  • Pretty decent
Honestly my expectations weren't too high to begin with as Im a tech enthusiast but I was surprised with with laptop. I think first things first is to temper your expectations. The product is at a certain price point and for that price point, I think it does quite well. Product arrived in a slim and compact cardboard box with a handle. It comes with the product along with some cables and instructions, nothing else really. I really like how there us minimal branding on the product. Booting on took about 30 seconds and from there, you just follow the setup prompts with windows. It took me about 5 mins though ilI opted not to sign in with my accounts and sync it over. The keyboard feels nice enough, it almost reminds me of the early mac laptops back in the day. The typing experience is more than adequate. The track pad though was kind of bad, this is where Id suggest people to use a mouse. There's little vertical space and it skips over occasionally. The display was nice, watching media content and general work tasks was more than adequate. The battery lasts about as long as I'd expect, I took it for a day at work and did have have to charge it once but otherwise, it lasted through the day. I'd bring the charger for work days. I wouldn't attempt to game on this unless it was very badic and I mean basic. It does get a bit hot even with that though. Overall, I do like this laptop and it comes with enough features at this price that I'd recommend this to others ... show more

  • Daily usage
It's a bit slow but can get the job done with daily usage. Simple things like surfing the net. Watching youtube videos works fine. I wouldn't be playing any games with this. Overall, it's ok for simple tasks.

  • I've used way worse
There's a lot to like and a lot to dislike with this laptop. It's important to keep in mind the price ($244 with a $30 coupon code at time of writing this review). This is not an expensive laptop. Pros: 1) Windows 11 pro installed and ready to go. If nothing else, that license has an inherent value 2) no bloatware. this is a pure vanilla windows install that drops you into the normal setup wizard 3) The UEFI is absolutely wide open. No hidden settings... for better or worse. Don't mess if you don't know what you're doing. Only thing I saw odd was that the SATA drive was set to HDD instead of SSD (Windows still detected it correctly as an SSD) 4) the keyboard is ok. it's not amazing but I've used more expensive laptops that had worse deck flex. Perfectly serviceable keyboard 5) The predicted battery life. From full charge, Windows estimates over 6 hours of battery life with the CPU pegged at 100% use. Nothing to complain about there 6) The screen. Gets plenty bright, colors look fine. It's not HDR, it's not calibrated to any particular standard. It's a basic functional screen with no dead pixels, noticeable defects, or bright spots. The meh: 1) Connectivity. A mixed bag. Mini HDMI, microsd reader, 2 USB type A, 1 type C. Wifi card is a slightly older Realtek chipset with Bluetooth 4.2, and a DC power jack. 2) Touchpad. It's vertically narrow. It's functional but the vertical shortness can be annoying and the surface is a bit "sticky" (textured plastic top). That said it gave me no issues with detecting movement, taps, or clicks. 3) The SSD. It's 512GB. It's an SSD. But it's a company I've never heard of and only SATA. It seems to function fine just not the greatest. 4) 8GB of RAM. In quad channel, no less. But non-replaceable. 8GB is enough to be functional. The bad: 1) The CPU. It's a Celeron 4020c. Dual core, no hyperthreading. It spends a LOT of time pegged at 100%. It can play youtube at 1080p without skipping too many frames (85ish out of 1000 frames skipped in my testing). But this is not going to handle anything much beyond basic unitasking. 2) The heat. The bottom of this thing gets HOT on one side. The top side under your left hand is hot but gave me no concern to get burned. The bottom of the same side... yeah that was getting hot enough to risk burn injury. To the credit of the system, the rest of the system stays cool. But having all that heat concentrated makes its own problems. Final thoughts: So, who is this for? It'd be ok for a kid for schoolwork, or for a basic user that mostly unitasks, or for just basic media consumption. The speakers don't get loud but they didn't distort or anything. I'd rate it better than the ultra-basic walmart special in similar price range. You get full Windows (no S mode), enough storage to be functional, and enough RAM to be functional. You don't get much power. Build quality seems fine, reminds me of any other entry level basic laptop. In this price range specifically, I find it hard to complain about anything aside from maybe the concentrated heat on one side and the choice of a dual-core CPU. Even with that being said, I've used worse machines that cost as much or more. So I can cautiously recommend this with the important caveat that you don't need much performance and you don't put it on your lap directly (or anything temperature sensitive). ... show more

  • Surprisingly OK laptop
... I don't much like the power brick, but it works. The laptop does power on and does work exactly as you'd expect. It runs Debian quite nicely, but one thing to note is that Intel EPB will not be functional on this laptop. I'm still digging into this so that I can see if I can get power states working as one would expect. The screen is decently high-quality but with HiDPI being a pain on Linux, it's debatable. This laptop was imaged with Windows 11 but I never gave Windows 11 a shot because I don't like the invasive nature of the OS. Still... once Debian 12 was installed, everything worked largely out of the box aside from that EPB issue. ... show more
