    • Great for illuminating a dark garage…..
Overall I’m very happy with this product and it’s at a very good price point. I wanted these because I was looking for brighter lights in my garage. The most difficult part for me was installation due to the ceiling height. Anyway, after scaling a ladder (and yes I took the necessary precautions) I got two of these installed in a 20’ x 17.5’ garage. I flipped the switch at night and the place is lit up and they’ve easily illuminated that space. Had I the time, the ladder and inclination I’d have made use of the ability to direct the tilt angle of these. Areas for improvement might be the option to have a white colored plastic housing as opposed to black, and then in terms of the ability to direct the light, it would have been nice if there were registration notches so you could direct the tilt and thus the light from say 0, 20, 40, 60, etc degrees. I also thought the plastic didn’t feel super robust but once they are up these seem fine. I dropped a star not because they’re bad lights but because I think there’s one or two minor changes I’d make to make them a bit better. That being said, the lights illuminate a dark space very well and so I’m happy. If I could, I’d have given a 4.5 out of 5. I hope they last a few years as I think they’re pretty good overall.     • YOUR LED RETROFIT: Which is more practical...tubes or screw-ins with adjustable LED panels?
THE DREAM: You'll refit your garage or workshop with an array of LED tubes that will blast so many photons down on your work area that you'll feel like you're working outdoors in Saudi Arabia when it's 10:00 p.m......in Seattle...in January. And they'll last for 50,000 hrs. Yup. You might not even live long enough to witness their decline. THE REALITY: On the permanent-to-disposable spectrum, LED lights are somewhere in the middle. You probably won't get even half the advertised life span, but they're still the most affordable source of illumination out there. So it doesn't really make sense to spend hours rewiring your workspace for LED tubes that are going to need their own installation brackets and will use proprietary 3-6 ft. cables to connect them together, especially is you already have ordinary Edison sockets in the right place. Whatever LED setup you decide on, plan on periodic replacement of the LED-embedded fixture. Nothing lasts as long as you'd like it to. Adjusting the angle of the panels is helpful, so if you have reflector shields on your sockets that would get in the way of that, take them off. Even if you have to add or move sockets for ideal placement, that's a relatively cheap and easy tweak. If you're putting in new sockets from ground zero, try to place them above the rafters so that you don't carelessly smash the light to smithereens when your attention is absorbed with the task of moving that 4 x 8 sheet of plywood to the other side of the garage. The light is dazzlingly bright. Is it really 12000 lux? Who knows? It's BRIGHT. It's also a good design for projecting the light where you need it so you may not need as many as you think. Lights up my jazz studio so everyone can read the music and also the horse barn so I can actually see what I’m doing applying bandages and cleaning wounds. The color is warm and looks cozy when I’m looking out the window to the barn after a snowfall. After the tornado blew down my old one I only install 2 in a 600 square foot shop and they lit it up perfectly ,would buy again if I need to ,the quality was good. Bright and great! You screw them in like any light bulb and turn the light on! IT IS BRIGHT! I bought these for the garage so they'll see some use which I hope helps with longevity (that remains to be seen) but when on, it is BRIGHT! I love them! Night and DAY difference (pun intended!) ! The little light panels can be moved and positioned to cast light in different directions is a nice and helpful feature. Overall, a very nice, well designed and built product (so far). ... show more
