This is another weird and wonderful one from Symcode. Their core business seems to be buying everything barcode, point of sale or label related available in the back alleys of Shenzhen and importing the best finds to the US, and I'm mostly here for it. This is a full point of sale system - basically a massive Android phablet glued to a card reader and receipt printer. The box declares it "The future of POS System", and I'm not quite sure I'd go that far, but it definitely looks more modern and up to date than a lot of the Verifone terminals that look straight out of the 2000s floating around. (The box also has an "MSDS" label, which is hilarious because I don't see an included materials safety datasheet for it, and I also don't understand why that would be a consideration for a portable electronic device.) This wouldn't be a symcode product if it came with a lick of documentation, and true to form you get a little 4"x8" card with some basic specs (6400mAh battery, most notably) and some wrong or confusing information (it claims 58 or 80mm wide receipt paper support, but the interior definitely only supports 58, and a note that mini USB RS232 can somehow be used for firmware updates). Fortunately, setting up and using this thing is really easy - the front just hinges down to reveal the easy to load paper compartment and there's not a lot else to it. This thing is BIG. Like, bigger than you think. You could definitely carry it tableside for service at a restaurant but your servers are not going to be clipping it to their belt. It feels ideal for use in a food truck where you might need to hand the system to guests but where a larger screen would be an asset. The front has a tap-to-pay NFC reader and a bar code reader with 2D support, plus a "welcome" logo you could theoretically sticker over with your brand. Notably, there is no chip or swipe reader - this is NFC or bust. That probably works in 2026 but be aware you may run into trouble with a few older cards - I have a couple in my wallet that still aren't chip enabled. Software wise, this is a full Android tablet once turned on. It's somewhere in the middle on the perfomrance scale - not the worst I've ever used but you can definitely see occasional lag, so you won't want to do much demanding on it. It should be fine for POS usage. Google Play is present and working so that's nice and should allow you to install your app of choice, and Bluetooth is present as well so you can connect an external card reader if your preferred software doesn't support the internal one. This does have a cell radio, but doesn't seem to support eSIM so you'll need a physical one. There are two SIM slots on the undersaide of the device, plus a removable battery compartment. To access them, you use the provided guitar pick to pry off the info plate (model number is MJ-NB57, by the way) to access the slots. There's also a JST-style 4 pin connector which is presumably the firmware update UART port mentioned earlier. The built in self test worked for both the NFC, bar code and printer feature. The only issue I noticed is that the print quality was a little spotty on the printer at first, but that broke in in over time as the heating element wears in. (tip - run "printer aging test" and then try setting print density to 130% and black threshold to 20-30%.) It's definitely capable of printing logos, barcodes, etc and is not limited just to plain text. Some specs: the CPU is an SC9863A at 1.6Ghz, the screen is 1280x800 240ppi, and the OS is Android 12 NB57_SC_V1.0.2_B251024.183242. The software is mostly clear but it comes with "Loyverse Point of Sale", a free POS app, and - bizarrely - a Chilean tax app called e-Boleta. Who knows. Anyway, I really like the hardware here. Even setting aside the POS angle, if you need a cell connected device with a built in bar code scanner, NFC reader and printer, this is a pretty great package. Just don't expect much guidance setting it up and bring your patience for getting everything set up and configured.
