to decide on what type of device would work best, we decided on a hand winch, then we looked at what Amazon has to offer, and ultimately decided on the 66FIT hand winch: I'm glad we did.     • Quality winch. No instructions. Not sure which way the strap goes.
This is a well built boat and trailer winch. The metal plates and gear are heavy gauge. The green strap is well sewn, with and a hefty hook sewn into the end. Ratchet makes a very loud click-click-click sound when engaged. Mine did not come with instructions, so I'm not sure if the strap is supposed to come out the top or out the bottom of the reel. All the pictures on the product page show the strap coming off the bottom of the reel. Out of the box, the strap went between the two shafts that the crank and the ratchet switch are attached to, implying that the strap should come out the bottom of the reel. However, I use this with the strap coming off the top and straight to the load, so that the strap does not rub against the two shafts, and the load is on the side of the winch away from the winch body. That also places the crank on the right hand side as you are facing the load, which works best for right handed persons. ... show more

If you have a small aluminum boat on a trailer - this is perfect! Keep in mind that this winch and strap is rated for 1500 lbs only. To give you an idea of weight - my 20' bowrider boat is 4500 lbs. This winch is going to be mounted on the front of my smaller four wheeler that does not have an electric winch. This winch is small enough and has a very durable hook and strap for winching the smaller four wheeler out of the mud! Love it, great price! ... show more

I got this to use for my pontoon boat on the shore. I easily attached it to a big tree near shore and was able to winch my boat up out of the water. The strap is really heavy. Winch works flawlessly. The only thing I would change is to make the mounting plate a little longer as it’s somewhat difficult cto fit hardware behind the winch mechanism ... show more
