In bad weather, rain, wind and snow they are protected from above and on two sides. The ground is fairly dry and they can stay in their run. Not transparent. You can not see through them. I bought them for my chicken run and you can not see the chickens. The string for the tarps rips when you tighten them. No way are they usable. I doubt that they will make it more than one year. They covered the run nicely but I'll replace them next year. I doubt they will last more than one winter. They are kinda brittle and I see them weathering quickly. They are a good price and hopefully they do the job this winter. I bought this tarp to cover my outdoor fountain and protect it from catching leaves and rain. The tarp plastic is a good thickness. The edges are doubled to reinforce, with a thin raffia cord running along inside on the bottom fold. This makes the edges easy to grab onto. The corner grommets have black plastic reinforcement. Raffia cording is also included for each grommet. This made it simple to wrap around the fountain with this first use, but I'm not sure the white raffia will wear well through winter weather.
