Replaced one that was the attach to the table type and I fought it constantly. LED's are the way to go. This lamp has selectable brightness and it's a good buy for the price. The LED's should far outlast the fluorescent tubes.

I recommend this Krstlv 10 X magnifier. The choice of lighting along with the stand and flexible arm make this a very vesatile unit. My wife and I are in our mid 70's and find this magnifier very useful for any number of tasks which require close inspection. My wife uses the magnifier for threading sewing needles and I have used it for arts and craft projects.

Sturdy, solid little lamp. Love that it has a dimmer, and nice that you can adjust the color temperature. The base is a wide, but flat, metal plate with felt on the underside to protect your table top. It anchors the unit well. The lens is wide too. Some might wish for a longer gooseneck. This one is about a foot long. With the lens parallel to the desktop there's about 10 inches clearance with the focal plane about halfway between. This should work for my needs. And it makes a nice, minimalist desk lamp. Pleased so far.

The neck is stiff and only wants to lean one way, and that way is off center. It's a good light, and magnifying glass, but the neck is too short and stiff to be really effective.
