  • Finally got around to installing them...
Purchased these way back in December 2011, and finally got around to installing them in the dash of my 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan last night. These replaced the OEM speakers, which were long dead. Only the rear speakers worked since I "inherited" the van from my wife 2 1/2 years ago. It's a beater, 15 years old and has over 250K miles, and at that age you just accept some things are going to quit working, and accept it. Except I love music, and I spend way too much time driving to and from work on my 30-mile commute to suffer through the poor tonality of rear speakers that I have to crank up loud to hear way up in the driver's area of the cabin. That, and I had installed a new head unit that has Bluetooth, but the Bluetooth didn't work because the voice of the other caller is piped through the front speakers...which means they could hear me, but I could not hear them due to my dead front speakers. Well, these speakers were quite inexpensive, and the reviews were pretty good despite the low price. So I bought them. But after receiving them, the trepidation of actually pulling out the dash to install them caused me to throw them in the floorboard, still boxed up, where they slid around until the box was frayed. Flash forward to this week, when I decided I would finally try my hand at installing them. After watching a youtube video demonstrating how to remove the dash, I finally got brave enough to tackle the job. It actually went pretty smoothly, the biggest problem being the really short length of the existing speaker wire I had to cut the adapter off of and strip and splice the speaker onto (I just cut the speaker wire that came with the speakers off about 15 inches behind the prong that slips onto the terminals and spliced it to the existing speaker wire). Well, I've had a day with them so far. The sound is very bright, bordering on shrill, so you will want to take the edge off the higher frequencies if you can by using your equalizer (or presets) to make some adjustments. Very accurate in the upper range in terms of fidelity. Not much bass to speak of. Unlike others, I didn't experience any distortion when I cranked up the head unit, which is rated at 4 X 50 watts, to its upper limits. But really, how can I complain? For around $15, these are all that I needed to get some music back in the front of my cabin, they work and sound just fine, so it's money well spent. I didn't expect $15 speakers to sound like they cost $200, but I would say these sound way better than what you should expect from $15 speakers. ... show more

  • Excellent value, EXCEEDED expectations!
Please bear in mind that these are INEXPENSIVE speakers. (If I had paid $50 or more per speaker, I'd give 4 stars. $100 or more would be 3-4 stars) I put myself through college installing high end vehicle stereo equipment, so I feel that I understand a bit about car audio. My assessment: Excellent value, solid quality of sound, simple installation. I was able to remove the door panels, clip wires from stock Infinity speakers, clip-bind/fuse & cover wiring that came with the speakers, test sound, and replace door panels...all in 35 minutes. I recently gave an overhaul to my 1994, solid as a rock 318-v8, Dodge Dakota SLT Ext cab. My father bought it new in '94 & I bought it from him rather than have him sell it. The original factory speakers were all blown, save the right rear 5x7. I don't listen to deafening levels of music...I just like to enjoy a full range of sound from my music. I was shocked by the quality of sound for the price. I got these for under $15 from Warehouse Deals. I fully expected to get sound that was on the low end of "acceptable" for the 45 minute boat haul sessions to & from the lake, or the quick little in-town trips. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I cranked everything from 2Pac to Evanescence in testing the speakers. At full volume, since the factory stereo only distributes roughly 15 watts Continuous Power("RMS") per 4 channels, and these speakers are rated at 100 watt continuous/200 watt max, there will be some impedance on the highest volume output delivered from the receiver. If you're using a factory receiver, on any aged vehicle, and want to be an idiot who hopes to go deaf some day...you may want to add a dedicated 2-channel amp with 50 watt output per channel. These little speakers will sufficiently handle you mid to high-range needs. I HIGHLY Recommend these speakers to anyone who likes a full range of sound, without the bloody eardrums. The sound quality WELL EXCEEDS the price you will pay. ... show more

  • Excellent, don't listen to the 1 stars!!!
At first I was skeptical, reading the many awful reviews these speakers received.. But let me tell you how pleasenetly surprised I was.. They sound GREAT! I have a head unit with 50 watts a channel output.. So ya figure - 25 RMS... They bump just like they should.. Super clear vocals and great MIDS... With a small 4 channel amp I can only imagine they would sound even better.. For the price they are perfect. Even if you are just replacing them with a factory head unit, still the best for the price.. More exspensive, better grade speakers, will def with out a doubt out perform these, but in the same breath - THEY SHOULD. If you are looking for a high end speaker to hook up to a high end system - keep looking, but if you are looking for factory replacements, an upgrade from stock to a better head unit, than these are a great pick. ... show more

  • 1990 Buick LeSabre Door Speakers replacement.
Nice replacement speakers for the stock speakers of the 1990 Buick LeSabre I’m restoring. Lined up perfectly with the door speakers plastic holders and used the stock screws. I just had to splice the spear wire to the existing door speakers plastic holders wire with soldering heat shrink. Sound is great, if fact better than before. 5 Stars. ... show more

  • Surprisingly good speaker for the money
I bought the Pyle PL53BL speakers to replace the factory rear seat side panel speakers in my 97 Dodge 2500 Club Cab. I bought these before removing the original speakers, as all the speaker fitment guides here and elsewhere indicated these were a fit. They did fit but weren't an exact fit as the original speakers were closer to a 5.75" or possibly 6" size. The two speaker mounting points in the truck's metal were spaced just close enough to enable me to get mounting screws in the slots in the Pyle speaker frames, so they did mount OK. However, due to the smaller diameter there was a sizable air gap (about 1.8" or so) between the speaker and hole in the truck's metal. I closed off this gap using some putty-like weather rope seal from a big box home improvement store. I'm running these speakers on an older Alpine CDA-9856 head unit and Alpine 3566 6-channel amp (conservatively rated 35W RMS x4 and 120W RMS for bridged sub channel into 4 Ohms). Following advice from several reviewers and professional installers, I bought a roll of sound dampening material to apply to the door panels and elsewhere. I bought roof repair material - Tape and Seal is one brand - which is very similar to another very high priced product and it worked quite well. Once this was done and the speakers were mounted and connected to the amp, I turned it on for the first time. After the initial checkup to make sure all speakers were working, I cranked up the volume to a pleasantly loud level and was very surprised and pleased to hear the quality of sound coming from these inexpensive speakers. Being 5.25" bass drivers they understandably don't produce much bass output but the midrange and highs are much smoother and detailed than I was expecting. I paired these up with a pair of Pyle Driver PLDV6K 6.5" 2-way component speakers in the front doors and I'm very pleased with how nicely these compliment them. They're well matched regarding their efficiency, producing very near the same volume level and similar sound quality. While not quite as smooth and clear as the fronts, they do a splendid job of providing clean sounding music to fill the rear seat area and filling the back of the cab. They're SO much better than the original factory speakers. So, long story short, I HIGHLY recommend these for anyone looking for a very reasonably priced, smaller coax system and wants surprisingly accurate, smooth and detailed sound quality and listens to their music at reasonably loud levels. I would definitely buy these again and recommend these to others. UPDATE: After about 2 years these speakers have basically "given up the ghost" and for the most part are now inoperable. I had hoped they would be able to handle the clean power of my Alpine amp, especially since they weren't getting all the bass signal they would in a full range system, but alas they didn't. They are now working intermittently, with audio "popping on and off" as the speakers' litz wire (the flexible wire between the frame and cone) apparently makes and breaks continuity. I still liked the sound quality they produced when they worked well earlier, I'm just now believing they aren't made to handle even the 35+ watts RMS/channel my amp can produce. The front Pyle Driver PLDV6K 6.5" 2-way component speakers on the other hand are still performing well, which is why I believe it's just a simple matter of inadequate power handling ability that has caused these speakers to die off. In a lesser powered system they may work better and longer. ... show more

  • Best Boom for your Buck
These Speakers sound pretty dang good for the price paid for them. I used to work in car audio install, and swore by Polk audio for the most part, but bought a beater car and wanted to at least have something in it, so I got these and a used Pioneer deck, and wow I was extremely surprised at the quality! The speakers themselves are built well, and are made of the same types of materials seen in the higher end speakers. The look and feel great, and most importantly they sound great. They have a very good low range, and high range, sadly the mid range is lacking a bit, but certainly not more than i expected. I also bought a set of 5x7 oval, for the back seat, which sounded even better than these, as i expected. (Bigger is often better, in car audio) The cons: The speakers are pretty bulky, and the mid and tweeter stick out much farther than on any other speakers I’ve seen, also the protectors they came with were also very bulky and unattractive, so because of these 2 things I had to make some minor alterations to my vehicle so that they would fit, had the speaker guards been more attractive, I would have just mounted them with a spacer and used the guards instead of the OEM covers. An addition the speakers sticking out a lot they are also much wider than the holes cut for them, as other speakers I tried fit in the holes just fine, but with these I had to shave some plastic off, set them in slightly angled, and snip off several of the screw supports on the speakers. The cons did not effect my rating because of how ridiculously cheap these speakers were, and how great they actually sound, another bonus was that they came with speaker wire, and template to cut holes bugger (likely because they know that they take up more space than they are supposed to. ... show more

  • Excellent value for quality rugged speakers that sound great for their price.
These are the second pair of these I've bought. The first ones lasted about 4 years being played at super high volume the entire time. For the price you cant beat them as far as sound quality ande loudness, although they do need an amp to get a good sound. The new ones sound great as the first ones. If you want decent priced quality speakers , then I recommend these for sure. ... show more

Put these in my work truck. It has a Sony cd player maybe 20 watts. Even with base turned all the way down it crackles and is distorted. Smh
