  • Looks great and easy to install
have been using the the Gasland Chef IH77BFH, Induction Cooktop for about two months and both my wife and I love it. The fan is a little noisy and and the clicking of the induction coils can be annoying, especially when the kitchen is quite. However, with a little background noise, you can hardly notice. It was a breeze to install, took me 20 mins to connect the cable and the spring clips that hold it in place. fitted perfectly in the hole from our previous ceramic radiant cooktop, looks great and heats up pots and pans much quicker. A couple of useful tips: * Be careful when cleaning with a damp cloth as the controls go haywire, but OK once they dry off. * Easy to lock, my wife thought the unit was defective. Just hold down the + & - at the same time for about 5 seconds and good to go. Main advantages over radiant cooktops: * Heats up as quickly as gas and even quicker with the boost function. * The induction top does not heat up (except heat from pot/pan), hence much easier to clean. Spills do not bake onto surface and you do not need the cooktop to cool down before cleaning. * The IH77BFH can join the coils on the left and/or right of the cooktop (very useful for long skillets) or can used individually, 5 positions. * Some nice safety features, such as coil turning off as soon as you move the pot/pan and metal surface is no longer detected. Can also be locked to stop kids from using it unsupervised. Disadvantages: * Noisier than a radiant cooktop * Single control for all rings takes a little getting used to. All in all, a great cooktop and good value for money. ... show more

  • Good low cost induction cooktop
Pro: Boils water faster than anything short of a nuclear reactor. Low simmer works well (better than most gas/electric I've used) Easy to clean, food doesn't burn onto the surface. Makes cool "space ship" noises while you're cooking Con: No UL or CSA safety ratings that I can find. Have to buy induction cookware. Minimal user manual and overly complex user interface. Touch controls don't handle getting wet very well. I've mostly used consumer grade gas cooktops and the last few years a radiant electric. This is my first induction cooktop. I choose it based on price, it was a fraction of big name ones at the local store, and decent reviews. It's been in use a few months now and we're very satisfied with it. We are using a new set of Circulon cookware we bought plus some cast iron that was on hand. Sorry to lose all the Revere pans that have been in the fam for generations but they don't work on induction. It boils water really fast on the highest boost setting. For 3 quarts or less you can literally stand there and watch it come to a boil. We learned the hard way don't walk off even for a moment with something on the higher settings. It heats way faster than the radiant electric it replaced and faster than the gas tops I've used in the past. The heat settings are 1-9 plus boost. The lowest settings simmer nice and low. At the low end settings I wouldn't mind a couple finer adjustments and a faster on/off cycle for the burner to keep the heat a little more consistent. We were constantly scraping and scrubbing the radiant cooktop to remove burnt on food and water marks. Compared to that this induction top is super easy to clean, spills don't burn onto the cooler surface. The only issue when cleaning is the touch controls. I have to carefully clean everywhere else leaving the touch controls dry. Then I clean the touch control area, it's almost impossible to clean the touch controls without the cooktop going on & off crazily as you wipe over the surface. What makes this tolerable is nothing gets hot without a pan on it. Sounds: It has cooling fans for the electronics. The induction burners make buzzing/whirring/clicking sounds in operation. Nothing is too loud and we kinda like the sci-fi sound effects. The user manual is very minimal both for installation and operation. There was a cardboard template for the countertop cutout but little else on installation. I couldn't find a recommended breaker size anywhere. I ended up sticking with the 40A breaker the previous radiant cooktop used. The manual explains the controls and how to do power boost, etc. The interface could be simpler but after the first week it made little difference. Some functions like BBQ the manual tells how to activate it, but nothing about what it is or using it. (BBQ bridges front and rear burners together but only at a fixed high temp setting. The temp was too high for my cast iron griddle so I consider BBQ function worthless). Their were no UL or CSA certifications anywhere I could find on the cooktop, the cord or the box. Certifications are not required for residential use in my area but it would be nice to see them. Certification costs money and time so I guess that might be one of the reasons this cooktop is 1/3 the price of most others I looked at. ... show more

  • So glad I decided to purchase!
I had to repair or replace a very high end induction cooktop. The repair estimate was $1500 and replacement was over $3000. I was so anxious to get this thinking “you get what you pay for”. I could not be happier with it! Far exceeded my expectations and so much better than the expensive brand I had! User friendly and well thought out design. Unlike the other brand, this one offers more cooking flexibility and I can use the surface when not cooking. I can rest plates and cooked dishes on the surface without the constant beeping the other one had. Beautiful, easy to use and easy to clean and saved so much money!!! Easily installed (did it with the help of a friend.) Made in the USA too! Wonderful product! ... show more
