I gave this five stars before, but I love this SO MUCH I had to come update and actually give a review, but also add some photos. I started to crochet beginning of march (it's now mid August) and I quickly learned I liked to fix my yarn as it got all wonky, enter this bad boy. It's about the size of one of my Bernat Blanket yarns that it caked. I would say it's small, and if you need it smaller, I suppose you could unscrew the tensioner and store it separately. It has a thingy that grips onto my desk and clamps down (words are hard, i'm writing a review so just go with me here) and it's REALLY stable. I used the instructions to initially set it up but decided to figure out how to wind cakes on my own outside of their instructions. (It works great and it's super easy). I take the holder off and leave a tail of a few inches to wrap around the bottom of the holder to use as my center pull and I KNOW where that is. I tried using crochet markers but found I didn't need them at all if I did this. The device will stop if it feels remotely stuck, just turn it off and turn it back on. This this is actually under stated for how well it handles yarn. I believe when I purchased it, it said it did 7 ounces. This bad boy handled a full Caron Blossom cake (8 ounces) and for fun I tried a bernat blanket cake and IT DID THAT TOO! It did stop a few time and towards the end I had to remove the yarn from the tensioner, but I am gobsmacked. I WISH I COULD SAY NO NOTES... but alas, I cannot. ONE NOTE. When you do 6.0, could you change nothing but make the dial on the same side that it clamps? Or put it next to the power connection? Having to give this thing the reach around carefully while not disturbing the winding is slightly cumbersome... but I WILL CONTINUE to give this the reach around if it keeps making these delicious yarn cakes that are visually pleasing (and keeps it all contained!)

Was going to purchase a manual one, but bought this electric one based on reviews. I expected it to be battery operated, but it's a plug in model, which limits where you can use it. I have a large yarn swift, so when using that, I'll need to use an extension cord. It was pretty easy to set up, and the speed is adjustable. At high speeds, the ball of yarn tends to fly off the spool unpredictably. I was using a loose wind, and this might not be an issue with a tighter wind. Also, storage is a bit of an issue. To put it back in the box, you need to take it apart again. Overall, it does do the job.

I’m really impressed with this automatic yarn ball winder! It’s compact enough that it doesn’t take up much space, but it feels sturdy and well made. The tension is strong and consistent, and it winds my yarn into neat, usable balls much faster than doing it by hand. It’s been a great little time-saver for my crocheting projects, especially when I have several skeins to wind. Easy to use, convenient, and works exactly as I hoped. Definitely a worthwhile addition to my crafting setup!

This yarn winder is really handy and makes winding yarn so much easier and faster, and I honestly think it deserves 5 stars! It was very simple to set up on my table, and once I started using it, I was surprised at how smooth it worked without tangling the yarn at all. The construction feels strong and steady, so I don’t worry about it slipping or breaking, which makes it very durable. It quickly turns skeins into neat, compact balls, and I love how much time it saves me compared to winding by hand—it makes my knitting and crocheting so much more fun because my yarn is always organized. As someone who crochets almost daily, this yarn winder has been a big time saver. It’s lightweight, doesn’t take up much space, and was really easy to set up straight out of the box. Within a few minutes, I had my first skein wound into a neat, center pull ball. The motion is smooth and steady，no tangles or sudden snags like I’ve experienced with cheaper winders.One thing I appreciate is how sturdy it feels once clamped to the table.
