This is the first home I have ever had with zoysia and this is the first spring that I tried the whole "routine." This scarifier did a great job. It was quieter and easier to use than expected. This house was rehabbed 13 years ago and the series of owners since then have not been lawn care people. The yard was heavily thatched. I looked into renting a gas-powered rake which would require raking up the litter by hand, and this machine was about twice the price of a rental and came with a bagger, so it seemed worth buying. And it was! I started by mowing the lawn down as low as my mower would go (collecting and bagging up all the debris). Then found the right setting for scarifying depth which is actually this machines highest setting. It bagged up the thatch litter perfectly and scored the soil just about 1/4". It pulled out shockingly few green blades of grass. I expected it to do a lot more of ripping out live blades, but it didn't. Now the lawn is incredibly clean and smoother than I would have expected. It also knocked down the high places such as former mole hills. (Some of these visible in the photo). The machine is very light weight. Easy to push & maneuver. It has warnings about its noise level, but I would say it's quieter than my electric mower. It's almost square in shape and about the same size as its bag attachment so by removing the handles, it takes up a very small foot print in storage. It's also light weight enough that I think most people would be able to place it on a shelf as well which is a bonus. The only downer is my lawn is quite large and between the mowing and the scarifier, I filled 22 lawn bags. The good news is, that was after 13 years of neglect so I expect the amount to be less in the future. Good purchase. I would get it again.

There’s a lot of Dethatchers to choose from on Amazon. I wanted to go with one of the more well known brands like Greenworks or SunJoe, but they only have 8 gal bags. I ultimately went this Dethatcher due to the larger bag (14.5 gal). As the title says…SCALP YOUR LAWN FIRST. This will make the dethatching much more effective and easy. My lawn has been neglected for years and I had a TON of thatch. On the lowest setting, I couldn’t go more than a foot without the bag filling up. I decided to just use it without the bag and bungee the lid up out of the way. I got pelted with rocks and there was dust/grass shooting all over me, but it was the only way I was going to be able to get it done. If your mower has a bagger you can simply mow back over the piles you create. I ended up filling 10x 50 gallon trash bags. The bag on this Dethatcher is extremely easy to take on and off which allows quick work. I used the scarifying attachment so I can’t speak to the dethatching attachment. After my first round of scarifying I went back over my grass and scalped it (bagging all the clippings with mower) and scarified again. If I would have scalped from the beginning I may not have had to do it twice but again I had a ton of thatch. Overall solid product. My only complaint is that since you are working off an extension cord, the machine did occasionally get unplugged from the black power cord. I combatted this with gorilla tape around the connection but maybe some sort of clasp could be created in a future version. Happy dethatching…..

It works great for a little machine. The bag filled up quickly and was easy to use. Only reason for deducting 1 star is due to the fact it looks like toy as everything is plastic and cheap looking. But it’s full functional and does the job.

I de-thatched my front yard with this electric machine. My only regret is that I didnt have this de-thatcher sooner!!! It's excellent and a great value. You'll need a heavy duty extension cord. I used a 15 amp 100' cord and it worked beautifully. It is fairly light weight and easy to assemble. The instructions are adequate. There were years of thatch to get up, so I put the setting on 2 and wow! I filled up 6 contractor trash bags with thatch. While I agree the thatch catcher doesn't hold a lot, it would be too heavy and awkward to remove if it held more. After dethatching, I over seeded the grass and added some "new seed" fertilizer. Within just 5 days and some rain, I've never seen the yard look so good....and this is before the new grass has sprouted!
