Description

We offer raw green unroasted coffee beans for the home roaster who enjoys roasting their own coffee beans at home. Unroasted coffee beans must be roasted prior to use for brewing. Roasting coffee can be a very simple process, or it can be a real work of art created by an experienced artisan. The roasting process has always been a mysterious kind of thing considered to be a closely guarded process of proprietary roasting profiles kept only for the privileged artisans “in the know” with sophisticated commercial roasting equipment. In recent years this has changed substantially with the new wave of home coffee roasters trying their hand at the roasting craft. They have learned many of the tricks of time and temperature modulating their own flavor profiles creating their own works of art in the cup. Coffee is a universal drink loved by many people, some for-taste others seeking the caffeine but when you roast it at home it takes on a whole new appeal. Your coffee quest becomes an intensely personal adventure where you are in control of many aspects of taste results. Roasting is truly a rewarding experience where the more experience you get the better your coffee tastes. Basically, you heat the beans to around 400F to 450F in about 10-15 minutes time period. Once the beans reach your desired doneness or “brown” simply remove them from the heat and cool to room temperature as quickly as possible. After this you can use them to brew coffee! When you buy our beans, you can rest assured that you are getting fresh current crop beans from some of the best coffee plantations in the world. We believe that the best taste comes from premium high-altitude growing regions. We source our beans with great care, ensuring that the farmers are paid fairly for their time and product. When you buy our beans, you are supporting the communities in which beans were grown ensuring equity for all. Invest in our premium high-quality beans, taking your roasting experience to the next level!

  • Flavorful and rich
Flavor Name: Smooth, Fruity, Blackberry Finish Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)
For SA means, my go-to is Supremo but I wanted to try something different. These beans have great flavor (charged at 190C, dropped and cooled at 210C over ~19 minutes) but also have quite a bit of residual silverskin in the middle fold. It's fine though and I don't believe it affects the flavor, just an observation. I would totally buy this again! ... show more

New at this roasting my own … expert I am not. Whether it’s a good roasting bean or not… I don’t know. But the way I roast it between Medium and espresso it tastes good to me. Company is good and prompt getting supplies /orders out even during Christmas season. I will by this brand again. I decided to go with 12 lb bags ... show more

  • beginners luck?
Flavor Name: Smooth, Fruity, Blackberry Finish Size: 2-Pound Excelso
I just wanted some inexpensive green coffee beans to play with. I had never "roasted" coffee before and this was a grand experiment. I fried them in an old iron frying pan. Just enough to cover the bottom of the pan pre-heated to medium. 3 minutes covered and stir. 3 more covered and stir again... light brown by now. 3 more covered and stir. Then I stand there and watch because things start to happen quick. Stir, cover, and listen... they pop! Once it has popped for awhile and turned a nice dark brown cool them off and make coffee. Excellent results even with my caveman style of roasting. Better than any brand name "regular" coffee. Make sure you can have a couple windows open as there is some smoke... smells strongly of coffee. I poured the roasted beans from one container to another out on my back deck and let the chaff blow away in the wind. Worked well enough that I ordered a variety of green beans. Money well spent... fun roasting and good coffee to drink. Excellent product, well documented, excellent packaging, fresh smelling, and comes with basic instructions. If you are wondering and have an iron frying pan with cover give it a try... amaze your friends and spoil your family. ... show more

  • Steal of a Bargain
Flavor Name: Smooth, Fruity, Blackberry Finish Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)
I have yet to roast, but my goodness! It smells fantastic u roasted! Just like blackberries. The bean consistency is not really there. There are little sized beans and large beans in a given bag, but that is to be expected. Will do an update after roasting. They sent packaging along with the beans saying that you can save around 10% by purchasing them through Etsy or Village of Artisans. I will probably be doing that in the future. Also, you can get free samples from smokinbeans.com. Update- Roasted the beans and there seems to be a sour/acidic taste to the beans. There is definitely notes of blackberry as well some chocolatey hints as well. Definitely more of a light to medium roast sort of coffee. Overall, is a good deal and worth a shot at making more roasts with. ... show more

  • the bean expands nicely and the husk comes off and flakes away nicely
Flavor Name: Smooth, Fruity, Blackberry Finish Size: 12.5 Pound (Pack of 1)
We have gone through a little over 40lbs of this so far. We roast a breakfast blend, medium roast, and dark roast with them so far. The dark roast is extra smokey at the second crack, but the flavor is what you expect of a dark roast as well. When roasting it first gives a wet-grass kind of smell when it goes from green to yellowish and the moisture starts to exit some. The first crack to a light medium, the bean expands nicely and the husk comes off and flakes away nicely. In the second crack the bean expands again and darkens dramatically. I mostly use Brazilian and Colombian beans so far. I just know them and roast them more than other regions, but getting to know your been profile takes time and practice. There are tips and tricks for any hobby, craft, or business. These are very good green coffee beans and the shipping, order fulfillment, has always been top notch from this company to us so far. ... show more
