This is a Yanmar L100 clone, that puts down 8.7HP in-fact (actual model is 186FA), at 3600 RPM. This engine can be electrified with parts/kits found on ebay, making it a very useful and easy to use piece of machinery. I purchased this unit for a purpose-built off-grid backup generator, tied to a 5kW/220V alternator. Surprisingly, unlike the smaller diesel engines you find from China, this unit requires no pre-priming or bleeding of the system. Once attached to the battery and the start is activated, a few cranks (without messing with the decompression valve) and the engine started up. Initial break-in was pretty smokey and the engine *IS* loud. However, after a few moments the smoke cleared up and the engine began to ran smoothly. As there is no catalytic converter, it is likely best to use a high zinc (zddp) break-in oil to give it the longest/best life possible. Additional useful information: Parts are available under the 186FA search term (Amazon has a complete parts kit for servicing). General power specs: RPM kW / HP 1500 3.0 / 4.0 2000 4.0 / 5.4 2500 5.0 / 6.7 3000 5.9 / 7.9 3600 6.5 / 8.7 Shaft is 1", with a 5mm keyway (1/4" won't work). Overall, compared to what you could get from Harbor Freight (gas only), this is a good value.

This is a great engine. Arrived without any damage. Added oil and fuel, bleed the fuel system, and starts on first pull every time. Runs and sounds great. I would definitely buy another.

I use these engines for off grid battery changing with a bidirectional alternator .They hold up better than any other engine I've tried.

I ordered this engine to replace a Yanmar L100. After over 80hrs of use it has far exceeded my expectations. It starts right up and runs just as good as the Yanmar. Noise level is comparable to the Yanmar along with power output and it has comparable build quality.

This is a stout engine I replaced a 16 hp b&s with this on a little garden tractor I can’t even tell a difference in power it’ll pull the cultivar through my sweet corn and the rest of my garden like I was just out joy riding
