They are very beautiful. They are not hard to crack open... so NO need to smash hard on them. A regular hammer and chisel will suffice. It would be nice to saw one open with a tile saw. I gave a lot away as Christmas gifts. Enjoying cracking each one open.

These were a big success!! We spent the good part of an hour cracking them open. They are beautiful inside. Ours had slight variations in color, some looked silvery gray, some white and clear, and some were very light amber colored in places. If you are purchasing for a younger child they will need a little help cracking them open. We used a small screw driver as a chisel as well as a hammer. On the harder ones. I brought them for my Niece's birthday and we had a blast doing them, the quality is fantastic, shipping and delivery beautiful, and the crystals themselves are gorgeous! It was disappointing the geology hammer needed for opening the geodes was not included. The rocks come in a sturdy burlap bag which is nice.
