I was so excited to buy these for my loved one, as soon as I took one out of the box the toxic odor was off the charts. Everyone in the house started coughing. I had to put them outside. An oil got on my hands that smelled so bad and wouldn't wash off. Customer service was pretty nice, I will say that. I contacted them and they said that it was from a coating put on them and that washing and airing them out should help. It took me several hours to wash all of them there are so many tiny parts it was a tedious chore. I expect to go through something like that if I have bought something used, but I bought these new and didn't expect to have to do hours of hard work first. Washing them did diminish the odor on the stands. But the feet are made of something toxic and actually make you unwell when you breathe near them. I have so far soaked them overnight in baking soda and vinegar and they are still just as bad. I am thinking the feet will be unusable. It will cost another 40 bucks or more to replace them. Kind of a disappointment. I have purchased other music equipment and not once did any have odors like this. I am pretty sure that it wouldn't have cost a lot extra to use something a little less toxic in the production of these. Update: It has been over 15 days since receiving these. As mentioned I tried everything to get the feet to stop off gassing by soaking them for days and now having put them outside to air out for about 13 days. They smell exactly the same as when I opened the box. I was told they smell like this due to a coating, but there's no way that's the case. It has to be what they were made of. They should offer a discount on these or give partial refunds to unsuspecting buyers who bought these not knowing they would off gas like this. It might not be a big deal if your drum is an a well ventilated space or garage. But for those of us who have our set indoors it's a no go. Not cool at all to sell something like this. But the stands themselves are pretty decent. I haven't got around to buying new feet for these as they will cost almost what I paid for the stands, just unacceptable. In the mean time I am using felt and duct tape. It works but it's definitely not what I paid for or what was advertised. On top of that you are going to have to work in order to use these by cleaning them for hours. You might be better off finding something used. It would save you a lot of time, and effort and keep you from breathing in who knows what.
