I've had fun both putting this together and riding it around. I mounted this onto a 26 inch Huffy 10 speed mountain bike. The motor bracket is not compatible with the frame of the bicycle. If it were wider and had an adjustable slot instead of holes on the top end I think it would fit better. But it is not a problem with a trip to the hardware store. Buy a small pack of bolts, a flat bracket, and with some drilling, an extension bracket is complete. Everything else mounted fine. Got a battery, some pipe hangers to mount it, an enclosure for the electronics, and a typical bike speedometer. All cost about $400, including the used bike from Goodwill. I'm pleased with the quality of the components overall, despite the motor mounting bracket compatibility. Be careful on what battery you go with. I'm not confident with most of the brands out on the market. Mine has been ok, but the item page disappeared from Amazon. The 450W unit runs at 18 to 22 MPH maximum, depending on what conditions you're facing. The fastest I can get it with motor and pedaling has been 24 MPH. Motor has enough torque I don't need to pedal to get started or at all unless I feel like it. Terrain hasn't been a problem. I tend to leave the bike in high gear at all times, occasionally shifting the front derailleur up and down. The throttle thumb switch feels uncomfortable on the first long trip but you get used to it. Noise level is not bad. Other people will be able to hear you coming and going, but it isn't going to be heard indoors.

I installed this on a 24" kids MTB. Like others, I had to modify the triangular bracket to get it to work on this frame. I had to heat it with a torch and hammer out the bends in it to make it flat. It's hard to make a truly one-size-fits-all kit, so I was expecting to have to do some work like this. I am running mine off two Makita 18V drill batteries in serial, providing 36V to the motor. This works very well. The bike will take my son up some steep hills, and even up our driveway which is a 13° grade with no pedaling. The top speed right now is around 18MPH. I've ordered the smaller 25-tooth sprocket to increase the top speed (though this might make it unable to handle the steep driveway without pedal-assist.) Overall I'm happy with this kit, and you will not find a better value when it comes to e-bike conversion. It's a little loud, but the sound is honestly pretty badass, and a little motor noise is good for safety.

This kit requires a considerable amount of tinkering to get it tuned in just right. If you want a straight up and down “plug and play” ebike kit, go for a hub motor kit or a mid-drive kit. Either of those are a few turns of a wrench and simple wiring setup before riding. This kit requires a lot of fine tuning. If you aren’t confident in your skills in thinking outside the box, you might not be able to get this installed! Check out the photo I posted with this review. I have hacked, bent, and twisted the mounting bracket, and replaced hardware to get mine lined up with the rear sprocket. If you can’t handle that, don’t get this kit. If you can, be aware of one thing: it’s a great kit! It is a brushed motor, so it hums louder than a standard ebike, but it has been a fantastic kit for me! I think I’m working on a year riding with this kit, and I’m a daily biker. It’s a great cheap solution to paying $1000+ for an ebike! Noisy? A little. Do I care? Nope. Great kit for the price! One pro tip: replace the freewheel with a very high quality freewheel before you install. You’ll save yourself the hassle of finding out that the one that it comes with is pretty trashy.

This is a game changer for anyone looking for an upgrade. The ride has been great and it's wonderful to have a little help up hill. It's given me more and it has increased my riding length. Being able to enjoy everything there is to bicycling and double or triple the length is awesome. So why 3 stars. 1. The mount that is provided is not made as a "one fit all". I had to flatten the mount to level the chain with a hammer. Not the best way of doing things but the mount is made with steel and i don't have any household tools to bend it any other way. 2. Due to vibration, if you mount this as is (after making adjustments), it slips down and will cause the chain to become loose. That is bad. If it causes a wheel lock, once you're top speed, there could be an accident. I have personally experienced the chain coming off the sprocket due to the vibration (no wheel lock since it fell and wrapped itslef around the outside of the axle connection where it meets the outer bolt). 3. Due to the mount not fitting as it should and the slipping effect, I had to create a shime to fit into the single bottom portion (where the mount meets the axle of the bicycle) of the mount gap to keep it "up" in position. This is still in the testing stage as I am using a hard plastic as my shim. 4. Due to the mount not fitting, I was not able to use the one of the mounting bracket holes and am using an electrical "U" shape bracket to connect to one of the lower holes of the mount where it meets the bottom of the fork. 5. There is speed loss due to heat. This occurs after about 5 minutes of riding at top speed. Not too bad of a loss but 2-3 mph does make a difference. 6. The heel of my shoe hits ths motor if I don't position my footing correctly. I have an adult bicycle. If your foot is larger than a 9 (U.S measurement), you'll definitely run into problems there as well. 7. The battery meter on the thumb throttle doesn't read correctly. As long as it gets power, you'll see three dots lit up like Christmas. I have a battery meter on the battery so it doesn't bother me. 8. I had to use a larger washer to keep the mount, where it meets the bicycle axle, in place as the opening on the mount is larger than my screw on my bicycle. 8. Forgot to mention, I had to buy additional screws, washers, etc. at out local hardware store (multiple trips due to the shear number of trials before getting it to where i am at now). Besides all of the bad. - I topped out at 25 mph on a straight without an uphill slope. That changes with an uphill grade and I will get 21 mph (depending on the grade of the slop) and when the motor starts to heat up. If I'm peddling, I can achieve the 25 mph (for smaller uphill grades) - I have been testing this for about a week, with a lot of full throttle beating, and it has held up. My furthest trip has been a round trip of 7 miles total which includes some really sharp uphills with full throttle about 75% of the trip. - materials are good. The chain has a a quick link which makes adjusting the chain very easy (all you need is a pair of needle nose plyers). The motor casing, from what the eye can see, is durable. - it makes a low whirring noise which sounds rather pleasing and not loud enough to bother at all. - you can feel the extra umph of power that it delivers right away. I set my gears (mtn bike) on the lowest one possible for the most/largest rotation possible while using the motor as something like "pedal assist" going up hill and it doesn't put a lot of stress on my legs. The only time I hear it struggle is when I'm climbing a very steep up hill. It took a lot of time and effort to get to where I'm at with this ebike motor kit and definitely some mind boggling troubleshooting. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who isn't mechanically inclined, smart enough to troubleshoot outside of the box or plainly don't want to troubleshoot. If you're a DIY enthusiasts, then it's something fun to tinker with. Edit: i run this kit with a 48v 20ah battery. Edit: unfortunately I can't find a way to keep the chain from falling off. This puts anyone in a dangerous situation. If the chain happened to get caught in the spokes at top speed it could be a very disastrous outcome. As much as I like the quick speed and the torque this provides over hub motors, I'm going to bite the bullet and replace it with a hub motor and trash this DIY.

Cheap AF, the 2 of split lock washers popped out installing the wheel sprocket.... and there are literally no instructions that ship with this. No thread locker on the motor sprocket nut, and that was half the reason the woodruff key on mine shattered. The light connections seem to be 40v, which is a difficult voltage for lights.******* Your whole experience rides on a bracket, and you'd think that the triangular nature would be forgiving, but it also needs to line up for chain tension and alignment. I had to hammer the bracket flat, pad the distance with washers, buy longer bolts, and the one side I just gave up on and used a pipe clamp. Engineering wise, they could generalize the bracket install with longer bolts, extra holes in the bracket for mounting option, maybe throw in a pack of washers to fine tune the alignments, or just design the whole thing holistically to be adjustable. Oh, and document the electronic I/Os, like *what they are*, and volt/amp ratings. The product works at the bare minimum level, you will feel that minimalism in during the install and afterward. Edit: One of the springs in the brushed motor was crushed down all the way, the brush stuck at the bottom of its track, and the copper wire lead to that was fully disconnected without any evidence of solder (or arc) on it. It was probably defective from the get go. I believe this led to premature failure of some of the voltage regulation for the lights... this thing really, really, really, really sucks. Also, back to the theme of bad metallurgy, a screw on the motor casing stripped in like 1 second edit2: Also on the same tired ass theme of bad metal, the freewheel just ate it and basically functions in reverse, it only spins the chain when I pedal but not when I throttle.

Works! Difficult to put together, but will work with a Walmart, etc. standard 26" bike. In fact you could buy a used bike from Goodwill, etc. for $20, and put this on and it will work fine if it's a 26" bike, but you might have to buy a new chain. This kit doesn't include a battery, and I suggest a standard ebike battery. Thanks to EV cars, the price of ebike batteries is about 1/4 the cost they used to be 5-10 years ago when I built my first ebike.

Was an easy install with only slight modification to bracket. Remember this kit has to fit as many bikes as possible which are all designed a little differently from one another the trade off being it cant fit many if any perfectly out of the box don't be frustrated if you have to mod bracket slightly for proper fit. There are some really helpful DIY videos on YouTube to help you out I strongly recommend watching before installing motor kit. By the way has good starting torque and tops out about 20 mph. great value I recommend it.

I'm a full-time machinist and welder and I bought this kit as a starting place for converting my wife's vintage bicycle to electric. The basic kit would work to convert this bike to electric, but as with any on size fits all kit It did leave something to be desired. I used it primarily as a starting point for a motor, gearbox, gear ratios, controller etc. if you're a skilled fabricator, I suggest scrolling down and buying the pieces of this kit that you want, they are listed in the ad. If you're an ambitious DIY trying to save a buck on your conversion, this would work just fine for 90% of bicycles out there. My number one observation is that the sprocket that mounts to the wheel is rubber mounted and therefore cannot be perfectly aligned. But, you can get it. Pretty damn close and for the price point they did a nice job. The 450 w motor has nice acceleration and a brisk top speed. I highly recommend taking the cover off the gearbox, packing it with grease and sealing it with RTV. It takes a lot of the noise out of it. For those who are extremely mechanically inclined, note, you can use almost any ebike throttle if you swap out the hall effect sensor to a linear 49E hall effect sensor. I didn't like the one that came with this kit so I ordered a different one. Just to discover there is virtually no standardization in e-bikes.
