  • Very nice 7X50 binocular
The title for the listing of this indicates that it is 10X50. The binocular that I received was actually 7X50. I believe this was more of a misprint than a misrepresentation because further on down in the listing it list the objective as being 50mm and the magnification as 7X. With that being said, I have owned or used a lot of binoculars in my life. I have found as a rule that the name brand binoculars have the most consistent quality. I am usually wary of the off brand optics. This Bostron brand seems to be an exception. I have experiance with at least a half dozen of their binoculars and spotting scopes, and all of them have proven to be quite exceptional. This binocular may not be quite as good as the higher end name brands, but it is also nowhere near as expensive. I can find nothing to complain about this optic. The glass is very clear for this price point and looks pretty good all the way out to the edges. As I pointed out before, this binocular has a power of 7X with a 50mm objective lens so it has a wide field of view and collects light really well. This particular model is well built with a black body and the appearance of a standard, full size binocular. The right eyepiece has a diopter adjustment so that I can adjust for my own eyes and don't have to wear my glasses. The focus knob is very smooth and easy to use. It includes lens caps and a carrying case. Like most binoculars, this has a hinge in the center so that you can adjust it for the distance between your own eyes. On the front of that hinge there is a removeable cap which exposes a tripod mount in case you want to use a tripod (which is not included). If you are looking for a nice entry level binocular then I can recommend that you give this one a try. My philosophy is that, for a rating system to be effective, the highest rating and the lowest rating should be reserved for a relatively small percentage of the best and the worst products. I DON'T take into consideration prices or issues with shipping. I stick to a fair and honest evaluation of the product itself. Following is each of the five categories of *stars* and how I assign them to a product: ***** Five stars - Exceeded my expectations. I really love it! **** Four stars - Met my expectations. I like it and recommend it. *** Three stars - Average- some pros but some notable cons. ** Two stars - Disappointed- few pros and too many cons. * One star - Terrible! Stay away from it! I don't often give five stars for something unless I really love it, and I rarely give one star. Hopefully this helps you to understand why I gave my star rating to this product. Thanks for reading my review! I hope it has helped you. ... show more

  • Misleading product descriptions
These Porro binoculars are some of the cheaper offerings by Bostron, and are not 10x50 magnification as advertised, but are instead 7x50 as noted on the box identification label. The Positives: 1. The optical image is pretty sharp for these inexpensive binoculars. 2. The focus mechanism is pretty smooth and easy to operate. 3. The eyepiece lens light shading ring can be completely rolled down to accommodate those who wear eyeglasses. 4. It does have a nice durable and comfortable non-slip grip. The Negatives: 1. Contrary to how the product page describes these binoculars, they are definitely not 'pocket sized' nor compact and lightweight. 2. When I first got these binoculars one of the eyepiece lenses was screwed on cock eyed so I had to remove the eyepiece then screw it back on correctly. 3. The case it came with was junk and the thin unpadded 'neck strap' totally useless. 4. I would be very surprised if this is waterproof and/or fog-proof. The manufacturer does not attempt to give it any IPX rating. 5. One cannot get a sharp focus on any image that is closer than 65 feet. The only reason I am giving this product a 3 star is because of the sharp images one gets through the objective and eyepiece lens. The asking price is $38, but I am sure one can find a much better all around pair of binoculars for 10 to 20 dollars more. The Negatives: ... show more
