  • Wii and a Karaoke machine live again!
Style: 2Port Component to HDMI Converter
Had to replace my 12 year old TV with a newer one that only had HDMI inputs and my old devices (Nintendo Wii and a Malata Karaoke machine) only had component or composite outputs. This was the perfect solution and worked right out of the box to connect both the Wii and karaoke machine component inputs to the HDMI port on the TV. The bonus is that this little device remembers input and power state! So I can leave input 2 (Wii) selected and it remembers it across power cycles so nobody has to hit a button to change inputs constantly and I can just leave the power on! The device is in all metal case, feels hefty, and came with a 500ma USB C power brick and an HDMI cable. It seems solidly built and generates no heat at all (not surprised with only a 500ma power supply). For my purpose, it worked flawlessly! Only wish they had a combination device with 2 Component inputs and a 2 port HDMI switcher - that would have been a perfect future proof device. The same manufacturer does have other ones that have two composite inputs with a 2 port HDMI switcher but composite inputs have poor video quality over component inputs if you are willing to live with that. ... show more

  • It’s Alright
Style: 2Port AV to HDMI Converter
It’s easy to use and hassle free, not to mention cheap for what you get. The aspect ratio switch is a godsend for those with a monitor who can’t stand a stretched image look. While it does its purpose well and I think it’s probably great for most people to use, this tiny device does come with a few annoyances. First I’ll mention the cable direction where you have cables coming out of one end and the opposite end of the device and it’s not very compact once you have it plugged in. The next topic to talk about is of course the image quality. The resolution as others have mentioned doesn’t look to be 480p or 480i and it’s less defined than watching the same device plugged in directly to a tv. There is some screen tearing or what looks to be like screen tearing on the horizontal axis which can be somewhat bothersome and there is a bit of ghosting when images pan around which makes the overall motion feel not too fluid only in certain cases. One of my biggest gripes however is the way it forces you to use low black levels if you chose the 4:3 aspect ratio because the black levels will be raised on the sides of the screen as shown in the photos if set to normal or non-low. This wouldn’t be a massive problem if the rest of the color reproduction was good but since this is RCA it has a limited color gamut so the low black level option tends to crush blacks and make the image very dark. So with a 4:3 aspect ratio your best bet is to use normal black levels in order for the image quality not to suffer. Also the image this device was putting out of my PS2 was not centered. It was slightly aligned to the right but it actually wasn’t a massive issue once you’re focused on what’s on the screen. To finish this review on a positive note, I did not have any issues with sound and the audio levels were actually very clear with very little buzzing which is to be expected with RCA but the device did a great job handling that aspect. All in all for the price you pay it’s solid. Yes it has drawbacks but in order to remove those annoyances for those who care you have to spend 10x more and this little device is essentially the baseline when it comes to RCA to HDMI converters. I’ll actually use it and keep it as a backup once I’ve decided to spend more on a product which fixes my list of cons but I can see this being a very solid product for most people. ... show more

  • Works with PS2 and Nintendo Wii
Style: 2Port AV to HDMI Converter
Nothing really bad to say about this. The power switch is a good touch, but I'm not a fan of the cord to power it. It's a preference only because space around my entertainment center is pretty tight and can cause an issue, but if space isn't a big deal, then it won't be a big deal to you. The buttons to switch inputs or aspect ratios are nice and "clicky" feeling. I tried using the 16:9 aspect for my PS2, but wasn't a fan. Besides, you don't play old school games that are in a 4:3 format originally and try to warp them to 16:9...it doesn't work that way The Wii originally used RCA cables for 480p(?) quality, and the optional component cables to bump it to 720p. Maybe it was 720p originally and went to 1080p. Whatever it is, the 16:9 aspect ratio for the Wii is just fine and I don't have any issues with the lower 480/720/whatever picture quality. I'd go ahead and grab it. ... show more

  • Sometimes good- often not that great.
Style: 2Port AV to HDMI Converter
The picture quality is not consistent- often the image contains noise, or color artifacting. Which is a real shame, because this thing has so much I love about it- I love that it is a switcher and an upscaler. I love that it lets you control the aspect ratio. I love the simple interface and low-profile form-factor. That said, the video quality has ranged from "good" to "below-average" on this thing. Using mostly old VHS tapes and laserdiscs as my test, this thing often produces a lot of noise in the image- usually it looks like bright green or yellow dots, especially in black or dark areas. Worse, at times there are bands of color artifacts- usually casting a sort of green or blue tint into large areas of the screen. On the other hand, the up-rezing is quite impressive! This has produced some of the sharpest results I've seen from old VHS and Laserdisc footage. When things are going well, the image is clear and fun to watch on an HDTV! So overall, I'll still give this 3 stars- mostly because the results, while unpredictable, are still watchable, and the fact that it's got the 4:3 aspect ratio, and is also a switcher, still helps it earn its value, IMO. But if consistent and accurate picture quality is a priority for you, look elsewhere. ... show more
