I ended up getting this changed in my dining room. I wanted something more modern or rustic to bring the room together. My boyfriend ended up installing this. I don't believe he used the directions although it comes with directions. He did have to go back up there and rewire something because the first time it didn't work with the switch. He did say it was fairly easy to install, I do suggest getting someone who knows what they are doing. This did not come with any light bulbs. I ended up moving some bulbs from lamps i had laying around. My suggestion would be to get some soft lights, not high LED or anything like that. It is pretty bright in my opinion. It shows a glare off of things on my table located underneath the light. It does not have a remote or adjustable brightness which would have been better in my opinion. The flat surface is removable to change the lights or for easy cleaning. You can remove the plastic cover on the shade, but I just left it on. I have a thing for trying to preserve items to their fullest. I do with I would have chose a darker shade color, maybe a darker brown or a grey. The size of the cylinder fits for the area that I chose to put the light in. It looks really nice honestly where it is, and although it is lighter, it did bring that area together and make the lighter things pop like my curtains. Any light fixture under $100 is a great buy I think for the value I received . I just wish it came with light bulbs and or maybe some kind of remote for adjusting the brightness. I guess you could buy those smart bulbs and adjust the light from an app if you want to adjust them. Not too bad of an idea actually. ... show more

    • Large simple drum fixture with three bulb sockets
This is a pretty simple fixture. It's shaped like a large round cylinder. It's fabric all around the side, like a lampshade type of fabric, with a pretty typical looking lampshade-style pattern in the fabric that looks like scratchy horizontal lines, which is pretty. The inside structure is very simple: Three thin metal sticks connect to the sides, and they connect in the center to the middle of the canopy. The canopy is just a round white canopy that has less height to it, so it sits more flush against the ceiling. It's got the typical white and black wires for hardwiring, with a bare wire for ground. The whole top of the fixture is open, and there are three sockets inside for three E26 bulbs. The whole bottom of the fixture is a large round disc of white frosted material, which is the diffuser. I don't know what it's made of, but it's a thin and large disc that's stiff and only slightly flexible. That disc rests along the bottom of the fixture, and it's supported all around the edges, with no support in the middle. My fixture came with no bulbs. I also did not see any control box inside, just a black and white wire that leads directly to the E26 bulb sockets. Because of that, any dimming or color temperature control appears to depend on the bulbs being used. The brightness would also be largely determined by the wattage and type of bulbs used. This is a pretty lightweight fixture with not very many features that stand out. Just thin metal bars, simple bulb sockets, and a fabric shade. But it is large, with a larger diffuser, and three sockets instead of just one, so I think it still has solid value as a simple drum-style ceiling light. ... show more

This is a fabulous light. Elegant, classy, and easy to install. My absolute pet peeve these days with most online light orders (with shades that is) is they send the shade all rolled up and you are supposed to affix it to the wire hoops yourself and it LEAVES A VELCRO SEAM. This seriously drives me insane. However this light does NOT do that -- The light arrives full size! It comes in a full size box with the whole light fully assembled, and the installation is completely straightforward. Grounding wire, black wire, white wire. If you know anything you can easily install this yourself in 10 minutes (but if you have no idea how to install a light call a licensed electrician or a handyman please do not attempt yourself unsupervised.) I also want to comment on the oversized 18". This is a larger light which looks very elegant in a bedroom or living room. People often undersize lights and fans for their space and they just look cheap and tacky. This is a great size to really the modern linen shade look in a very expensive looking manner. If you are selling your house, this is a great choice for upgrading your light fixtures to attract a higher market price. Honestly I would have no problem installing this light in a $4,000,000 house that I am selling (I am both a Realtor and a Stager.) The price is very reasonable for the quality.     • Great for an office or guest room
This light is pretty simple in function and very easy to install. The light quality is about average, you can put in brighter bulbs, but if it's too bright, it takes away from the look of the light fixture. I installed this in my office which is about 10x12 and the size was just about right for that room, I wouldn't put it into anything larger or it will be too small.
