I live in the Southeast where for whatever reason they don't build pipes to withstand cold weather as they do up north. Every time we get a freeze everyone recommends wrapping pipes. I don't know that it would really make a huge difference...until it does, so I wrapped the pipes every time. I wanted to do a good job, so I'd use pipe wrapped and fiberglass taped up nicely.... VERY time consuming each time to get on and off and a mess. I found a few features like these, and they cover better and can be secured in seconds with zip ties. The outcome looks better and probably insulates better with much less time spent. So an easy to use quick alternative with great durability. I can't ask for more... and my pipes so far are fine :)

No wrestling matches with straps or Velcro that feels like it was designed by kryptonite engineers, I just wrapped it on, cinched the Velcro seal at the bottom, and boom done. Arrived very compressed and seemed more like a sheet of foil attached to some fabric. I let it sit out overnight, and it expanded so that it at least appears to have some insulation properties. The velcro fasteners are very strong and the fact it opens on two sides makes it a snap to slip over the backflow preventer. No idea if it really helps, but we made it through the latest south Texas freeze ok.
