My basement has been damp forever, especially in the summer, and I was tired of running a little tabletop unit that barely made a dent. Got this one hoping the bigger capacity would actually handle the space, and so far it's kept up with a room around 1200 sq ft no problem. Setup was easy, just plugged it in and set the humidity target with the touch panel. I hooked up the drain hose right away since I didn't want to deal with emptying a tank every day, and that part has worked great, just runs continuously into a floor drain. The humidity display seems accurate compared to my separate hygrometer, within a couple percent. It shuts off once it hits my target and kicks back on later, so it's not running nonstop wasting power. The one thing that knocks a star off for me is the noise on high speed. It's not unbearable but it's definitely noticeable if you're in the same room, more like a small window AC unit. I mostly run it on low overnight and switch to high during the day when nobody's down there. Also the auto defrost seems to kick in a lot on cooler mornings which pauses the dehumidifying for a bit. Overall I'm happy with it. My basement smell is basically gone and the drywall doesn't feel damp to the touch anymore. Just wish it was a bit quieter on the higher setting. ... show more

Not sure that this would handle the large basement space I am using it for, but so far so good. It took a few days to get it down to the humidity level I wanted, but it has been in place one week and it has kept it there. I would suggest if possible to run the line to a drain or you will be spending alot of time emptying the water reservoir. The fan is quiet and it was easy to set up. This dehumidifier is very heavy, but thankfully it has wheels, so it’s easy to move around. It feels sturdy and well-built. I mainly bought it because it’s Energy Star certified, and I’m hoping it will save on electricity over time. The built-in drain option is also very convenient, so I don’t have to keep emptying the water tank. A little while after I bought it, I noticed the price dropped slightly. The dehumidifier works fantastic, 5 stars! BUT the water tank is only 1/2 gallon, therefore the 3 stars. If you need this unit for a lower humidity environment it should do the job.
