ZWILLING and scales are a match made in heaven. The new digital kitchen scales with battery combine a pure, modern design with absolute precision. The rechargeable Li-ion battery is built into the white housing to do away with the need for buying new batteries. The electronic scales are simply recharged via USB cable. They are switched on and off via the sensor touch display and automatically turn off when not in use. The high-quality glass weighing surface is incredibly easy to clean. This allows you to weigh even meat and fruit directly on the surface. Plus, the large weighing surface means that the built-in LCD display always remains visible even when weighing large amounts. I can't imagine the mind that thought, "You know what would be handy? A kitchen scale that charges your phone!" But once you get your head around the concept, it is a pretty good idea. I mean, we all have our phones with us all the time. So when you are cooking and you finish measuring your ingredients or your portion or whatever you need to weigh, you can set your phone down and charge it while you make your food. OK, so it still sounds a little odd to me. My head isn't totally around the idea. But just as a kitchen scale, this is terrific. ZWILLING J.A. Henckels is an old German company. I have several Henckels knives that are excellent. This scale is manufactured in China, but the design and quality strike me as very German. It is heavy, sturdy, and sleek. It weighs things to a tenth of an ounce or tenth of a gram -- incredibly accurate. It is easy to charge and then does not need a cord or replaceable batteries. The most difficult thing for me was figuring out how to turn it on! The digital touch switch is on the front, not on the top, so I had to read the instruction manual to find it and figure it out. And I had to fiddle around with the touch controls until I could figure out how to zero out the weight and switch between ounces and grams. But all this took no more than five minutes and I was ready to go. I'm not a fancy baker, so don't usually weigh my ingredients like you are advised to do. But I use a scale for some things, like when making marmalade, and like to weigh portions when I'm trying to slim. I also like a scale to calculate postage. This goes up to 22 pounds/10 kilograms, so is handy for weighing letters and small packages. As for the charging feature, I'm still getting used to it. I put my phone on it and it flashed to let me know that my phone was charging. I need to get in the habit of setting my phone on it when I'm in the kitchen to make use of this feature. ... show more

This is a great addition to my kitchen countertop. Primary use is as a handy scale to measure ingredients and as a postage scale Secondary use is to charge my mobile phone (15-Watt wireless charging). Positives: 1. Elegant design: This is a good-looking scale 2. Functional: The scale measures in both Grams and Pounds and has Tare capability that allows for weighing several ingredients in a single bowl 3. Scale is calibrated and accurate out of the box 4. Bright, easy to read display 5. Glass top surface that makes it easy to clean 6. Functional weighing surface is 7X7 inches and will accommodate most bowls 7. Doubles as a power bank for wireless charging 8. Scale charging port is USB-C, which is quickly becoming the new standard for charging using a standard power block Negatives: 1.     • Nice scale, but instructions on charging could be better

Overall, this is a really nice scale. It is sleek and the built-in wireless charger makes it handy to keep the phone charged while viewing recipes. But here are my gripes. A foot is loose on the bottom. No way I can tell to tighten it. Makes the scale wobble just a tad. Actually, that's just a minor annoyance. The biggest complaint is the charger specification. The manual calls for a 12 VDC 2.5 A "powered by SELV". The manual also says that "a suitable detachable supply unit can be ordered on www.zwilling.com". Nope. No amount of searching or random poking around revealed anything resembling a charger, power supply, or unit. Just for grins, I even tried to search the German version of the Zwilling site with no luck. I couldn't connect "SELV" and "USB-C" in a search except in a few obscure references. My QC 2.0 charger seemed to work OK to charge the scale and charge my S23 on the scale. I tried a PD 3.0 charger and it did NOT work. It charged the scale but would not charge the phone on the scale. Wasted WAY too much time trying to figure out what charger I should get. ... show more
