I am going to start this review with a few caviots. First, mine is a Halo 4, the issues with battery charging must have been corrected. If you just got the charging adapter close the magnet makes it pop in place correctly. I tried and was unable to get to not charge like previous reviews. Second the collar works great but one of the hardware pieces (a screw that holds part of the collar together) came loose and fell out. This caused it to fall off my dogs neck. It is a tracking device so I was able to find it real easily. Unfortunately I find it hard to believe that a company selling something as good as this product is in my opinion, and at the price point it sells for, they did not use a thread locking compound line Loctite on the screws. Before the new collar was put on my dog I used a thread locking compound to prevent this from happening. I purchased it from Amazon so returning it was not a problem, and getting the replacement was also easy. My dog is a Rottweiler, if you are unfamiliar with the breed they are extremely stubborn and want to do what they want. This collar with a audible signals only was able to teach her to keep her in my yard. Add far as use, the first collar was less than a month but it kept charge over 24 hours easily. I was always able to track her and tell exactly where she was at. I have a large home and sometimes would wonder where she was. Instead of calling her name which doesn't always work of she was asleep or playing with one of her toys I could open the app and tell what room of the house she was in. She loves the lake and would go swimming or in the woods and be completely out of line of sight. I could send the whistle to the collar and she would turn and come back to the house. As far as in the lake she collar worked great and never noticed a problem from that. I did replace my collar and then found out about a new color. Kind of wish the orange was out before I replaced hers, but I do love the capabilities of this collar. I do recommend it but will say to keep an eye on the Allen screws that holds the collar together. Update 8/25/2025 Nothing in the first review was changed I have added this part. My overall satisfaction of this collar is great and do recommend it. But, I would recommend anyone that purchases a collar to get a pack of metric Allen wrenches. I did return and replace the first collar because the tube nut and bolts came loose and fell out of the collar. The second collar also had the same fault. My dog loves the collar and it fell off of her somewhere outside and she picked it up and carried it back to the house missing the bolt and tube nut. The one side of the collar uses a rivet and the other side uses the tube nut and bolt. I do actually really like the collar, I have had no problems getting it to take a charge, or any other problems. My dog that has this collar and is a Rottweiler. As soon as she gets a fence warning she turns back under all conditions even if chasing a deer. She can be to far from the house for me to hear her barking and I activate the whistle and going home and within 10 to 20 seconds from activating it on my phone I see her on the app coming to the house. My only complaints about the collar are the tube nuts that hold the rubber band for the collar together. As far as customer service I tried contacting them via phone and you have to set an appointment. You can't do a same day, now appointment you have to go at least 1 day in the future. That is not great and I could not communicate with them because of an emergency at my company. So I have never spoken to anyone with the company. My conclusion is the collar is great, I will purchase another if I get another dog, but I will definitely make sure the tube nut and bolt has a thread locking compound applied

Thought I already wrote a review but I guess it never posted or was removed. Anyways dont buy it. Worst product experience of my life. Next to useless if you live anywhere near trees or branches. A single branch is enough to block its signal and the app just tells you "tough luck". But thats after the app takes like 30 seconds to a minute to boot up and then once it finally does, the app then needs to orient itself as to where your dog is... unlike other apps that run in the background... this app appaerntly doesnt and only does once you open it. If your dog is on it way to the fence then it can take up to 2 minutes before you can do anything about it. Half the time turning on and off the fence doesnt work and the app just says "this feature isnt available at this time" or something like that. Why though? Who knows. This results in false corrections which destroys days or weeks of training. It did just that for me. My dog is allowed to leave at night to visit his buddies but the collar corrected him before i could even get the app to open. The app is shockingly bad for a $600 collar with a $10+ required monthly subscription. The fact that this "revolutionary" tech doesn't even have an option to have a normal transmitter that works without a massive 1minute lag is ridiculous. The company is a counterfeit of the SpotOn collar. Whoever copied the idea cut every corner possible to maximize profits. Thats why they sell you very very basic physical hardware to do what free software could do and call them "beacons". These beacons only offer very very basic functions and yet theyre $50 a pop. And ignore the fact that they actually needed to go out of their way to manufacture the beacons separately from the collar... i repeat, the company HALO needed to go out of their way to produce beacons instead of just having their chinese software engineers type up the same code and add it to the collars code. It costs them money inlabor and materials to build the beacons all while they could just add to the software for free and have it do the same thing. Its 2025... the technology exists and its not some elusive niche knowledge. Well they do that because the majority will not even question it and will buy both on impulse. Most people are clueless as to what exactly goes into producing today's electronics... most of the cost is spent on the battery itself.... so a big bulky $600 collar with a battery life of <30hrs means they maybe spent $10-20 on the battery and id guess $100-150 tops was spent on the rest. Also you better believe the company produced a special magnetic charger to special fit onto the collar... so you must buy theirs and cant use anything else out there. Edit again... their special charger sucks too. Mine just stopped working after 2 months. It wont charge no matter what i do to it. Its not dirt or grime which is another thing thatll render it unseless unless you clean it first with a q tip. Its recessed so you cant just wipe it clean with a sleeve or finger... you gotta really get in there. So the collar is now a paperweight until i decide to hand over more money to them and in principle, idk if i want to do that. They're stealing millions while offering the bare minimum for 3-4x the cost of production. They're really good at advertisement though. Their big claims are just lies or at best, misleading truths based on IDEAL conditions like in a wide flat open field next to a cell tower lmao... thats the only setting this collar could appear impressive to the ignorant individual. This collar sucks so hard i cant stress this enough. Its pretty easy to see that even though this company does care about customer satisfaction, its at the bottom of their to do list because they are also milking their customers at the same time. Its a shame my other comment didnt save because theres alot to hate about this collar. Unfortunately I think im stuck with it but maybe Amazon will come through Edit... im stuck with it and its only gotten worse. I probably curse the company verbally on a daily basis... like hardcore cussing to myself using the worst words i know... ive never needed to update a review but this is my 3rd or 4th edit now because it keeps surprising me with its downsides. Makes me want to design one also so I can steal away some of their customer base. I promise I'd do it better than them. All it would take is to hit up a Chinese fab shop and say "make it like this but instead of X, do Y" and youd be all set. If you are envisioning you and your dog hiking, fishing, hunting, camping, or ANYTHING involving tree cover then DO NOT get this collar. It simply doesn't work in the woods. Forget about it. Plain and simple. Doesnt work under branches no matter how thin they are. Basically if my dog lays in the shade, the collar disconnects and the app just tells me his last known location.. but ill end it now because i have much better things to do than talk about Halo... like, well anything really. Very annoyed with this collar. Id love to see this company go out of business even though that would mean my collar is legit useless. Im actually considering paying someone to jailbreak it so I can use it without paying HALO monthly. If I succeed ill be sure to post it here. Sure would be satisfying to know i cut into their profit margins lmao. Im all for it baby. Stay tuned I guess If you have the funds, SpotOn appears to be the only legitimate option. Edit: 2.5 weeks and every time I use the app it makes me want to return it. It does work enough keeping him in the yard but thats mainly because he is a good boy and obeys quickly. But any sub $100 system can do that. But yea more than half the day its spends disconnected. And just now I let my dog outside and realized his fence was turned off (hes allowed to roam a bit at night when theres nobody to bother), so before he has a chance to escape and go visit his buddies, I had to search for my phone, unlock it, load the app which takes like 60 seconds, scroll down to find the fences toggle, and then clicked it from "ignore fences" to dont ignore... and it wont work lol. Message pops up saying its not able to do that right now.... aaaaand my dog escaped and is gone as I type this. Hes not in danger but theres 1 individual that basically hates life and has threatened to hurt my dog so any time I dont KNOW where he is, I cant have peace until I do. So the $600 collar has brought me some peace when it works maybe half the time. But for $600 you gotta at least get the fences right regardless of a medium sized tree that i can see the sun through. I keep ranting because im amazed at the lack of functionality in this $600 item. Edit... this review is scattered all over and hard to follow im sure, because of the frequency I feel the need to update it and warn you not to buy it. The collar's rivets broke and the collar fell off in the woods right as the battery died. Luckily it died right after it fell off so the last known location was close enough for me to find it.... but that was pure luck. Just disassembled everything and added locktight like the company should have but didnt because like i said, they cut ALL the corners producing this thing. Cough up the $999 and get SpotOn. It works for 1. And for 2, no required subscription to use the fences. Garbage.

A daily review: Day 1: Directions are easy to follow, with short video demos also. Ninja is wearing the collar comfortably with only "two fingers slack" beneath it. I won't cut the VERY long collar until we are sure we will keep this; a zip tie is holding the loose end for now. PS It was delivered one day earlier than projected- nice jumpstart for training... Day 2: Training is going well. He has already learned the whistle encouragement in our lessons. Taking our time, no rushing as I want to do it right. Also, the collar went almost two days on first charge. It is nice to get the collar status on the app so you know when battery is getting low. Stay tuned for day 3. Skipping forward to day 6: Recap of the past few days is that we were busy with other things and didn't do much training. However, we have been consistent with the whistle training; this training is so easy to do. Today Ninja was very tired when we returned home from a fun weekend at our camper. His fatigue was perfect for training this afternoon. On a very loose leash, he chose to not go beyond the boundaries. He stopped walking and turned around- you could tell he was "catching on" that the warning and boundary feedbacks were enough. The level 4 for "emergency" seems to be working but when he is more spunky tomorrow, I will see if he still stays put even if there is something enticing over the boundary ( I will put steak fat and steak pieces within his scent area, but outside of his range). My only negative feedback so far is regarding the set up-having so many choices for the encouragement and prevention settings. The settings we chose are (for encouragement) the "long whistle, level 5:; we have "double paw tap" for warning and "buzz" for the boundary. I still am not sure if these are the best for him or if any one of them would do the job. Also, once you create a fence, make sure to turn on feedback- it took me awhile to figure out why the fence wasn't activated! I like that I am not the "bad guy"; I am not scolding, pursuading, or pulling on the leash. To Ninja, his boundary is now clearly consistent so there is no uncertainty So far, I am really impressed... It is expensive, but if it ends up working, what is my beloved dog's life worth? I had been nervous as it seemed like there were very mixed reviews. This has now taken less than a week- this wasn't even delivered til just 6 days ago. Ninja hasn't been traumatized in any way. Yes, he has had to learn some lessons that were not fun and enjoyable, but these lessons beat getting hit by a car, shot by an angry neighbor if he trespasses on their livestock, getting lost, or caught in some coyote trap. In the meantime, this beautiful, one year old, 50+ lb rescue dog is now enjoying exploration and life outside of a shelter....feeling sunshine and love and hopefully soon exploring 15 acres. Stay tuned. Day 7 and likely my final review: We are sold on this system. This morning, Ninja saw a rabbit and did try to chase it. He quickly came back home and we can see on the map that he had gone into the emergency area. He also went into a different emergency area (by the road) a few hours later. I know this isn't the most pleasant experience for him but again it beats him getting hit by a car or causing some kind of an accident (especially when a side by side goes by or horseback riders). We know that with time he will learn the boundaries and really enjoy his freedom. This is a very impressive system. Hoping that there won't be any glitches in the future. PS the battery is going strong with 24 hours left. A nightly charge is perfect. Day 8: One more thing... I know this post is long- you are debating buying an almost $600 item so, you want to be sure and you are reading this. I saw a few reviews that say the collar loses signal and you can't see feedback. I only know from our experience that it loses signal when Ninja is right next to the house- this makes sense and is no big deal as he is safe there. Day 10- I got nervous and had my doubts when I got notifications that the connection was lost, especially when Ninja was down in the trees and I couldn't see him. Then I read that this may be due to a weaker wifi ( country living) and that the fence is always on due to it relies on GPS. It was scary to not do live tracking and stunk that I couldn't use the whistle command, but it was very reassuring to see him come back even when he was under trees and in heavy brush. I continue to be impressed!

Alright, so I've now had this collar for several months, enough to give an honest review on it. I live on about 5 acres, over half of which are wooded heavily and none of it is fenced. My sweet dog is a Blue Heeler and she has always loved to run. Seeing as we didn't have proper fencing I decided to try Halo Collar for it's fence boundarys and it's GPS tracking capabilities. I have the basic plan and it works great for my needs. It costs about $10 a month. The collar has good range, my dog can be half across the property and I can see it from my phone. The collar is also waterproof and I've had no trouble with it messing up in or around water. My Heeler loves to play in the creek that runs in the center of our land so she's tested that feature a lot. There are three levels for boundary warning...first it warns that the animal is near the warning zone, then it warns that they are close to the boundary then it will do whatever you set it to do ... Whether that be static or noise or vibration... continually until they come back into the safe zone. I've not had many problems with connection, sometimes it takes a moment for the collar to connect to my phone but that's usually when my dog is exploring in the woods. My one complaint would have to be how long it stays charged. It appears that the collar never turns off even when you bring it inside while your not using it. This is why my review is 4 stars. If it's not plugged in the battery drains and it takes a while for it to charge back to a full level. If you always remember to plug it in and keep it plugged up until you use it again, this won't be to much of a problem for you. Just a slight inconvenience. Other than that this collar is great and really works well for unfenced land. I can always keep an eye on where my dog is and know she is safe. She learned really fast and even without the collar on she stays away from the boundaries set. The app is quite simple to use also. Setting the fences are easy and you can change them and make them unique. You can stop all feedback from the collar from the app if you go on a walk, or if your dog is inside. I'd definitely recommend setting the collar or vibration mode and walking your set boundaries so you can get a better idea of where those boundaries are. I would also recommend setting all settings on low when you first let you dog explore with this collar on so that they don't get scared when they go past the boundaries as they are sure to try and do. Positive reinforcement helps a bunch. I'd say this collar is a good choice if your looking for something that will help keep your dog in an area without a fence. It serves it purpose well and is far more affordable than electric fencing! I hope this helps everyone who can't decide if this is a good option for their pet.

Lifesaver that’s what this collar is. I was always worried about my dad’ dogs ( 2 Great Danes and a boxer) running off due to their curiosity and we live in Alaska so bears and moose are a problem when it comes to pets. These collars are light weight and you can size it so even a puppy can wear them. They come in multiple colors so you can tell who’s is who’s if you have more than 1 dog. The quality is very high and no problem with getting them wet. Safety was our biggest concern and this collar works incredible and keeps my dogs very safe. The audible beeps are nice and loud the second stage vibration is strong and the third stage attention getting zap is just enough so they will stay inside the area more by just hearing the beeps. Best of all I didn’t have to spend thousands of an underground fence, you program these collars with a map on the app, just draw it with a finger and boom that’s your fence. We use it at home, camping, walk’s it’s so great. The price is high for a collar but please keep in mind this is a fence you can take anywhere so it is totally worth the price. I hope this helps others out there. We love it

I’ve owned two Halo collars for about 15 months, and when they work, they’re fantastic. The concept is excellent, and I really like the virtual fence system. Unfortunately, reliability has been a recurring issue. The biggest problem I’ve experienced is GPS accuracy. There have been multiple occasions where my dogs were clearly still inside the virtual fence, yet the collar alerted them as if they had left the boundary. When I checked the Halo app, it actually showed the dog outside the fence even though they were physically still inside it. This seems to happen when they’re near the boundary, but not close enough that they should be receiving a warning. Another thing potential buyers should be aware of is that the collars don’t perform particularly well in heavily wooded areas. On my property, if my dogs go underneath dense tree cover, the app will often show the collar as disconnected until they come back into a more open area. This isn’t necessarily a fault with the product as GPS signals can be affected by tree cover, but it’s something to consider if you live on a wooded property. I’ve also had problems with collars not charging properly or failing to turn on. Between my two collars, both have been replaced twice in just 15 months, so I’ve gone through four replacement units altogether. One thing Halo does deserve credit for is its customer service. On a couple of occasions, they proactively contacted me to let me know there was a known issue with one of my collars and advised me to stop using it while they sent a replacement. On other occasions, I contacted them after experiencing problems, and they quickly agreed the collar was faulty and replaced it without much hassle. Their customer support has been excellent. The collar straps are another weak point. My dogs have managed to damage or tear them off, and I’ve had to replace the straps myself because they don’t seem particularly durable. Overall, I really want to love this product because when it’s working correctly, it’s an excellent system and gives me great peace of mind. However, the frequent hardware issues and occasional GPS inaccuracies make it difficult to rely on completely. If Halo can improve the reliability and durability of the collars, I think it would easily deserve five stars.

I have a 18month old 100lb Cane Corso who is the sweetest most curious dog I’ve ever had and has recently discovered she can clear our fence whenever she feels like it’s time for an adventure. Needless to say she has terrified my neighbors on more than one occasion running after them for treats. We tried the tractive which didn’t alert at all for five min. The Fi collar which I have for the rest of my dogs alerted faster but let’s be honest. If I’m in a meeting, not looking at my phone or washing dishes I have no idea I’ve received an alert and by the time I run outside using my phone as a compass like Dora the explore looking for treasure, though entertaining for the neighbors to watch is extremely tedious and anxiety riddling. I finally pulled the trigger on the Halo game changer. Pros: There are three different warnings I can configure if she gets near the invisible fence. I personally have a beep first, then a vibrate if she keeps proceeding and if she hits the perimeter a shock. What I’ve noticed is she’s only gotten shocked once, she responds now to the beep cause she knows what’s coming if she keeps going. Recall options for proactive recall are amazing. I have mine set to use the silent whistle on the collar. This thing is amazing! I need her to return home I push the button it releases a silent whistle and wherever she is she comes. Plus side is if my other dogs are near by they come too. It does take some training and positive reinforcement. Cons: You have to go into the app and start a walk to disengage the invisible fence when walking them. I have unfortunately forgotten this way to many times and shocked the hell out of her. So now I just remove it completely when we go on a walk. If they had an app on the Apple Watch where when you set a walk it automatically synced with the collar and turned the fence off that would be amazing!! Please make this update! Battery life… if I don’t use the walk feature I typically get three days battery life not great but honestly I just charge it at night when I charge my phone. Overall style does suck it’s bulky as shit but beyond that I can’t change the color and there aren’t a lot of styles. Ok she’s a dog but still she looks like she’s wearing a glorified ankle monitor around her neck. They make gps watches now why does this thing have to be so big. If it was smaller I would buy for my little dogs too just for the proactive commands I can set. The app is ok but I am tech savvy. User interface could be better to many clicks but now I’m nit picking.also don’t expect to be able to easily share the app!!! This needs to be improved I had to give my login and password to each of my family members so they could use the device in my absence! This should be an easy improvement so please do it Halo! I should be able to easily share this device with others so if I travel and she’s not with me they can keep my dog safe. Note: DO NOT setup with Apple ID as your login credentials if you want to share your username and password with others to use the app I did this and couldn’t share it and had to set it all up all over again with a standard email and password . 2 hours and much cursing later… And finally if your looking for something to tell you when your dog slept, was resting, how much they ate and drank and when they took a shit look somewhere else, this is not the device your looking for. If your looking just for an invisible fence your in the right place. Overall a game changer and happy I didn’t listen to the negative reviews. I haven’t even watched the videos that they provide so I am sure there is more I can do. Here’s what’s KEY! When setting up your invisible fence hold it in your hand and walk the property ! Do this multiple times over two to three days. What I found is when I first set it at my property line it actually was three feet in from where I set it one day and with the three alert system it was five feet from that. The second day it floated in about two feet. The third day I got it precise. Just expect you will have to tune your invisible fence to start. I found there were areas I had to let it out more (maybe because of trees I’m not sure) and areas in more. But once the initial setup was done it’s worked perfectly for a month now with no prison breaks. I look forward to going camping this summer and visiting family and friends because now I don’t have to scream after my dogs I can use the silent whistle and they all come running. Defiantly would recommend just take the time to set it up.

I purchased it in November of 2024 and did not realize that by purchasing it on Amazon I did not get a full 90 days to test out the product so I have been stuck with this very expensive collar. I looked at other collars before purchasing, but ultimately went with this one due to the size of our yard. Here is my honest review about my experience with this collar and hopefully it will save some of you from purchasing it in case, like me, it will not work for you. First, I had no issues setting up the collar through the Halo app. The process was quite smooth. Initial indoor training with the collar went well. My dog responded to the sounds on the collar and I thought it was going to be smooth sailing once we went outside. However, trying to recall her by manually providing feedback proved difficult as I could not hear the collar and there was often a lag so I had no way of knowing when she received the feedback. Since that was not going well I tried to skip the manual feedback training outside. I set up the fence boundaries and attempted to use multiple sounds for warning, boundary, and emergency. I tested it myself first and it was a nightmare. Sometimes it would correct early and other times not at all until I was in the road and then it would give me warning feedback rather than emergency feedback. Sometimes it would give emergency feedback when I was still within the boundaries of the “fence.” Then I attempted to set only one type of feedback for warning, boundary, and emergency since it was erratic and would be confusing to her. I spent hours trying to find the right spot to place the fence so she would at least get some type of warning before she reached the road. However, the app is not precise enough. No matter where I placed the fence, the feedback was never consistent. I knew I couldn’t put this on my dog as she is a rescue and is very fearful. The collar was so unreliable that I knew it would leave her shaking and confused. Halo claims that this collar can create boundaries as small as 30 x 30 (this is the main reason I chose this subscription based collar rather than the one time purchase SpotOn collar as their minimum boundary was 60x60 at the time) and maybe it can, but only if it is an empty field with no tree cover or buildings and no road to contend with. Halo suggest that you place boundaries 15 feet from roads and 15 feet from buildings which makes sense because the collar doesn’t pick up right near them. Well, if you have a house 30ish feet from the road, guess what? It isn’t going to work. My difficulties with the collar were probably compounded by the fact that our house is a barndo so it is made of metal. At this point I tried to return the collar and discovered that you only have 90 days to return it if it is purchased directly from them. I thought that would include me since I it was sold by Halo Collar on Amazon, but that is not the case. My collar was ineligible for return within 90 days because even though I purchase directly from them, I did not specifically buy it from their website. Since I was stuck with it, I decided to use it as a tracking collar and tool for manual feedback. At least I can still do that. Wrong. I would let my dog outside and it would take minutes for the collar to connect. At this point I have no idea where my dog is and have no way of recalling her with the app. Often when the app was connected and I would see she was heading toward an area I did not want to her go, I would hit the feedback button and it would be delayed or I might never get a confirmation that feedback was provided to her. I found myself having to walk the property and find my dog before the collar ever connected. I have found her in wide open spaces with not a cloud overhead and yet the collar can’t seem to locate her. Consistency is so important and this collar is anything but. The collar does not stay tight. I have to tighten it multiple times a day. It is good thing I am not trying to zap her because it loosens so often that it would be ineffective. One of the covers for the prong connection has been lost due to them unscrewing during wear. The collar does not have a 40 hour or more battery life. If the cable does not have a good connection when I put the collar on the charger at night, the battery will be dead by morning. So the battery lasts around 20 hours. This is a very expensive collar and you have to pay for a subscription. Is it worth it? No, not for me. Unless I move to a property more suitable the collar is pretty much useless to me. That doesn’t mean it won’t work for you in your situation, but I would think very carefully about your property and whether or not you may face some of the issues I found.
