As an old retired guy, I start a lot of fires. Two fire pits, a fireplace, a charcoal grill, and campfires when camping. I have used similar products to these fire starters and they are my preferred method for starting fires. They burn hot enough and long enough to ignite larger pieces of kindling so you don't have to use twigs to get your fire going. They are wood and wax so they won't impart any chemical odors to your charcoal or food. They have grooves so you can break them off into the size you need for any particular fire. They come in a very generous box of 240 pieces and that should be plenty enough to get me through the summer. Starting fires with these things is a snap. I usually place a small piece of wood at the bottom of the fire, put the firestarters on top of the small piece of wood, and then stack some kindling on top of that and a few bigger pieces of wood on top leaving a corner of the fire starter sticking out where I can reach it. Light the corner of the fire starter and then sit back and relax because your fire is going. I do recommend these convenient fire starters.

This does get the job done, but I still prefer soaking paper towel sheets in cheap vegetable oil. One big advantage of this is that it's portable; it's easier to carry little wafers, than a glass jar full of oil-soaked paper towel squares. If you want dry compact firestarters, this is for you. I will keep these to use in a pinch, but I still prefer my oily paper towels. You may certainly disagree. I got this for free through Amazon Vine.

These fire starter squares break off easily into convenient chunks for single use like a giant chocolate bar. I was able to ignite it with a single match with no trouble at all. It produced large flames so it is great for when I need to make a campfire.
