    • Defective Design - Effectively Zero Evaporative Cooling

This product deserves zero stars. It essentially an expensive fan with water in the bottom to weight it down. The design is defective. Evaporative cooling works by passing warm dry air through a pad that is saturated with water. The water from the pad evaporates and draws heat out of the air. This device has two issues that prevent it from working. First, the sides are open with no pads. Warm air comes in through the sides and is blown out the front. Second, the rear "pad" is not a pad at all, it is just stripes of cardboard supported by a wire mesh. Most of the air goes around the cardboard strips with very little evaporation. I tested this unit outdoors at my house in the Mojave Desert. The air temperature was 93 degrees F with 16% relative humidity. Under those conditions the theoretical temperature drop achievable by evaporative cooling is 30 degrees F. I put one temperate and humidity gauge on top of the unit and the other in the outlet grill. There was zero temperature drop. I put ice in the pan on top of the unit to ensure that ice water was running down the "pad". This increased the temperature drop to 2 degrees F. I then covered the sides with plastic wrap (the differential pressure created by the fun was enough to keep the plastic wrap in place. This increased the temperature drop to 5 degrees F until the ice melted, which was less than 10 minutes. My neighbor bought a Hessaire unit, which is more expensive but it has pads on all three inlet sides. Our test of that unit achieved a 77 degree outlet temperature with 95 degrees air at 16% humidity at the inlet (it got hotter during the day). The outlet humidity was 41%. Don't waste you money on this unit - or any other unit that doesn't have real evaporative pads on all of the air inlets to the fan. ... show more

I set this up in my 1bed 800 sqft apartment as the summer heat was getting brutal. it really pumps out some surprisingly cold air. The water tank is huge, we can leave it running all evening without having to constantly top it off with water. Remote makes it super easy to operate. the included ice packs in makes a huge difference in cooling the air. I was skeptical about a swamp cooler this size, but the 2000 CFM airflow is no joke. The dual 6.6-gallon tanks mean I’m not constantly refilling it, and throwing in the 4 ice packs really kicks the chill up a notch. For one the pic they are now using isn't the same unit. They state it will bring the room temp down 10° with the ice packs. That's a lie! It didn't go down even 1. It's just a good fan. I also hate that when using the remote it puts on the alarms on my led clock, which makes it useless.

This works much better if there is cooler air in the house. My son's room is always hot. So I use a regular swamp cooler for the majority of the house and this works perfect to keep his room cool.

If you’re looking for something to actually cool your room, this is not the product you need. This is basically a strong fan with a water tank. Even when using cold water and the included ice packs, it did not lower the room temperature at all. The airflow is decent, so as a fan it works fine, but it should not be confused with a real air conditioner. The advertising can be misleading because this unit does not cool a room the way an AC does. Buy it only if you want a fan, not if you’re expecting air conditioning. ... show more
