  • Great press
Press works excelent. Used a cheep 1/4 drive socket set to help press out and in bearings when I rebuilt my scroll saw

  • It works, but don't expect a high quality machine
Four stars because it's a reasonable value for the rather low price. Casting seems solid enough. No depth stop collar provided, if that matters. There are four adjusting screws, two to adjust forward-back play in the ram, and two for left-right play. The sideways pair have no gib plate provided, so I cut a slice of UHMWPE plastic for this purpose. Now with the four screws tightened up, I can grab the ram and shake it and and feel no give or rattle either sideways or front-back, but (having applied SAE 30 oil) the lever still moves it more-or-less smoothly up and down, so that much is good. I should be able to mount a small die punch on the ram directly, without needing external alignment fixturing. The spline gear teeth on the rotating shaft appear very rough-cut, and the tolerance of that mating with the rack gear on the ram is incredibly loose IMO but maybe it's typical for this kind of crude machine. The plain-bearing hole in the cast frame that the splined shaft goes through to the lever handle is almost 1 mm oversized. I wrapped several layers of silicone tape around the shaft there to reduce the slop, although that may not really matter much to operation. There is a super-weak magnet in the hole in the end of the ram, to hold a drift tool, but it's barely enough to counter gravity and the tool is easily dislodged. The knob to hold the operating lever arm position cannot be tightened enough to really hold it- maybe could cut a groove in the arm to retain that screw. All in all, this arbor press can be made to work. Just don't expect close fits, or really any sign of craftsmanship at all. ... show more

  • Nice quality & great price.
I had been looking at 1 ton Arbor presses for 6 months or more. I thought a hand wheel would be a nice convenience. I was finding prices in the $80-100 range without the hand wheel. $140 & up with a hand wheel. Found this one on Amazon For $55 & free shipping. Came very well packed, it was clean & easy to assemble. For my first project, I bought a set of round hollow dies to punch out iron on patches. It worked like a champ. Now that I have it, I know I’ll find many more uses for punching & stamping for leather, metals, & many more crafts. Very pleased with the purchase. ... show more

  • Not 1 ton pressure.
I gave this a 3 star rating because I do not think you actually get 1 ton of setting pressure on snaps, buckle snaps etc. It has good features other don't. It is heavy, but you must press hard to get things as tight as they should be.

  • parts did not fit together
The wheel did not attach to the shaft. Parts were manufactured out of tolerance. Could not use

  • Hope I got a bad one
Sadly the one I got was not up to par even for a cheap press. I usually dont expect perfection and also expect to work on items to make them better. This one had to many issues. Holes not centered and some rough finishing. But the worst is that the gears or splines on the pinion as they call it seems like it was done by someone with a dull machine. So bad that if play is taken out of the ram the pinion jams. So for it to work I need to leave the ram loose. It will suffice for what I need but still, it's basically not worth buying. I would not buy again. Spend more money if any sort of decent operation is needed., ... show more
