I actually got these for shaping wood putty when restoring damaged trim work. I can't tell you how they'd work for clay (I'm guessing pretty well) but they're great for shaping (and a little of carving) the two-part wood putty. With a little sanding and some paint, no one will ever tell the difference between original and repair. Plus they were easy to clean up and put away, ready for the next repair. Worked for 8 uses, then broke after. It was extremely difficult to use. I had to use my entire body weight to completely press the machine. Youre supposed to push it hard so it transfers the force onto the metal button to bend it. However, this machine is designed so that the force goes into some plastic columns, with very little surface area. Since it’s plastic and small, not surprised that it broke after a few usages. Comes with a cheap circle cutter which is nice, but has no grip on the paper and constantly slips if you’re not used to it. If you’re looking for a reliable long term button maker, I’d like somewhere else.

I received mine three days ago and I am in LOVE. I cannot wait to make buttons for Rex Manning Day (April 8th, iykyk). Purchased to make my own picture magnets and maybe be able to my small business. It works so amazingly and I just absolutely love it. I have gone through most of the included product just making things with my kids! Absolutely worth the money! The only issue that isn't an issue is that the handle is so big, it makes it hard to store/find a carrying case for it.

I am impressed at the heft of the press, given it appears to be made of plastic. It has substantial weight to it which is bound to be of benefit as the buttons are pressed together. That said, this is very obviously a casual-at-best system. Kit would appear to have everything for button building with the grandkids, which is the intended purpose. The circular cutter looks a little fragile, but time will tell.
