0XA size, fits on my mini-lathe perfectly. So very pleased with the performance of the steel tool holders compared to the aluminum ones. No chatter - very solid mounting. Using various tools with these holders is a dream. Easy to position and gets the cut right where you want it. This is so much better than the OEM tool holder that came with my mini-lathe.     • Fits My 1932 Atlas 9"
Works great and is much more rigid than my cheepo piston style. I originally bought AXA but that interfered with my compound as it's not flat all across. My only complaint is the bore bar sleeve is 3/8" and the tools Amazon recommends the bore bar and internal thread bar is 10 mm or .394 so won't fit the sleeve. A new sleeve must be made for good fitment. ... show more

Most definitely a step up from the tool post that came with my HF mini lathe. I am now able to use a much wider variety of bits. I really liked that it came with a gnarling wheel attachment, that been very fun to use. The only problem I have with this set is that if you have a very small lathe the 4˚ incline on the cutoff tool holder makes it impossible to get the blade to intersect the work properly.     • QCTP is an absolute must for any lathe
Makes vertical alignment a breeze!!! I've only had my lathe for a few months but it quickly became clear that even a small mini-lathe needs a QCTP. This one is very affordable and certainly works fine and seems to be a very good value. Smoothe operation/movement.

Very pleasantly surprised. I had bought that aluminum toolpost (you all know the one if you're looking at this product) and it worked okay, but I noticed a lot of flex when cutting even... aluminum. I figured it was my saddle gibs not being tight enough, but after tuning up the lathe, I realized it could only really be the toolpost. I even tried tightening all of the gibs. Since I got this toolpost that you're now on the product page of, I've tried heavy cuts in aluminum with a damn near mirror finish. I can even take on steel reliably now! I'm mostly limited by the stall torque of my lathe, not the rigidity, at this point. I'm very impressed. And this is a standard size, so you don't need to buy the whole damn set if you need another toolholder. Just go on Littlemachineshop.com and find the one you need. EDIT: I have since determined that the cutoff tool holder in this set is not suitable for 7" swing lathes like the Harbor Freight mini lathe. However, LittleMachineShop sells one that holds the tool level rather than angled upward. Still an extremely good set for a good price here though. ... show more

    • Truly worth it if you are looking for quality.
Like someone else mentioned, I also bought one of those aluminum kits and its not worth it. Too many issues with flex and the tools not being steady. I ended up purchasing this steel post kit and I really like it, I also bought some extra tool blocks since I have quite a few tools to setup. The tool blocks fit perfectly on the post, there is no gap and no play. Just insert and tighten and you are good to go. Dont even waste your time with the aluminum blocks, this one may be 4x the price, but you get what you pay for. This is truly worth the money, I still have more tool blocks to get. ... show more

I previously purchased a different style of quick change tool post and while it worked okay to start with, eventually it seemed to be trouble. This wedge style definately grips the tool holders better and makes them easier to remove. The included tool holders are also made of steel and slightly stouter than the aluminum holders that I had before. I had hoped that the aluminum tool holders would fit onto this tool post, but the cut was too narrow. I was able to fit that with a cutter on the mill so I was able to save and reuse those as extra tool holders. A nice upgreade on a mini-lathe. ... show more

    • Vast improvement over the cheap alunimum piston style
If you are on the fence between this and the cheap alunimum ones get wedge style. If you have the alunimum one and are wondering weather it's worth the extra money it is. While you can do decent work with the cheaper ones they are not as ridgid, and you will still have to adjust your tool height every time you remove the holder from the post as they do not seem to index the holder in the same place every time. With this style it pulls the holder back into the post and registers on the dovetails as well as the face of the toolpost. Giving it a lot more contact area and providing substantial rigidity. ... show more
