Without going into bunches of beekeeping details, these are the best traps for the small hive beetle (SHB). I have lost three hive to other types of traps and methods. So, I did much more research and came across these and using a paste roach gel inside. Basically you mix some diatomaceous earth, with some pollen for bait, with the roach gel. Open the trap, put a dab of bait in the middle, and close the trap. Place a few around the hive. The bees will chase the SHB into the trap where they eat the paste and die. When doing routine hive checks, just empty the traps (now full of dead SHB). Refill and replace. These do so much better because the bees do not plug these up like they do the oil/vinegar traps. The bees cannot get into this for the bait. Compared to losing a hive, these are a bargain.

I have used this brand of trap for a few years. I have bought some that were cheaper and they warped and didn’t perform well. These continue to work great. I currently have some that are 5+ years old.

Not suitable for use inside beehive. There is no way to hold the liquids suggested to use inside the traps without it leaking into the hive. Very poor design.
