  • Nice and tight, easy to use
I read a lot of reviews on this tool holder before I bought it. Everybody talking about it being loose and sloppy. That was not the case with mine. Apparently I got a nice one. It is very clean machined Well, fits tight does an excellent job. Made my little HF lathe a dream to use as compared to before. ... show more

  • Tool holder gripes.
What’s Purchased the tool holder to go on my mini lathe which is a 7 x 14. Works well. not all tool holders included with this product are really usable right off from the start partially my fault because I ordered a half inch tool set and a half inch cut off tool. The tool holder in the set will only except a 3/8 boring bar so will have to order that separate because my half inch will not fit into that although I can use it in one of the other holders. The cut off tool is at the wrong angle it appears for some reason. ... show more

  • No instructions, but got it on
Updating my previous post, there were no instructions so I was trying to figure out how to mount it. Eventually I figured it out and was able to mount it, set the height, and give them a try. It stays locked down and doesn't turn and there's less chatter than the original. So, I've upgraded to 4 stars but I can't give 5 for the frustration with no instructions to tell a novice how to put the tool on the machine. ... show more

  • An excellent upgrade I can’t live without
This tool changer is amazing. It’s high quality, precise, and quite rigid. After having used this, I can’t live without it. The tool post makes it quick and easy to swap between tools in a precise way. I highly recommend it as it saves time swapping tools and allows you to spend more time machining.

  • Good stuff
Very pleasantly surprised. I had bought that aluminum toolpost (you all know the one if you're looking at this product) and it worked okay, but I noticed a lot of flex when cutting even... aluminum. I figured it was my saddle gibs not being tight enough, but after tuning up the lathe, I realized it could only really be the toolpost. I even tried tightening all of the gibs. Since I got this toolpost that you're now on the product page of, I've tried heavy cuts in aluminum with a damn near mirror finish. I can even take on steel reliably now! I'm mostly limited by the stall torque of my lathe, not the rigidity, at this point. I'm very impressed. And this is a standard size, so you don't need to buy the whole damn set if you need another toolholder. Just go on Littlemachineshop.com and find the one you need. EDIT: I have since determined that the cutoff tool holder in this set is not suitable for 7" swing lathes like the Harbor Freight mini lathe. However, LittleMachineShop sells one that holds the tool level rather than angled upward. Still an extremely good set for a good price here though. ... show more

  • I guess I need to chalk-up the first two failures to tuition.
Tuition for learning my lesson to always choose to "Buy American Made", the first two Chinese imports, were, most likely machined by a tender aged child, in a hurry to meet the hourly 'piece work' count. The 3rd submission was 'American made' to tolerance, fit together well, and most importantly locked-up 'tight-as-a-tick' as it should. ... show more

  • Vast improvement over the cheap alunimum piston style
If you are on the fence between this and the cheap alunimum ones get wedge style. If you have the alunimum one and are wondering weather it's worth the extra money it is. While you can do decent work with the cheaper ones they are not as ridgid, and you will still have to adjust your tool height every time you remove the holder from the post as they do not seem to index the holder in the same place every time. With this style it pulls the holder back into the post and registers on the dovetails as well as the face of the toolpost. Giving it a lot more contact area and providing substantial rigidity. ... show more
