This is longgg, but for my friends out there with oily lids, sensitive teary eyes, and the desire for long, thick lashes without the fear of looking in the mirror at 1:00PM and seeing a raccoon staring back at you, BEAR WITH ME BECAUSE I CRACKED THE CODE. So I used to love L’Oréal Lash Tubes, but the last few that I’ve bought have been super clumpy and dried out after only using them a handful of times. :( I’ve been on the hunt for a similar mascara (one that adds volume and length while reliably smudge-proof and/or waterproof). After LOTS of trial and error, here’s what I landed on + links to the other products mentioned as well. 1.) Curl eyelashes with a regular curler 2.) Apply L’Oréal’ lash primer 3.) Follow with one coat of 4D Silk Fiber Lash Mascara 4.) Heated curler 5.) Apply second coat of mascara 6.) Heated curler 7.) When needed, use lash separator comb throughout, and apply primer and mascara in a zigzag back and forth motion As for the heated curler, it’s not a necessary buy—it works fine and adds more of a curl but nothing life changing. I have a few lashes in the outer corners of my eyes that grow downwards and often irritate my eyes that I can’t always fix with a regular curler. The heated curler is just more precise and def helps with that— but of course, be super careful when using it. Anyways, just buy the d*mn mascara, it's awesome. Hi. Don’t usually go all-in writing a review but this is worth the time for me. I have lashes, they’re there. I also have extensive experience with makeup application and I’m an artist. I’ve done lash-inserts, fake lashes and also used thousands of different formulas of mascara. However for this review ...I used nothing on my lashes other than this product. As you can plainly see...the “presence” it gives the eye is outstanding. No inserts; no curling (as it weakens the hairs and tends to sometimes also pull them out)...what you get after one application and then a few reapplications (after the initial one semi-dries) is really outstanding. I do not like the brush, but I’m used to the Tarte (Maneater) brush and it’s the best...so I’m tempted to add pictures using another brush in this formula. *THIS IS PERFECT FOR SUMMER BECAUSE IT WON’T budge. I used Softymo speedy cleansing oil by Kose’ to remove. DO NOT THINK MICELLAR WATER OR ANY NON-oil REMOVER WILL WORK-they won’t. Which also means that your pillows, his clothes and the sun won’t budge this mascara. I gave it four out of five stars in the removal area because it literally almost doesn’t come off! Must be done with care, it’s a forever-stay-put mascara! I will post another picture using the brush from Tarte-Maneater...the second picture...now, you MUST be able to apply mascara correctly to avoid any clumping which is why I think they provided the brush they did...but it was a crazy drastic result when I used another brush.     • Overall, pretty good
I do like this mascara, although there are good and not-so-good things about it. First, the good: - Very volumizing. Really makes your lashes look thick and full. - Easy to build coverage to your liking. - Smudge-proof- I can wear all day without getting the "raccoon eyes" that I've experienced, even with luxury brands. I have long lashes that are, unfortunately, fair in color so I like to use a dark mascara to highlight them. Most other mascaras will leave marks both above and below my eyes from my eyelashes touching those areas, but this mascara stays in place. Now for the "not-so-good": - While it's easy to build coverage, it tends to clump so a lash separator is needed to keep from having the spiky look - it's a bit difficult to remove, even with a good makeup remover - the brush is BIG. Very thick and full, which helps with coverage, but it's impossible to get into the inner and outer corners of your eye without getting it on your skin. If you think of it in terms of a paintbrush, this would be the wide brush that you use to fill in rather than the thin brush you'd use for detail/trim painting - it dries very quickly on your lashes, so you have to work quickly to build coverage and try to avoid clumping Overall, it's a decent mascara. ... show more

    • Formula changed, quality is poor
I’ve bought this mascara for over a year and recommended it to everyone. The last few purchases it seems the formula has changed. This most recent bottle was completely dried out and unusable. Will not be buying ever again.

4D Silk Fiber Lash Mascara is everything advertised and more. I admit it. I am a mascara snob. I have tried every brand in each formulation. Once I forked over $60 for a trendy department-store brand. I wound up. owning the world's priciest black goo. Then on a whim I ordered 4D Silk Fiber Lash Mascara. At $12.99 even the price was perfect. (I live on disability and budget to the penny.) When my package arrived, I expected to be disappointed. Instead, I had the best make-up jolt of my life. Quite simply, the 4D Silk Fiber Lash Mascara delivers everything the small-family firm promises: Long lashes Thicker Lashes Voluminous Lashes Easy to use and remove completely What's their secret? The silk fibers stay on your lashes. They do not clump together under your eyes. Nor will they flake off during your busy day. I bought the black waterproof version because I live in South Florida. The super-high humidity makes waterproof mascara a must. My 4D Silk Fiber Lash Mascara stays put. This Mascara is great but the reason I give it a 3 star is because the bottle doesn't always come with the skimmer for the brush so you end up getting a mascara that can't be used.

    • My New Favorite
I have tried many mascaras over the years, most get one use and in the “no” box. I live in a hot, humid climate, have very oily skin and extremely hooded eyes so I need a bulletproof mascara to keep it from smudging. This little gem does the trick. It goes on smoothly with no clumps. It almost looks like fake lashes! And it stays on until you take it off. Now for the cons: It is not actually waterproof. But personally I like the level of waterproof because it takes quite a bit of moisture to get it off. This makes it not really easy to remove, but soap and water will do it. The other slight negative is that a tube of this is gone pretty quickly. I want to say a month. This too is not necessarily bad because it isn’t the best idea to keep using the same tube of mascara for prolonged time. I am a solid customer now on my third tube. ... show more

I've been using this mascara for 2 years. What I love best about this mascara is the wand and how it keeps your lashes from clumping and adds length to them. It doesn't smear or smudge. I wish it was waterproof but it comes off easily and doesn't leave a mess I have very fine eyelashes and this gets all of them and makes my eyelashes look thicker and longer. The mascara comes in a little suede pouch that protects it in your purse. Perfect! ... show more
