this thing works good, but its to dangerous to use in your kitchen, I thought I could use it to keep dish water hot through out the day, to wash dishes, but now it gets over hot, the cord gets over heated, it could catch something on fire.

I purchased it to boil water in my utility sink, and it worked great! But it got knocked off its stand and ended up resting against the plastic tub, fully submerged. It kept working, didn't short out, and managed to burn a hole right through the tub. And it kept going! I'm replacing it because it can't possibly be safe anymore; but this little coil has proven its worth. It doesn't have temperature control; it just has On and Off. I'm pretty sure that it's the owner's job to make sure that it's not burning holes in their stuff. For a generic tool, this is one of the best buys and well-made items on Amazon.

This immersion water heater stated it has an On/Off switch. Mine did not come with any switch. I'm returning it.

This product works well, but it should handled with a lot of care. Otherwise it could lead to risky accidents. Instructions are very basic, but they should be read and followed. I used it to heat water in a bucket to wash my dog on the yard. The water heated in fairly short time. It was good, but I would recommend only to those who are careful and attentive to written instructions.

For those that say it is dangerous and Yada Yada yada.... there is a certain level of darwinism beauty here. 1. Yes it gets hot (um it is why we bought it)... 2. It is great at heating a thermos of water quickly for coffee... for ramen... for anything you need hot water for. Especially on deployments around the world with the military. 3. It also can melt things (see #1). 4. You have to watch it while using (also see #1). 5. If you hurt yourself or damage things... that is Charlie telling you to pay attention... (see #1) Make good choices everyone.

Cons: not grounded- two prong plug. No built in timer or off switch. Plugging it into the wall, is on. Trips GFI in bathroom often. Pros. In 30 minutes, you can get a 5 gallon bucket very warm. You need to stir it every 10 minutes, or only the top 5-6" get hot. Make sure you have water right up to the black power box. That seems to be the hottest part. Bought because my hot water heater went out. Using with a camping shower until I can get fixed. Work very well. Just set a timer at 10 minute intervals. Don't see an increase to my electric bill. Seems very power efficient
