  • Quiet, easy installation
Set name: 12,000 BTU Upgraded
For a single wide mobile home, this was the perfect fit in the window of the main living room. This one unit keeps temps cool and comfortable even while cooking. Also, very quiet.

  • Over the ledge helps keep the compressor noise outside.
I received this unit a couple weeks ago and I had been hoping the weather would stop being completely frigid so that I could set this air conditioner into the window and demonstrate it. I decided to just unpack it and test it so that I could write the review, but not completely install it since I'm still using heat in my part of the country. The unit comes in an outer box with strapping on the internal packing. Get a friend to help you pull the box off. The unit is heavy, but the delivery man hauled it up to my porch by hand by himself and I'm able to lift it by myself - and hauled it up to the 3rd floor once it was out of the package by myself. It's bulky. You'll be more comfortable with a helper. The unit has spacers that support the whole thing so you don't bend the window sill. Then outside there are two knobs which you'll turn to push against the house on the outside to level it. I've set the unit on a console table so that you can see the knobs you'll need to adjust. Make sure they're fully retracted before you try to put the unit in the window. You'll probably need the clearance space. I'm was a little concerned about that piece because I thought the window was going to be tight around the unit and it's on a 3rd floor window. You should consider that requirement in your plans. They include a spirit level so you can level side to side and front to back. When the unit is running it will collect moisture inside the part inside the house. On the lower left front there is a drain plug to drain it every so often. The unit is, of course, ETL listed and it can be looked up on Intertek's site. It's also energy star rated and while there is a sticker on the outside box, there's another included with the manual. The manual itself is mostly safety warnings, but it does inform on some of the error messages you might encounter. The front of the unit opens up and the air particle screens are a type that fold underneath the unit. I've pulled one of the two forward so you can see what I mean. It has a sleep function, which helps keep it quiet since the compressor part is outside the window and segmented. I found the whole unit to be very quiet for an air conditioner. The fact the compressor is outside does make a difference so that you mostly hear the fan. I always found the window units were quieter than the floor models anyhow. Testing the cooling worked well. It got very cold very quickly. This seems like it is going to work really well for the room I'm putting it in. ... show more

  • I really like this unit. Compared to most, its fairly silent and cools fast.
I went into this skeptical. U-shaped window ACs sound clever on paper, but clever designs often mean complicated installs and mediocre real-world performance. After living with this unit, here's the unvarnished truth. The U-shaped saddle design isn't a gimmick, it's a genuine engineering improvement over traditional box units. The window closes down around the middle of the unit, which does three things at once: it seals air leakage, dramatically reduces noise bleed from the compressor (which stays outside), and perhaps most surprisingly leaves your view and natural light largely intact. If you've ever lived with a traditional window AC that turned your room into a cave, this alone is worth the price of admission. The built-in dehumidifier mode is a genuine bonus, not an afterthought, it pulls moisture effectively, which matters as much as temperature in humid climates. Three fan speeds, Cool/Dry/Fan modes, and a functional remote round out a solid feature set. Advertised at around 45 decibels. it's roughly library-ambient background hum. What it isn't is the rattling, glass-shaking roar of older box units. Realistic expectation: pleasant white noise, however not whisper silent. The unit is heavy, and the U-shape means one person needs to be inside and one outside to lower it onto the sill safely. The included kit (support bracket, foam sealing blocks, weather stripping) is comprehensive and well-thought-out. The weather stripping trimming is the most tedious part of the process. Budget about an hour. Measure your window opening *before* ordering; this unit has specific dimensional requirements the saddle design demands. One Caveat Worth Noting: The support bracket clamps apply concentrated pressure against the window frame. Bottom Line, This is what window AC units should have been all along. The U-shaped design solves real problems; noise, light blockage, air sealing, that traditional designs have accepted as unavoidable trade-offs for decades. It cools fast, runs quiet enough for sleeping, and installs without requiring a contractor. The weight means you need a helper, and you need to measure your window first. Neither of those is a dealbreaker. If you're cooling a bedroom or medium-sized living space without central air, this is a genuinely strong choice. ... show more
