  • Not the same as Festool, but very close
Is a 60% savings worth it to you? It depends because these are not exactly equal. I'm a long time user of Festool track saws and have replaced many splinter guards over the years. Let's begin, in terms of specs they're nearly identical in size, with this guard they give you a couple inches more than Festool (198" vs 196.85"). In terms of feel and composition they're nearly identical. Note, I've tried using other aftermarket splinter guards to save money. This one seems closer to Festool quality. The failure point IMO is the adhesive. Festool uses a double sided white tape that's removable and reinstallable using a heat gun or hair dryer (which extends the life because you reapply and then make a new cut with your saw), whereas this product uses a clear glue. That glue fastens well to the track saw, however I do have some lift on the ends (that can happen with Festool too if you don'r clean with acetone and apply in a warmer environment). At this point I'm not going to rip off the guard simply to see if I can reapply it. I'll try and update this review later. Another note, I recommend keeping your tracks in a warmer area for storage because the cold affects the adhesive in colder climate (I'm in Michigan) at least for the aftermarket. I'm keeping one track out side just to test this out and I'll try and update this later. I've had had strips simply fall off with gravity in the winter. In summary, my initial impression is good and it appears to be on the higher end of aftermarket, however I suspect this is a one time use guard based on experience. In the past I've been able to get 1-3 reuses from a Festool guard, so in terms of price they're the same. If this indeed can be reused and the cold does not impact the adhesive this represents a tremendous value...time will tell. Even if you're not able to reuse I think this is pretty good (a small margin in value). If allows me to make the same precision cuts. UPDATE: I conducted a small test using this product and a Festool's on an aluminum substrate. I cut two identical 1" pieces and attached them to an acetoned prepped surface. For each brand I applied one piece directly without any contamination. For another set I rubbed my finger slightly (small oil transfer) on the surface and attached. It's been in the low teens (Farinheit) here for a few days. I tried to flick the pieces off with my finger. The only piece that was knocked off easily was this product, THAT had slight contamination. All other stood firmly. This confirms, the glue is the weak point, but with proper surface prep and not contamination ensures the best bond. ... show more

  • If your track edge goes bad, this is a perfect replacement for my Festool tracks.
This was a great replacement for my Festool track. I had a hard time taking off the old plastic on the track, and I suggest using some alcohol to clean up the track before you put it back on. It was a pretty easy installation overall. Pull off the adhesive side, and then cut it to length. Once it is on, you will need to set it up specifically for your saw and blade if you want a perfect edge. Place the track on a spoil board or spoil foam for example and slowly plunge the blade to cut the remaining plastic perfectly flush. Done. Great item. ... show more

  • Splinter free cuts
I have a few festool rails I use splinter strips often on and this was a slightly different profile compared to the others I have used in the past. It don’t fully sit flat on the track as there’s a size difference in the adhesive area but it does still work. It sits a little proud but I don’t see it causing any major issues but time will tell if it forces the adhesive to peel. ... show more

  • It works on my Makita Saw Guide Rail.
This track saw "guide rail" splinter guard worked as advertised. the durometer is slightly harder than the original black guide rail material but works well in any case. I thought the transparent edge might be a challenge to put on target but if anything, it helps to see the marks if they happen to be underneath the edge a bit. When you trim the edge for the first time, use a fine tooth blade. I started to trim it with a 16 tooth blade and it was a little ragged at the edge. It might have been ok with the 16 tooth blade if I had wood to back up the edge when trimming. ... show more

  • Good, inexpensive alternative for track saw splinter guard
While this splinter guard is marketed for the Festool track saw, I have a Makita track saw. I like to have a spare splinter guard on hand since they are effectively a consumable--they do get chewed up and that limits both the effectiveness as a splinter guard as well as the accuracy in determining exactly where the saw blade will cut. I haven't used this yet on my track because the current splinter guard is still good, but in comparing this version to the ones I've used previously, I see no reason why this wouldn't work. The only difference is that this is a clear rubber/plastic vs. the typical black rubber. While I think I prefer the black for more of a contrast against the item I'm cutting, I think that's splitting hairs. The price provides a good value given that this is enough to do at least two or three separate rails. Once I put this to the true test in use, I'll update my review accordingly. ... show more

  • Worked on my festool tracks
Enough to do both my festool tracks. Tough plastic with adhesive strip. The entire strip started to peel off when I started to apply it. The backing is a bit hard to get started. The adhesive is good but the ends are still peeling back on mine after a few uses. Easy to apply but not easy to cut with a knife. I had to use scissors to cut. Cut prior to applying so you don’t have to peel it back to cut. Decent quality for the price ... show more

  • Nice thicker track saw guard
I got this hoping it would fit the Ryobi track saw guide but unfortunately it does not. It’s thicker than what the track for the Ryobi seems to take. The guard seems easy to apply and has a good sticky back. Overall, for the price this seems like a good replacement option.
