    • They work after my "Learning Curve".
These were installed on a 1996 EZGO TXT.. Before attempting the install, I tried to slid these NEW assemblies into the original drums ,that had already been removed. They seemed to be too large, until I closed the shoes completely with the Star wheel and the shoes then simultaneously pushed toward the center by hand, to be sure they were as closed as possible. Once the assembly was installed on the golf car, the shoes needed to be lightly tapped and their position on the Backing plate shifted for perfect alignment as the drum was slidden onto the splined shaft. Once done, the drum could be slidden on and off easily. NOTE: This assembly is slightly different from the original ones. The original type is shown on the same Amazon listing page as this one. and it is les $$ than this one. I just had to try something different.🙄 It seem that the starwheel turns opposite on this one, vs the original style. Rolling Up closes the shoes, and down expands them. I found it necessary to remove the drum each time to make the adjustments. Removing the old assemblies was made difficult by 2 factors. 1. It is secured by 4 bolts which are easy to get to. BUT ! The bolts are screwed into nuts. Some of the nuts are very difficult to get to even with an open end wrench, as a box end won't get in the tight spaces. And more difficult to reinstall the nuts because It has to be done by feel. 2. Breaking them loose after being installed for 28 years by a gorilla, was a real treat. Complete Removal of those bolts will fight to the last few threads. They are fine thread and the nuts are tapered. I found it easier to use a impact driver to break them loose using a common 1/2" socket and 2" common extention. The impact socket and extension were too thick, due to the shoes being in the way. Once broken loose the cordless drill worked well. A ratchet wrench did not work due to the needed extention and having to hold the nut in a space that allowed very little movement to that wrench. In the photo with the red arrow you'll see a brake assembly that wasn't purchased from Seller 10LOL. These brakes would not maintain their adjustment and clunked when the brakes were applied as the metal arm that's needed to stop the geared pawl wasn't connecting. Slips right over the gear. And, the gear is a pretty rough stamping. I tried to bend the arm down some to catch the gear - but nothing worked. The stamping is just not good. Finally, I paid a few bucks more and purchased the set in the second photo (with the darker bronze colored shoes) from Amazon supplier 10LOL. The 10LOL brakes work great and are silent. ... show more
