This blackout shade feels like a piece of nylon tent fabric in thickness, but with a reflective, metallic coating on the window side. There's no way it has four layers laminated together as indicated in the product description. So it's not really a blackout "curtain," because no one would confuse this for actual curtain material. That said, no meaningful amount of sunlight passes through it; it DOES work. The installation method leaves a bit to be desired. It involves applying strips of Velcro, backed with an allegedly industrial strength adhesive, to your window frames. That way the shades are removeable! Except putting Velcro on your window frames looks awful, and the adhesive will likely take paint with it should you ever remove the Velcro. I'll be sticking with some binder clips on the curtain rod, and live with some light seeping in at the edges. The tape measure, marker, and cutter were admittedly nice pack-ins. I got this shade for a special, one-time-use event, so it'll suit my purposes. If you need something more durable and/or attractive, keep shopping. ... show more

This is a pretty inclusive kit that comes with basically everything you need to cut and install them (a cutting tool, a fabric tape measure, a marking pen, and mounting strips). The shade mastery is comparable to most other travel shade kits out there but this one differs a little in the mounting style. It has adhesive Velcro strips instead of silicone glass mounts so you can better customize where and how they’re mounted. The only downside to this method is the possibility of adhesive residue upon removal. Since I mount this type of shade to the back of our curtains using alligator clips, this isn’t really an issue for me. For the price, this is a pretty nice set of blackout shades that mounts pretty easily and includes everything needed to use them. Solid four stars. ... show more

(2023 Upgrade) 5-Piece Set Blackout Shades/Blinds for Windows, 118" x 57"Portable Blackout I got this product to darken a space for our projector room. We like watching movies on a 120" screen and having a room with minimal lighting is required. This product does an excellent job at blocking ALL of the light. No light gets through this curtain. I was also delighted to see that the other side of the curtain is a reflective silver. This serves as two very important purposes. The silver side reflects the light away from the window as well as the heat that comes with it. Your space will be cooler as well. These are two great benefits. I have never gotten a product like this before, so I wasn't sure what to expect material wise. This product is much like a tent material. I was impressed on how small the package actually was. The product uses Velcro to secure it to the window and it is plenty strong to hold this lightweight material. This will never fall down. I like the idea of using Velcro because you can easily buy that at your regular store and if you want to reuse this product on other windows, it is no trouble. The curtain is very large and this product is designed for you to custom fit it to your window. Inside the package you have everything you need to cut it to the perfect length. I would recommend using a straightedge to guide your cuts. Overall, this is an excellent product and at an awesome price. I recommend this item. ... show more

We wanted to try this material out on our patio door in our bedroom. It is spring now and the light comes through the blinds until 9 pm. The installation was a bit tedious, taking the tape off of the Velcro and then taking the tape off of the velcro once you have the tape on the window. Once the Velcro was in place we had enough material to do the patio door and an upstairs west facing window that gets really hot in the summer. We slept in a cave last night and loved it! The nice thing is the doors still work and you can take the covering off easily with the velcro fasteners. ... show more

I got this product to darken our bedroom since my husband is working nights and sleeping during the day. This product does an excellent job at blocking ALL of the light and he sleeps really great. The other side of the curtain is a reflective silver. The silver side reflects the light away from the window as well as the heat that comes with it.
