  • IDENTIFY KEY VITAMINS & MINERALS YOU MAY NOT BE PROPERLY ABSORBING. When your body isnt properly absorbing the key vitamins and minerals from your diet, nutrient imbalances can occur. If theyre left unchecked, symptoms like low energy, brittle nails, dry skin, hair shedding, and fatigue can develop. This test identifies the specific nutrients that may need diet adjustments to support better absorption.
  • TESTS 112 VITAMINS, MINERALS & TRACE ELEMENTS. Our nutrition test analyzes your hair samples response across Vitamins A, B-Complex, C, D, E, K, Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc, Iron, Selenium, Trace Minerals, Essential Amino Acids, plus Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids.
  • HOW OUR TESTING WORKS. 1) Register your test online or in the 5Strands app. 2) Collect 10 to 15 strands of hair. 3) Mail your sample to our certified lab using the included prepaid envelope. Once the lab receives it, your results are delivered to your email and mobile dashboard within 4 days. No blood draw, no office visits, or extra fees.
  • CLEAR ANSWERS TO MAKE TARGETED DIET ADJUSTMENTS. Your hair analysis report organizes each nutrient into 4 response levels so you know which vitamins or minerals your body may have the most trouble absorbing. Use your results to adjust food choices and supplements to support better absorption and improve energy levels, skin hydration, hair and nail strength, and mental clarity.
  • INDEPENDENTLY VALIDATED & DOUBLE-SCAN LAB PROCESS. Backed by third-party research and analyzed twice in a certified U.S. lab for accuracy, 5Strands is trusted by more than 345,000 customers and pets to uncover nutritional imbalances affecting daily performance, skin and hair health, and overall wellbeing.

  • Getting answers was so simple
I look this nutrition test at home to see if I was missing any vitamins, and the process was very easy. It tested for so many different things and helped me understand my body's needs much better. Now I know exactly how to eat to make sure I am getting my minerals.

  • I am frequent user. I retest yearly
I do 5strands every year..great info and more detailed than just allergy tests. There is a difference in cooked and raw vegetables. There is difference in variety of fish, vegetables. Example: I can have any potato but yellow ones for example. I can have raw tomatoes but not cooked tomatoes. So much info. They email report and you can print out in color report style or Excel it. ... show more

  • Let me save you the trouble
I purchased the 5Strands Nutrition Test hoping to gain meaningful insight into possible nutrient absorption issues. Unfortunately, after receiving my results and looking more closely at how the test works, I realized it does not measure actual vitamin or mineral levels in the body. The report I received back clearly states that it does not measure how much of a nutrient is present, but instead reflects the body's “energetic relationship” with that nutrient. There are no numeric values, no reference ranges, and no way to determine whether you are truly deficient, sufficient, or excessive in any nutrient. While some things were flagged in my report, I have no way of knowing if I am too high or too low in those nutrients. NOTE: I know from a lab result that I have an iron deficiency, causing my thyroid issues, but iron was not flagged in this report. That tells me the results are inaccurate. Without measuring actual levels, the results are not useful. Acting on them could lead someone to take supplements unnecessarily or miss a real deficiency that requires proper testing. I wasted my time and money, and I am trying to keep you from doing the same. ... show more

  • Reasonably accurate, fair price, includes complete list of items tested
Having never had a vitamin deficiency test done in a doctor's office to compare the results to, I can't really comment on the accuracy of the results. All I can say is that the deficiencies listed in my report made sense to me based on what I know about my health and diet. The directions for collecting the required hair sample were very easy to follow. It took about 2 weeks between submitting my sample and recieving my results. My questions for customer service regarding my results were answered within 14 hours of asking. This test is a reasonably priced option for those of us whose health insurance won't cover the lab test. The following is a complete list of what they test for: 5 Strands Nutrition Test- Nutritional Items Tested Histidine Isoleucine Leucine Lysine Methionine Phenylalanine Threonine Tryptophan Valine Alanine Arginine Asparagine Aspartic Acid Cysteine Cystine Glutamine Glycine Ornithischians Proline Serine Taurine Tyrosine Hydrogen Lithium Nitrogen Oxygen Calcium Magnesium Phosphorus Potassium Silica Zinc Orotate Alpha-linolenic Acid Lecithin Linoleic Acid Omega 3 Omega 6 Omega 9 Nickel Strontium Vanadium Bioflavonoids (anthoxanthins) Fluoride Gamma Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) Glutathione Melatonin S-Adenosyl-L-Methionine (SAMe) Boron Chloride Chromium Cobalt Copper Germanium Iodine (aqueous) Iron Manganese Molybdenum Selenium Silicon Sulfur Vitamin A (retinyl palmitrate) Vitamin B1 (thiamine) Vitamin B10 (PABA) Vitamin B11 (salicylic acid) Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) Vitamin B13 (orotic acid) Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) Vitamin B3 (niacin) Vitamin B4 (adenine) Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) Vitamin B7 (biotin) Vitamin B8 (myo-inositol) Vitamin B9 (folic acid) Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) Vitamin Choline Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) Vitamin K1 (phylloquinone) Vitamin K2 (menaquinone) ... show more

  • Not as informative as expected
Test is easy enough but limited information is provided, which was disappointing. You provide strands of hair and results arrive within a couple weeks. I expected to at least understand if levels were elevated or deficient, not necessarily even a reference range, but it doesn't provide this information. It only lets you know if you have an issue and if it's low, moderate or severe. So you're not going to understand if it's an elevated result or deficient in the specific mineral/vitamin or amino acid but only if you have an issue with it. It's minorly helpful but then i still have to have those retested by my doctor IF i can get them to not dismiss this result, like so many physicians do. It's helpful in the sense that i know i have an issue, but that's it..and i already knew that. If it at least provided whether you are deficient or elevated it would be a phenomenal test because it tests things i never even heard of. So i gave a 3 start for that reason. I'd give a 5 if it provided more information about deficiency or elevation rather than just severity of the issue. ... show more

  • Why I purchased this test
I take supplements regularly and have never known how my body responds. With this test I learned which ones my body can handle as well as which one I should be trying to get through whole foods rather than supplements. I recommend this for anyone who is equally curious. Plus the customer support is wonderful if you have any follow-up questions about your results. ... show more

  • Highly recommend
I ordered the 5Strand hair analysis to help address some concerns I have. I got the results back in a timely manner and today did a consultation with Stacey. She went over my test and suggestions on what do do moving forward. She was so easy to talk to and very helpful! I am going to do a food sensitivity test as she recommended and will go from there. I would highly recommend this test and the consultation and I believe it would very beneficial. Stacy went out of her way to call me since I was not sure on how to do a Zoom meeting. ... show more
