  • Great for homeschooling or hobby use and a great value for the cost
This review is for the 2000X Microscope for Kids Adults Beginner: Compound Monocular Microscope Science Discovery Biology Microscopio Kits for Lab Home School with Slides, Phone Holder, Metal Frame Edu Gift For Kids 8-12 Before I begin the review of this microscope, I’d like to mention some things concerning retinal defects and refractive defects in some people’s eyeballs. These defects in human sight are very noticeable when looking thru a microscope at high magnification levels. I can speak from personal experience about this! I verified the image distortion in my case was my eyes and not the microscope by taking a photo with my camera using the phone adapter that come with this microscope kit. The photo did not have any noticeable distortion. To read about these phenomena, do a Google search for “eyeball defects causes distortion in microscope images”. Okay, now for my review. The LED light that runs on a 5V USB power source like a power bank (not included) or a 120VAC to USB-A 5V “wall wart” (also not included). You can also use the mirror instead of the LED light to take advantage of ambient light or other light source. The focusing mechanism works smoothly with no noticeable “play” when changing rotation direction of the focusing knob. Comes with some slides with prepared samples to start using the microscope right out of the box. The carrying case is really nice for storing and transporting the microscope and all of the accessories safely. Great for homeschooling or hobby use and a great value for the cost. We recommend this product. ... show more

  • Great for beginners
Quite impressed with this microscope, especially for the price. The build feels sturdy and solid, and it’s easy to set up and start using. The different lenses and eyepieces provide a good range of magnification, making it fun kids and even adults to examine different types of samples. The LED and mirror lighting options are a nice feature, and the adjustable brightness makes it easier to get a clear view depending on what you’re looking at. The images are surprisingly clear when the focus and lighting are adjusted properly. It’s great for looking at plant leaves, small insects, fibers, prepared slides, and other everyday objects. I also really like that it comes with prepared slides and accessories, so there’s plenty to experiment with right out of the box. The phone holder is another great addition because it makes it possible to capture pictures and share interesting discoveries. The rechargeable design is convenient as well, since you don’t have to keep it plugged in while using it. Definitely a fun, educational, and versatile microscope perfect to gift to any kids in your life or use for homeschooling. ... show more

  • Great entry scope!
For a beginner microscope at this price point I am very happy with it. I will tell you that I know very little about microscopes other than the cheap $20 scopes were not working for us and we couldn't see anything on our prepared slides. This microscope gives crystal clear images of the prepared slides. The microscope is very easy to use- when me kids found out I got this they immediately opened the box and got it out. My 10yo son had it ready to go and was viewing the included prepared slides within a few minutes. He declared "this is a win!". We homeschool and have been wanting a microscope for months- I was hesitant to shell out hundreds of dollars for one but afraid the $55 scopes wouldn't give clear images but this does. This scope is educational, gives quality viewing and is a great value for the money. I can't speak to durability because we haven't had it long enough. ... show more

  • Awesome Starter Microscope for Kids—Super Easy to Use with Great LED Lighting
I picked up this "My First Microscope" set for the kids to play around with, and it did not disappoint. Right out of the box, it’s a really neat, lightweight little unit that’s super easy for small hands to manage. It features several different zoom capabilities—including interchangeable eyepieces that you can easily pop in and out—so young scientists can quickly dial in different levels of magnification to get a close-up look at the microscopic world. One of my favorite features on this setup is the built-in LED light at the bottom. When I was a kid, these starter sets forced you to tilt a tiny mirror around to catch ambient light, which was always a headache. This set still lets you use the mirror setup if you want, but having that dedicated LED light completely eliminates the hassle. It turns right on, illuminates the subject perfectly, and lets you adjust the light intensity super easily. The kit comes with a few pre-made slides included, which was great for immediate hands-on fun right after opening the box. However, my only real knock is that it doesn't include any blank slides or cover slips for kids to make their own samples. That's always the first thing kids want to do—once they check out the included slides, they immediately want to look at a leaf, bug, or something they found around the house or outside. Blank slides are cheap enough to buy separately, and it would have been awesome if the manufacturer had thrown a few in the box. I knocked off 1 star for this. Overall though, it's a fantastic starter microscope. It's well-designed, easy to operate, and guaranteed to spark some genuine curiosity! ... show more

  • Excellent beginner microscope with surprisingly sharp optics
It’s been about 30 years since I last used a microscope as a kid, and I bought this one for my son. For the price, I’m genuinely impressed with the quality. The optics are extremely sharp, especially in the more useful 40X–400X range. It advertises magnification up to 2000X, but in my opinion that’s far more than you really need. We’ve found the lower magnifications much more interesting and practical for looking at plants, insects, and other specimens. I also really like that the built-in light is rechargeable via USB, so you don’t have to keep replacing batteries. The microscope includes five prepared slides, which is a nice way to get started right away. I ended up buying an additional slide set on Amazon so we would have even more specimens to explore. Another great feature is the included phone mount, which makes it easy to take pictures of what you’re seeing through the microscope. The photos I’ve been able to capture are much better than I expected from a microscope in this price range. My son and I have already had a lot of fun exploring different plants and insects together. I think this is an excellent starter microscope and a really fun way to get a child interested in science. Very happy with it! ... show more

  • Great first time microscope
This was an amazing and fun idea for kids. It comes with 5 slides with things they can look at and investigate. It has several lenses included for more magnification. My kids are wanting to check everything with it. They have scoured our yard and home for little things to magnify and learn about. The settings and instructions are fairly simple to understand. It has simple features to help them use it. It has sparked a lot of investigating and learning. The light was the hardest thing to figure out how to adjust. But once we figured it out, we were off! Perfect for the curious and lovers of science! My children are 8 and 9 and both are using it for EVERYTHING. It would be better if it came with blank slides to use. The image is good. The price is extremely reasonable for a microscope of this kind. ... show more

  • A Real Beginner Microscope With Room to Learn
This is a capable beginner compound microscope with a sturdy metal frame, adjustable coarse and fine focus, prepared slides, and a phone holder for saving discoveries. It is a nice step up from a preschool microscope, and the 4x, 10x, and 40x objectives provide useful magnification settings for looking at plant tissue, prepared specimens, and other thin samples. The “2000x” setting is best treated as a maximum marketing figure; for the clearest and most satisfying results, the lower and mid range magnification settings are usually easier for kids and beginners to focus and illuminate well. Overall, it is a thoughtful STEM gift for children around 8 to 12 with adult help at first, and it has enough capability to remain useful for home school projects and casual biology exploration. ... show more

  • Great learning microscope for young kids.
This is a great scope for learning--hands down the best thing we got this summer. My 5 and 7 year old grandkids both love this. It has three lenses, also three different magnification settings you can switch with the lenses and you can stack lenses (getting even more magnification). It came with premade slides. We were immediately restless in a good way and boned up on middle-school biology slide prep. we found slides and covers online, an eye dropper around the house, some scotch tape and all of us went around specimen collecting (hair, leaves, fruit slices). The light on the base is super helpful--so we didn't have to catch light with the built in mirror. Truly a great gift. 4x, 10x and 40 x are our favorite magnifications. Because slides are glass-do supervise usage. No complaints. It's metal which feels durable. Case is nice too. can fit everything plus our slides and eyedroppers in the case . ... show more
