My house has two AC units. One for the bedrooms and one for the main part of the house. All the bedrooms have windows facing the west which lets in the evening sun and it's so hot in SE Texas in the summer. The thermostat is in the master bedroom, and even with window tint and blackout curtains, it still gets too warm in the summer evenings that the AC can't keep up for the bedrooms. I set it on 72, and it's 78 degrees until well after the sun goes down. Installed these on our windows, which was so easy, and the AC keeps it exactly the temp I set it on now. This product is awesome! The shades are extremely light so they adhere easily to the Velcro sticker dots that come in the package. Yet the thin fabric doesn't diminish the blackout capability one bit and they completely black out the light. I live in a sun-facing apartment in NYC with floor to ceiling windows throughout and during the punishing summer months, especially this harsh summer, it has a greenhouse effect on my apartment and the temperatures rise considerably so I need to keep on the AC all day. I didn't want the eyesore of heavy blackout curtains and the ugly rods they come with so until I saw this product I thought I had no choice but to accept the heat and high electricity costs. The moment I placed these in my apartment, it significantly cooled and I now use my AC about 80% less than before, it's used only on really hot days and only then it's for a couple of hours as opposed to all day long. If I have guests or wish to enjoy the midtown views the shades are as easy to remove and to fold away as they are to install, all it took was a small step ladder, and about 2 minutes of my time. I work night shift and this is the best thing i’ve ever gotten to help me sleep. It makes my room EXTREMELY dark and makes it’s soooo easy to finally sleep. There’s a few little gaps where light comes in but i truly think that’s just due to my bad placement skills. I didn’t use the sticky tabs it came with. I bought heavy duty velcro strips and put them in the corners when i put it up. Works amazingggg. I only put 4 stars because i did have to buy different sticky/velcro strips to use. If you work nights and can’t stand light in the room, get this! ... show more

I used these curtains to block sunlight from my daughters nursery. They work great! My only thought is that they aren’t “portable” as there is an adhesive Velcro sticker that needs to go onto the window to attach the curtain, and you’ve already cut the size of the specific window. If you truly want portable, get curtains with a suction cup. These curtains are great if you intend to use them for the same windows. This was an inexpensive, easy-to-install temporary solution for our east-facing bedroom windows until our blackout curtains arrive. In retrospect, when I cut the material I should have given myself at least an inch more overlap on all four sides to create a better light seal. I installed them behind the blinds and just used one of the large velcro adhesive-backed "dots" in each corner. With the blinds closed you don't even see the blackout material. From the outside you see a dull silver material with the creases from the material being folded in the package. I've left them in place for over a month and they haven't budged. If I didn't have blinds up I think the shades would be easy to remove and reinstall but, again, I'd make sure I left some overlap material to create the best possible seal. ... show more

(Let me preface by saying, the only actual issue I had was minor and that was that the velcro that sticks to the windows/walls did NOT like my textured ceiling, but that was quickly fixed by running to the store and grabbing some command strips Velcro and using the soft sided pieces i had already put on the fabric.) I work Night Shifts at a gas station and live in a camper, so needless to say my room has always been so bright that the only way I could get proper sleep was with a sleep mask or pure exhaustion! But this has been an absolute lifesaver, its dark as a cave even on sunny days, trims super easily and can be adjusted to be as loose or form fitting as you’d like! Even in the Missouri summer heat, my room has cooled down significantly and I am finally able to use my projector screen to watch shows during the day! If you’re hesitant, I HIGHLY recommend this, especially if you’re a third shifter like me! A friend of mine works with me and she bought it the next day I told her about it and said she had the BEST sleep ever! I’d give 10 stars if I could! ... show more

Works as expected and described. You will need to cut to size for the window you are blocking. It velcro's to the wall with adhesive tabs provided. The only downfall to this is that because it comes in a package folded, the creases are visible from the outside. Otherwise, it works well, totally blocks all light and reflects a ton of heat (I'm in Florida, and this helps keep the room much cooler than others in my house). ... show more
