Actually this vice is probably a value, if you're willing to put a little time in it. Initially the unit was a little rough to operate. I disassembled the unit and cleaned up all faces & edges with a hand held diamond stone meant for knife sharpening. Then replaced the moveable jaw hold-down adjusting set screw with a longer screw & locknut in which I set a ball bearing at the contact point and cleaned up the area which receives the screw. Finally I added a needle thrust bearing (handily purchased on Amazon) on the non-load side of the drive screw. This replaced a plain washer. The load side has a ball/thrust bearing already. The vice works like a charm and all surfaces were flat within a thousandth or so. I traded a few hours of this retired guys time rather than pay several hundred more dollars for a high quality vice. Liked the 6” model so much I found a 4” to purchase also. Very smooth out of the box but made note of a prior review on how to improve but my vice is great as is and a lot less money than brand named.
