  • NUTRITION SCALE THAT ACTUALLY WORKS!
Color: Stainless Steel Style: Basic Large Size Pattern Name: Scale
Like many people I'm overweight and have tried many "diets" to slim down. I'm now convinced calorie counting/portion control is the key to weight loss. This will be the 4th nutrition scale I've purchased and tried. The first one didn't work out of the box and was returned. The next one from Smart Chef actually worked well for 6 months then just quit. The scale still weighed food I just couldn't look up or transfer data. The weakness of any of these scales is the app that is used with them. I've got lots of experience with "smart" apps with Alexa connected to and operating everything possible in my home. What I've found is the more smart products a company powers the better their software team is at finding problems and restoring function after an issue with "the cloud". To get the necessary caloric values this app has to go through the cloud to a database for the info. The scale I purchased before this was a nice, accurate scale that had a network problem every time I opened the app. The sellers were nice folk that tried to be helpful but knew nothing about software and when communicating about the problem wasted my time asking stupid questions like I was an idiot. I have been using this for a week and although I had trouble at first logging data I fooled around with it until i learned how to use it. I should have taken a star off for lack of clear instructions but am so pleased it actually works as advertised. I did reach out for help at first and got an email contact form that said they'd get back to me in a few days. So not 5 star support, but they did open a case and asked for more info so there is some support if necessary. A through YouTube video would be very helpful. One of the most critical features is the ability to link with a fitness app to keep track of your progress. The two major players here are Apple Health and Fitbit. I bought and wore a Fitbit last fall just for the purpose of tracking everything, but was disappointed at how very little was automatically tallied and that I had to constantly sync to keep it up to date. I have been wearing a Samsung Galaxy watch for a few years and really like the Samsung Health app better than Fitbit or Google Fit. Unfortunately they are not a big enough player for many of these fitness trackers to link to. Enter the Health Sync app. For free or a tiny fee if you don't want any ads, the Health Sync app seamlessly moves data from Fitbit to Samsung Health, so all my fitness metrics are in one place. One of the things I like about the Etekcity scale and VeSync app is the flexibility to remove all the clutter for the home screen. The app is really trying to help folks with weight loss by suggesting different diets like keto or Mediterranean but all that can be turned off and removed. Another nice feature is so far everything I've looked up stays visible below the "look up food" window speeding up the discovery process. Another thing I like is I put a plate on the scale then zero it out with the tare button, let's say weigh a slice of protein bread, but then once that's recorded can zero out the scale again, put some sugar free raspberry jam on the toast and weigh get the additional calories logged. First weigh the salad, then with the dressing etc. The database is pretty extensive so far I've found something close to everything I've looked up. On the Keto diet spent years treating a potato or tortilla chip like poison. I just read a study that said regardless of diet choices calories are the key. This tool should help me eat what I want but in small enough portions to lose a pound a week until I reach my target. ... show more

  • Game-Changer for Macro Tracking!
Color: Stainless Steel Style: Smart Large Size Pattern Name: Scale
I recently acquired this incredible nutritional scale, and I must say, it has revolutionized the way I track my macros. As someone who used to rely on ChatGPT with a plugin for this task, I can confidently state that this scale takes convenience to a whole new level. The standout feature of this scale is its ability to calculate the nutritional value of foods accurately. Not only does it provide precise calculations, but it also grants me the ease of creating custom meals. This feature alone has saved me a significant amount of time. No more manual data entry or guesswork – I can effortlessly assemble my meals and know exactly what I'm consuming. What truly amazed me is the barcode scanning functionality. With a simple scan of a product's barcode, the nutritional information is swiftly and accurately added to the scale's database. This automation is a game-changer, especially for packaged items with barcodes readily available. It not only streamlines the tracking process but also boosts my confidence in the accuracy of the data I'm inputting. The user interface is intuitive and user-friendly, making it accessible even for those who might not be tech-savvy. The scale's sleek design also adds a touch of elegance to my kitchen counter. In a world where precision and efficiency matter greatly, this nutritional scale shines as a must-have tool for anyone mindful of their macros. It's a time-saver, a data-enricher, and a reliable partner in my health journey. Kudos to the creators for crafting such an exceptional device! ... show more

  • An unexpected gem
Color: Black Style: Basic Large Size Pattern Name: Scale
When I ordered this little kitchen scale, I had my misgivings. I thought it might be too small to balance large plates and bowls. It has turned out to be indispensable in my kitchen -- so lightweight that you can easily grab it and bring it to the front of the counter. It has a very large LED display which is easy to read even with a large plate on top, but most importantly, it is extremely sensitive. You can drop a smidgen of food onto the plate and see the reading change by a single decimal. You can reset the scale to continue to take individual readings of each ingredient as you add it to the dish, which is especially useful if you track your food's calories. I bought this for $10 on Amazon Day, but at $16 it is still a bargain. I'm glad my old, heavy scale that was designed to make it nearly impossible to clean conked out -- this one is sleek, with a single surface that easily wipes clean. ... show more

  • It’s Great! - 6 Month Review
Color: Stainless Steel Style: Basic Medium Size Pattern Name: Scale
We’ve used this food scale for about 6 months or so now, and it works really well. It’s very easy to use the display, it’s quick to operate and measures in many types of weight. The finish is well made and easy to clean. Ours looks as good as it did on day one after several uses. When baking or cooking it’s so simple to place your bowl or plate on the scale, turn it on, zero it out, choose the measurement type and that’s it. For the money it’s so much nicer than I expected. The only negative I would give this is that it’s smaller than I expected it to be. The surface is big enough for our cereal bowl but that’s about it. Anything bigger and you would not be able to read the display because it’s level with the measurement surface. ... show more

Color: Stainless Steel Style: Basic Medium Size Pattern Name: Scale
I bought this food scale in 2019 to help me regulate my food portions during meal prep. I had no idea what I was getting for the $13 I spent. Not only is this scale lightweight and super easy to use, but it is also super easy to store because it is so compact. It's stainless steel, so it's super durable and a breeze to wipe clean. The backlit LCD screen is really easy to read. This product absolutely exceeded my expectations! The thing that surprised me the most is that the scale is extremely useful when I'm using a recipe that gives ingredients in grams because the scale can easily be changed from oz to grams to fluid ounces to pounds with the tap of a button! As for the value for the money, this device shows no signs of wear after 4 moves, 5 years later. I've changed the batteries one time, so cost over time is very low. This scale is a must have in any kitchen! The product listing is very accurate, and it does everything advertised. ... show more

  • Great Product! Even Better Customer Support Team
Color: Stainless Steel Style: Basic Medium Size Pattern Name: Scale
I love that my Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale is a great tool in my kitchen to help me measure food to ensure that I track what I’m putting into my body, my husband's and my children’s bodies each and every day, all day! It helps me measure food and ensure the quality control on everything. This food scale is my constant companion. I don’t eat without it. Now, don’t get me wrong. I didn't always use a food scale to measure my food intake. In fact, for years when I heard people talk about using a food scale, and measuring their food intake it was always dieters, and one thing I never went on was a diet. At least not in the sense I understood they meant to use the word, "diet"! The thought of depriving my body from food was foreign to me. In fact, growing up with a limited food supply meant that once I was old enough to get a job, I exiled food shortage from my life. However, overeating because food became plentiful in adulthood with a job eventually became a problem. Especially after pregnancy and becoming a mother. An experience worth losing a few vanity points over for sure! However, with weight gain vanity concerns pale in comparison to health concerns. You see, I needed to know for sure that I was eating what my body needed, and that I was feeding my husband and children what their bodies needed. And, if I began to tip over to overeating, I wanted it to be a conscious choice! And for my husband and children, I wanted to help them learn when to recognize that they were tipping over the point of eating the recommended daily calories from each food group so that I and so that they had awareness of when they had enough to do the job of sustaining a thriving body so we could experience the whole life change we were after as a family. This Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale plays a big part of helping us do that. All day, every day. It makes it easy. It takes just a second to put the food on it and measure the serving size. And I get to choose the units (ounces, grams, etc.). Now, I don't know about you, but I LOVE observing how people who work for companies in a support capacity do their jobs. And when I come across a person or staff that wows me, I stop and take notice! I also stop and take notice when I come across staff that has the opposite effect on me. And my follow through is just as thorough then as this review is now. The Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale support team wowed me! Immediately they responded to my inquiry when my scale, which I had for a long time, stopped working one day. Like I told you, this thing works hard all day every day measuring food for a family of four. Well, their support team instructed me on how to troubleshoot what was the cause of the problem, offered to send me a new scale, which arrived quickly, AND the piece de resistance. Several weeks later, they reached out to me to ask me how the new scale was working. Talk about a customer support team! Now that's the kind of service I want all day every day! So, if you're considering buying a food scale for yourself and/or your family, I highly recommend the Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale. Not just because it's an amazing digital piece of machinery, but because the company has people, actual human beings who work there that care about the service they provide customers and it shows in the CRM (customer relationship management) system they very likely automated utilizing the beauty of digital technology to do it, but they also kept the human element present with their service, which gives them an extra edge. This is my third Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale! It's a machine. It isn't meant to last forever. All machines eventually stop working. There's an expected life for every machine. And when this machine serves me till it can't anymore, like the last 2 did, I'll gratefully whisper a thank you for your service to the people who made it and gladly buy another one. Year after year. Etekcity and their customer team now have a "raving fan", as one of my favorite teachers and mentors calls it! When you get yours, let me know if you become a raving fan of the Etekcity Digital Kitchen Scale too. ... show more

Color: Stainless Steel Style: Basic Medium Size Pattern Name: Scale
I bought this in 2017 and it has lasted just over 6 years. I guess I'd have to say that keeping it clean is important, as I think the only reason it's not working great anymore is that it's gotten gummed up and dirty under the buttons. That is a slight design flaw. If i had kept is cleaner, or the buttons were made so that junk couldn't get underneath, it would still be working fine. It's just really hard to turn it on now. Once it's on it works great. The one feature I'd like is if it included fractions of grams. • Great scale, wish it was built a little heavier
Color: Stainless Steel Style: Basic Medium Size Pattern Name: Scale
This scale does everything it says. The LED screen is very bright which is super nice for dimly lit or poorly lit kitchens. I really have found the unit modes useful. For example, there's no need for liquid measuring cups when you have a scale like this. Just simply switch the scale to mL, zero out the scale with your cup of coffee or whatever drink you're adding something to, and pour in the liquid. It measures it accurately and saves time and energy when you're cutting weight and tracking calories meticulously. After using this scale it's going to be hard for me to use anything without the mL units. Of course having Ounces is standard, but what really helped out was easily switching from grams to mL. Game changer for sure! The only thing I would recommend for this scale down the line is a better build quality. It's all plastic but looks like it's a heavier aluminum or similar. It would be super nice to see this scale be built with some better materials other than plastic as it's lightwight and you have to treat it somewhat dilligently but overall it's still built very well. Just my two cents. ... show more

  • Worthwhile Purchase But Needs Enhancements to Reach Full Potential
Color: Stainless Steel Style: Smart Large Size Pattern Name: Scale
I bought this scale in order to get better control of tracking nutritional information, specifically carbohydrates. The product was packaged well in environmentally friendly cardboard specifically designed to protect the product without producing excessive waste. The scale is slim, sleek and shiny. The display on the scale is backlight and a bit difficult to read; it could use brighter backlighting or LEDs. The controls are minimal: on/off/tare and switching between measurement units. The iOS app: There are several apps from the company in the App Store, so it is important to use the QR Code in the package to find the correct app OR visually match the app icon with those in the store. Once installed, the app quickly finds and attaches to the scale via Bluetooth. The app requires the user to create an account for storing entries. The app can be installed on multiple devices and each device can use a single account or separate accounts. When multiple devices are linked to a single account, entries that are tracked sync between devices via the Internet. Sadly, the iOS app is not a universal app. Although it runs on the iPad (which is a device many will use in their kitchen), it just appears in iPhone format. It does not support landscape mode, and it does not support rotation. This is a problem when using an iPad, because most ipad stands work best in landscape mode; and in portrait mode, to keep the iPad plugged in, the bottom of the iPad needs to be placed at the top. The app supports the standard USDA database of foods and seems to include some product entries. Although barcode scanning is supported, so far I haven't scanned a code which returned info on the product; I imagine the database will be populated over time. When a product isn't in the database, the user can add the food and its serving size and nutrition. Once added, the app will return accurate nutritional information for any size serving of the food. To track a food, the user locates the food in the database, optionally places a container on the scale and uses the tare feature to zero out the weight of the container, adds the food, optionally selects the meal, touches a "checkmark," then finally touches a "checkmark" to track the food. It is important to remember to click the "checkmarks" or the food serving doesn't get tracked! It is possible to track a food without the scale, but it is not an intuitive procedure. The user must select the (disconnected) scale, searches for the food, touches an arrow on the display to override the weight, enters the grams, then touches the "checkmark" to track the food. The app totals the day's nutritional consumption on a dashboard in the diary, but does not show nutritional totals for each meal; if meal totals are needed, the user must view the detail of each food and add the desired nutrient total in their head. There doesn't appear to be a way to choose which nutrient totals are displayed on the dashboard; but details of all tracked nutrients are available on a separate screen. A feature that, to me, is obviously missing is the ability to use the scale and app to calculate the nutrition for recipes. It seems like a pretty easy feature to add to the app: create a recipe entry, weight and add all fo the ingredients, specify a recipe title, specify the number of servings, and show the nutritional totals for the recipe and per serving. I really hope to see that feature added in the future. Another missing feature is the ability to export the diary. There is no apparent way to access a web site with the tracked data, and there should be at least an option to export and mail the diary as a tab-delimited or csv text file, or copy it in tab-delimted format to the iPhoone/iPad clipboard. Overall impression: This is a worthwhile device, a great hardware/software combination. What it does, it does well. But the software seems to be in its infancy, and the company has a great opportunity to greatly enhance the software to make it much more useful in the kitchen. Here are enhancements that need to be made to the iOS app: * Make the app universal with true support for iPads, and on the iPad use the larger screen to advantage. * Make the nutrients displayed on the diary's "today" dashboard customizable to those nutrients the user needs to track. * Add customizable dashboard totals by meal so users don't have to mentally add them up manually. * Add the ability to create, save, calculate, and track recipes. * Make tracking foods manually a less cryptic procedure. * Add diary export capability. * Make diary accessible via account log-in to a web site. Would I recommend this product: Yes. If you have a need or desire to track your food intake more precisely, this device will do that for you. What it does, it does well. It is relatively easy to learn and start using, and easily fits into the preparation and serving of a meal. I am hopeful that the apps will be enhanced to add features to make the produce easier to use and even more valuable. The company has a golden opportunity here to set the gold standard for connected food scales and become the major player in the field. ... show more
