I really like that it included TWO batteries and the card for storing pictures. Pictures transferred easily to computer. Also huge bonus that it is very lightweight and fits nicely in small hands while providing a good grip. Big plus that it actually came with GOOD INSTRUCTIONS that were printed in a decent size brochure that you could actually read! Good camera for a good price. ... show more

  • Great Little Pocket Camera for Casual Pictures and Videos
Color: Black
I’m happy to rate this little camera 5-stars for what it is and the many things it can do well. It’s small, inexpensive, easy to use, and can make really nice pictures and videos. It’s also jam-packed with incredible technology and features including multiple creative modes, time-lapse photography and video, a built-in flash for still photos which doubles as a continuous light for shooting video, and lots more. The package comes with everything you need, including two batteries, a charger, a 32GB microSD storage card (which you can upgrade if you need a lot more storage, say, for a long vacation), a wrist strap and carrying case, lens cover, a USB cable for computer image transfer, and even an HDMI cable that lets you show your pictures and videos on a TV or monitor. In effect, the HDMI connection lets the camera act like a little multi-media viewer to put everything you’ve captured up on the big screen. That all adds up to an incredible package, ready to go right out of the box. Of course, you should understand that this is not a professional camera. My best camera and suite of specialty lenses together cost almost 200 times more than this little gem. This camera doesn’t support interchangeable lenses, and the built-in lens doesn’t provide optical zoom. You can, though, zoom in to get a closer view of your subject by zooming digitally, letting the camera take a smaller, central part of your picture and stretch it to fill the entire frame. The camera’s native resolution is good enough that the first few zooming steps are OK, but the closer you zoom, the fuzzier the picture will become. Still, the digital zoom works well and it’s one of the main reasons this camera is so reasonably priced. It’s intended for fun and casual shooting, and it does an amazingly good job in that arena. Another thing I like is that the lens is protected with a built-in ultraviolet (UV) filter and also has standard 52mm threads so you can screw in other filters, like a circular polarizer. I always use a polarizer for outdoor shots because you can rotate the filter to darken the sky, making clouds pop and look dramatic, and also cancel out annoying mirror-like specular reflections from glass and water – just the way polarizing sunglasses block glare. You can pick up a 52mm circular polarizer on Amazon for about $10. The resolution required for 4K video is just under 8 million pixels (8MP), which is the native resolution of the image sensor inside the camera. For this reason, I recommend taking most still pictures in the 7MP wide format mode because it uses the whole sensor to best advantage. Anything higher than this works by extrapolating extra pixels the actual electronic sensor never actually recorded. While we tend to think that more pixels are always better, in all likelihood you’re not going to be displaying your pictures on anything better than a 4K display or printing them larger than, say, 11 x 14, or even 16x20 inches. For those dimensions, the native, nearly 8MP resolution still does a great job. The first digital cameras I bought many years ago only had 2MP and then, with the later model, 4MP, and the pictures I took with them still look fantastic. It’s the same with video. This camera can shoot in 4K, but if you subject is moving a lot, or if you’re panning and moving the camera around, the video can show motion blur. We think the higher resolution of 4K is always better, with its grid of 3840x2160 pixels, but in most cases I’d choose a better quality of video shot at a lower resolution, usually full HD at 1920x1080 pixels, if it gave me a more rock-solid picture. You can easily experiment and see which settings give you the best results for your kind of videos. Once you turn the camera on, it comes up in still picture mode. One press of the little “Mode” button on the back right side of the camera switches to video mode. The next press takes you to playback, and a final press takes you into settings. One more press and you start the cycle again. In picture, video, and playback modes, pressing the “Menu” button brings up a visual menu of special settings. These are too numerous to describe here, but you can freely experiment with them. For example, I took a picture of these beautiful orchids with the default settings and then again, selecting the backlight mode, since extra light was pouring in through the windows behind the orchids, making them look too dark. The backlight mode corrected for this and the orchids are much better exposed. It's the same with faces if there's light streaming in behind them. I'm also including a picture of some of the flowers outside my front door to show off the excellent color rendition possible with the camera. The primroses were shot using the default settings, by the way - just point and shoot. I mostly work with portraits and landscapes, but these flowers around my house were handy for illustrating the camera and features. There are so, so many special settings you can play with – or, if you prefer, you can simply ignore them and let the camera do its thing. But sometimes, an old-timey sepia tone special effect or even black and white can spice things up! If you’re a serious photographer, or perhaps a committed photography student, you might want to hold out for a more expensive camera, even a used model. In that case, you should plan to spend at least 8 to 15 times more than the price of this camera. But if you can be satisfied with a super-portable, feature-packed camera for casual photography and video, this camera is a great choice. And it can be a great gift for kids just starting out (way better than the little Kodak roll film cameras and their single-use, exploding flash bulbs I started with!), or even older folks who just want a simple, easy-to-use picture taking machine. As I said at the start, I can heartily recommend this little camera for the no-fuss pictures it can take with very little effort, and the panoply of special modes and effects hidden "under the hood" for the more adventurous, creative types. Happy shooting! ... show more
