This set of splitters is made of what seems to be heavy weight solid hardened steel. There are two sizes provided (One for splitting smaller logs into kindling, and one for splitting larger logs). It also has several different sized interchangeable shanks for adaptation to the amount of power of the tool you are using. All shafts fit both heads. My first attempt was outside in sub-zero weather and I learned a few things: - For my attempt I could not get the screw head started in frozen oak wood. - It takes more power than my cordless drill to finish the job once I got it started in a softer wood. - Once I put a more powerful drill on it the tool did what it was supposed to do. (Split the wood). - Once you use a more powerful drill my strong suggestions is that you make sure you have a two handle drill, and that you manage the log so it does not spin out of control. (I could easily see broken wrists or even worse if you don’t manage the torque properly). - That being said, I am surprised that this tool did not come with any in instructions or warnings of potential harm. Overall the quality is good and if used properly, with the proper device functions pretty well.

I wasn’t able to get this to work well with my basic drill, so results were limited in my case. That said, I can see how the right setup could make a difference. These bits seem like they would perform better with a more powerful drill and proper technique, especially on softer or well-seasoned wood. The bits themselves feel solid, and the different shank options are helpful for compatibility. I think this tool has potential, but it’s not a plug-and-play solution for lighter-duty drills. If you already have a strong drill and some experience using this type of splitter, it may be more effective than what I was able to achieve.

I exclusively use wood to heat my home, so I spend many weekends each fall preparing. This tool has halved my splitting time. The detachable auger head is the key feature you never knew you needed. It's robust, easy to use and incredibly effective.
