I like these 5.5 x 2.1mm cables a lot. The connectors are a little tight when connecting them together but will loosen slightly after 20-30 connections. It is still a very snug fit and by no means loose, it's just as free as most other 5.5x2.1mm barrel connectors. The best 5.5mm sleeve length is about 11mm (most are 9.5 to 11mm long). Longer than that and the sleeve (ground) will be exposed, which is often normal. I found the wire to be 18AWG and 100% copper and I made the following measurements: The 18 gauge wire measured 1.04mm using calipers. 18AWG is specified with a diameter of 1.0237mm, so the wire is 18 gauge. There are a total of 42 strands that make up the 18AWG wire. Note that the description states "Each side is built with 42pcs 0.15mm 100% Copper Strands. Total 84pcs 0.15mm Copper Strands in a DC Pigtail Cable." The first part is accurate but the second ("...84 pcs...") appears the number of strands was just doubled, which is silly (and wrong). If they're going to do that then count all four wires, two on each side of the connectors so 42 x 4 = 168 strands. Each strand was measured with a micrometer with the following results: 0.0053" (inch) for an individual strand. 0.15mm was stated in the item description; 0.0053" = 0.13462mm so 0.15mm is accurate. 0.15mm = 35AWG (35ga = 0.1426mm and 34ga = 0.1601mm) so 0.15mm is accurate. 0.0053" = 0.13462mm 0.0053" is halfway between 35 and 36AWG (35ga = 0.0050" and 36ga = 0.0056"), so 35AWG is accurate. Each Male and Female side has 10.25" of wire (not including the 5.5x2.1 connector). When both are connected together the total length is 23" (584mm); the tinned ends are 0.125" (1/8" or 3mm) long. ... show more

Very good quality with tight fit and good stranded copper tails. The tails are red/black, so, if your application will be leave the tails visible you may (or not) want to slip a black plastic conduit or black shrink tubing over them to keep them from looking like a science project.

Wire is pure copper and is 1mm diam so it is18 GA, as claimed. Plugs fit tight. Did a looped pair, shorting one end and power on the other end and put 10.2A DC for 10 minutes, which is twice the claimed current and it passed with a little heat on the wires and connectors but no burning, damage, no overheat smell and held it's current throughout.
