This is a huge hunk of plastic with a stainless handle attached meant to be a chopping block. You can use either side. The metal handle is just screwed to the side of the block. It would be nice if the seller would have recessed or mortised the handle and the screws which attach it. It's not well finished. The weight and density is ideal for acting as a stable base for your meat cutting. The inertia of this thing means that it does not steal any energy from your chopping--it all goes into cutting whatever is on the board. It looks like a giant aspirin--with a handle. Though not enormous in width, it is really quite thick so storage arrangements may need to be considered. I really like that there are no indentations, grooves or ornamentation to catch dirt or provide a place for growing bacteria. The entire board can be submerged in a standard kitchen sink or washed off with a sprayer. Unlike wood boards, water is a non-issue and there is zero maintenance. I am trying to figure out if the surface is a touch concave (as a wooden block typically becomes) but I am not certain. It's a great idea and worth having if you are a sometimes butcher of just want the most stable surface you can imagine.

This is one serious chopping block. It's huge and weighs a ton! But, it is also durable and seems like it will last a lifetime. The cutting surfaces (top and bottom) are smooth enough but also add just the right amount of grip, so that meats and veggies dont slide around when cutting them. The handles on the sides are a nice touch and make carrying and handling the cutting board really easy (except for the heft and weight). This is not your average cutting board, and while it not particularly wide it is thick and bulky. Still, if you're looking for a high quality cutting board that will last a long time, this is the one. Highly recommended.

On the plus side, my wife has asked me to add a handle to the other side (as you only get one handle) that way it can also double as a workout tool while she is in the kitchen. I would love to say that this is a joke, but I am being very serious. This is a solid block and holding it out in front of you with a straight arm is very tough, my wife takes her gym time seriously enough that she is always looking for ways to get more workouts in during her everyday life.
